Mariners Split Road Trip

The Mariners did well beating the Los Angeles Angels taking 3 out of 4 however lost again Wednesday to the San Diego Padres 1-0 making the road trip 3-3. I was hoping the Mariners would be able to split the games in San Diego. The Mariners used to do well when playing inter-league play however last year they were 6-14. They would have made the playoffs last year if the record was reversed or at least having a winning record. Losing the first two to the Padres doesn't mean it will happen again this year having a bad record in inter-league play but not a good start for sure.

The difference in the game Ian Kinsler hit a home run off of Felix Hernandez in the second inning. It was one of only three hits Felix gave up in seven innings. He struck out eight batters as well. This was his best pitching performance in a long time. I am sure the Mariners are hoping this will continue.

The Mariners offense is having problems scoring runs when they don't hit home runs. At least it has only happened in a handful of games. The Mariners need to get Mallex Smith going to be a double threat with Dee Gordon to help score runs when the long ball isn't happening. They should have found a way to score at least one or two runs against the Padres on Wednesday afternoon.

The two hits the Mariners had in this game were by Domingo Santana and Daniel Vogelbach the two hottest hitters in the lineup as well. Vogelbach's hit didn't come until the ninth inning. Each team had one batter walk in the game as well.

Now the Mariners come home to play six games with four against the Texas Rangers and two against the Chicago Cubs. We hope this time they can take 4 wins out of 6 games. Go M's.

In other local sports news the NFL Draft late Thursday afternoon beginning at 5 pm pacific daylight savings time. The Seahawks trading Frank Clark to the Kansas City Chiefs they have two first round picks along with three other picks in later rounds. Now having two first round picks we will probably see the Seahawks trading at least one of them if not both so they can add additional draft picks. Keeping both picks would mean the Seahawks found two impact players to bolster their roster.

I will keep you up to date over the next three days on the draft. Not only the Seahawks but the players being drafted who played for the Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars. Also, anyone else who is from the state of Washington. Best to all.
