Mariners Now Even On Season

We all know the baseball season has just
started so we have no idea how it will end
up for the Mariners, however, they are now
2-2.

Monday night's game wasn't what Justus
Sheffield wanted in his first outing of the
season but he got it out of the way. What
is important did he learn from it. We won't
know until his next outing.

Sheffield went only five innings giving up
eight hits, six runs with four earned, two
walks while striking out five. He gave up
three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Sheffield had given up a home run in the
second inning.

It is nice to see Mitch Haniger back playing
for the Mariners. He has gotten off to a great
start hitting.  In this game Haniger had two
of the Mariners three hits: both were doubles,
unfortunately the Mariners were not able to
bring him home.

The third hit was by JP Crawford who is
struggling at the plate. Hopefully this will
allow him to snap out of it. The Sox
tried to pick him off first the ball went into
right field so Crawford made it to third base.
Again they were not able to get him home.

Drew Steckenrider made his second appearance
of the season. Much better than his first. We
hope this will be more often than his first one
was. We will have to see with him to. He went
two innings giving up two hits, one walk, two
strikeouts and no runs.

Will Vest the rule five pitcher the Mariners pick
up during the off-season pitched the final two
innings of the game in his second appearance.
He gave up no hits, walked one and struck out
one. Not given up a run so far. See how that
continues. Could be a good find for the Mariners.

James Paxton makes his first appearance starting
Tuesday night. If he pitches like his last outing
of spring training the Mariners will have a good
shot at winning.

The Mariners face Lucas Giolito right handed
pitcher of the White Sox. In his first outing
on opening day against the Los Angeles Angels
Giolito went five and one-thirds innings giving
up two runs, two hits, two walks and striking out
eight. We hope the Mariners can do better than
that.

Taylor Trammell did not play in this game since
the Mariners started a tough lefty. He should be
back in Tuesday night's game. Sam Haggerty
utility player  started in center field in Trammell's
spot.

Kyle Seager had a rough night Monday where he
had a fielding error along with striking out three
times. I heard some Mariner fans asking what is
wrong with Kyle. Have no idea right now, however,
we will have to see. May have to give Ty France
a game at third.  Go M's.
