Mariners Win Big In Kansas City

The Seattle Mariners continue beating up other teams especially the starting pitchers.  The game though started off with the Royals scoring two runs off of Felix Hernandez in the first inning. Felix was hit near the knee cap with the ball going up the middle. He finished the inning, however, the Mariners brought in reliever Chasen Bradford in the second. I figured it was for precaution but we found out later that Felix had the flu. Not a great way to spend your #33 birthday either.

The Mariners tied the game at 2 in the top of the second inning when Daniel Vogelbach hit his fifth home run of the season, and three batters later Dylan Moore playing at shortstop hit his first major league home run the ball going 432 feet.

Bradford gave up a run in both the second and third inning to give the Royals a 4-2 lead. The Mariners tied the game again in the fifth inning with two runs off starter Homer Bailey.

The Mariners broke open the game in the sixth inning scoring eight runs. Edwin Encarnacion had two home runs in the inning giving him four home runs on the season. The second home run was the big one because the Mariners had two runs on base at the time. Bailey left the game for the Royals in the sixth inning after giving up three of the eight runs. So his line score showed five innings, eight hits, seven runs all earned, two walks, seven strikeouts and giving up three home runs. At the end of the sixth inning, the Mariners were leading 12-4.

Roenis Elias relieved Bradford in the fourth inning and he pitched three innings giving up no hits, walking one batter and striking out four. He was given the win in the game.

Connor Sadzeck making his second appearance went two innings giving up no runs or hits or walks while striking out two. Jay Bruce who hadn't had a hit in the game hit a home run in the eighth inning for his team-leading sixth of the season.

Cory Gearrin who has been struggling on the mound so far pitched the ninth inning for the Mariners. He continues having control issues. He gave up a run on two hits and a walk. Final score Mariners 12 Royals 5.

Other news Shawn Armstrong on the injured list is doing a rehab assignment with the triple-A Tacoma Rainiers. He pitched one inning for the Rainiers on Monday night. The Mariners expect him to pitch one more time before being recalled. Most likely his return will be on Friday when the Mariners come home to face the Houston Astros so the Mariners will have to make room in the bullpen.
