Mariners Lose To Houston

The Seattle Mariners lost second game
in a row this time the opening game in
the four game series at Houston against
the Astros.

This game was very similar to the loss to
the Red Sox on Sunday. The Mariners got
behind early then were not able to score
runs later to tie or win the game like they
have done in some of their games this
season.

Justus Sheffield struggled through the five
and one-third innings he pitched giving up
12 hits and five runs. His fielding and a
number of ground balls  including two
double plays one he started kept him from
being in more trouble as the Astros won
5-2.

The bullpen again gave the Mariners a
chance to come back in the game, however,
it wasn't meant to be. Will Vest pitched
two-thirds of an inning to keep the Astros
from scoring any more runs.

Robert Dugger called up to take the place
of Nick Margevicius spot when he went
on the injured list. Hard to know how long
Margevicius will be out. Stay tuned. Dugger
went two innings giving up two hits but
didn't walk a batter.

The thought is Ljay Newsome will take
Margevicius spot in the rotation. We will
see if this is a good move or not.

Marco Gonzales starts Tuesday against
the Astros. We hope the Mariners can
stay and win this game.

The Mariners two runs were scored on
homers by Kyle Lewis in the third inning
and Kyle Seager in the 6th. The Mariners
had seven hits on the night with Ty France
and Kyle Seager having each two hits.

The bottom of the batting order still struggling
not getting many hits with only JP Crawford
being the only one batting over two hundred.
Crawford and Taylor Trammell  were the only
ones to get a hit from the bottom of the lineup.

The Mariners have shown to comeback later
in games which they will have to do it looks
like to beat the Astros. It will look good if
Marco can pitch well Tuesday night and have
the Mariners win. It will be tough for the
Mariners in this series if the Astros take this
game too.

The Mariners will come home to take on the
LA Angeles over this coming weekend. The
Mariners are now two games back of the
Oakland A's with a record of 13-10. The LA
Angels are a game behind the Mariners while
the Astros are a half game behind the Angels.

The Mariner will need to shuffle the line up
or do something if the bottom of the lineup
keeps hitting the way they are. Outside of
calling up Jarred Kelenic at some point the
Mariners don't have many other reinforcements
unless they make a trade.

They way the bullpen is performing do have
a good chance in winning however the hitters
need to get going as  well. See what happens
Tuesday night. Go M's.
