Mariners Lose to Padres Tuesday

The Seattle Mariners opened inter-league play on Tuesday losing to the Padres in San Diego 6-3. They play again Wednesday afternoon before returning to Seattle against the Texas Rangers for four games before taking on the Chicago Cubs for two next Tuesday and Wednesday at home. In all the Mariners play 20 games inter-league play. Most of the games are against the National League Central.

Erik Swanson pitched another good game in his second start for the Mariners going five and two-thirds innings. He made two big mistakes giving up home runs to right fielder Franmil Reyes in the second and sixth inning. The Padres scored three runs in both the second and sixth inning. Also, catcher Austin Hedges hit a home run for the Padres in the sixth inning.

The Seattle Mariners had two runs scored in the fifth inning and one in the seventh. They had no home runs in this game. One of the few times they haven't had one in a game.

Gordon Beckham drove in the two runs in the fifth inning hitting a double while Domingo Santana drove in his 27th run of the season in the seventh inning. Santana leads the American League in RBI's. 

Felix Hernadez pitches Wednesday afternoon for the Mariners. He has a 1+1 record with an ERA of 4.91. The Mariners are hoping Felix can go at least five innings with little damage in the game.  Go M's.
