Gonzales who had a poor outing in the season
opener though the Mariners came back to win
didn't have a good one either in this one. The
Mariners lost this game 10-2.
The game did have a rain delay early on. It
would have been nice had the rain continued
so there would have been a cancellation. There
is no game on Friday so the game good have
been played.
Marco for the second game in a row didn't
pitch well. This game was worse than the
opener in Seattle. Marco pitched four and
one-third innings, giving up nine hits, seven
runs, two walks while striking out six batters
and giving up two home runs.
Two things that irked me about Gonzales is
the Mariners scored first with a run in the
top of the third inning then the Twins came
up with four runs in the bottom of the third.
Marco is a competitive pitcher but the job
should be to not allow any runs especially
when your team scores first. Three of the
four runs came on a three-run homer.
This is the other thing that irks me is
how many home runs the Mariners give up.
Lack of controlling the zone far as pitching
goes.
News came out before the start of the game
James Paxton likely will be having Tommy
John surgery. He will be lost for the season.
Paxton has been hurt almost every season
since he came up to the major leagues. We
wonder if he will call it a career. A talented
pitcher who can't stop getting hurt.
Ty France continues to hit well having two
more hits with an average of .346. He looks
to be the Mariners top hitter over the course
of the season. Mitch Haniger had another hit
along with a walk. Doing well at the top of
the batting order. Catcher Luis Torrens had
three hits on the day. Right now he is playing
more than Tom Murphy at catcher I wonder
what that is about. Being a better defender?
Yusei Kikuchi will start Saturday afternoon
against the Twins. He had a good outing in
his first outing. Giving up a home run was
his only downfall. Kikuchi pitches a lot like
that he should have a good season. The
Mariners will need him to do so.
The Mariners will face right hander and
former Mariner Mike Pineda. He won his
opening start without yielding a run so
could be a tough day for the hitters.
Go M's.
