they beat the Houston Astros 7-2 Sunday.
Though the Astros were missing key
players because of Covid I will still take
it with the history how badly they have
lost to Houston.
Nick Margevicius started the game however
left after four innings giving up one hit, two
runs with one being earned. The one hit was
a double lost in the sky.
The bullpen did another outstanding job
going five innings with five pitchers without
the Astros getting a hit. At least right now
the Mariners have a good bullpen.
Rafael Montero was expected to be the
closer however he has been pitching the
eighth inning for the most part like he
did on Sunday. The important thing is
he does a good job whenever he comes
into the game. If the Mariners need to
have him keep a hold to go into the
ninth inning so be it.
Mitch Haniger and Ty France continue
their hot hitting having two hits each
and both driving in three runs. The
Mariners do have holes in their lineup
however, if one hitter steps up in the
game they should have success.
JP Crawford hitting streak ended on
Sunday, however, he did walk and
score a run so we will take it.
Dylan Moore continues to struggle
at the plate with no hits and striking
out three times. After last season
we were hoping for success. We
hope he can snap out of it.
Until Kyle Lewis is activated the
Mariners have only three listed as
outfielders in Haniger, Trammell
and Braden Bishop. So far Bishop
hasn't started very often and goes
in as late inning replacement. The
Mariners have been using Moore
along with utility player Sam
Haggerty and Jose Marmolejos
in the outfield though all are
listed as infielders. None of
the three are hitting either.
There are some out there think
Trammell should be sent down
however there is no triple-A
season until May 6 and sending
him to alternate training site
doesn't make a lot of sense
either. Let him get his at bats
until then. The trouble wouldn't
be so bad if the rest of the bottom
of the order wasn't struggling at
the plate as well. He is playing
defense well.
The NFL draft starts in ten days.
Right now the Seahawks have
three draft picks with no first
rounder. I am sure general
manager John Schneider will
find a way to pick up additional
draft picks along the way. What
the Seahawks have done during
the off-season they likely won't
draft a defensive end. The best
choice on defense would be to
take a cornerback at some point.
Otherwise I would look at picking
the best player available at the time.
Washington Huskies had their last
scrimmage that resembled a game
during spring ball. We will now
look to see who will take the
quarterback spot well as at wide
receivers. The Huskies have three
capable running backs who will
share the load so not a real concern
there though like to see Richard
Newton as the starter since he is
the most talented of the three.
Until next time enjoy the Mariners
as they take on the LA Dodgers the
next two days at T-Mobile Park.
