Mariners Losing Streak Continues

The Seattle Mariners had another tough night on Tuesday. Losing again for the second time at home to the Cleveland Indians 4-2. The offense could not come alive once again. So the losing streak is now at five games. At least they still have a record of 13-7.

The Mariners started the scoring in the second inning when Tim Beckham hit a double and scored on one of Tom Murphy's three hits. Unfortunately, the Mariners were unable to take advantage of Murphy's other two hits. He had two doubles and a single. Also, he has caught all of Mike Leake's games so far.

Speaking of Leake he pitched six innings giving up eight hits and two runs. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four.

Roenis Elias relieved Leake in the seventh. He gave up the two last runs to Cleveland. It was his worst outing of the season.

Cory Gearrin pitched the eighth inning giving up one hit, struck out two and no runs. It is possible he is over his control problems since he didn't walk a batter. We hope he can continue doing well the Mariners need his help coming out of the bullpen.

Shawn Armstrong in his third outing after coming off the disabled list gave up a hit and a walk in the ninth inning but no runs.

Jay Bruce extended the home run streak getting one in the eighth inning but not enough to go toward a win. I am sure the Mariner players wish the streak now at 20 games in a row would be over if it meant a victory or two. Bruce is hitting .175 with eight home runs. He is acting like Mike Zunino all or nothing.  At least he didn't strike out.

The Mariners now play Indians in the final game of the series and homestand for a late afternoon game. Erik Swanson makes his first start for the Mariners substituting for Wade LeBlanc who went on the injured list. LeBlanc could be out for a month.

The Mariners go on the road to play four against the Los Angeles Angels and two against the San Diego Padres before returning home to face the Texas Rangers on April 25.
