Mariners Look Good-Sort Of

Seattle Mariners took three of four from the Red Sox at T-Mobile Park (previously Safeco Field). The Mariners scored 34 runs in the four games, however, the pitching gave up 24. Usually, when giving up that many runs in a series you won't win it but the Mariners are the exception to the rule. 

Another thing it would have been nice if they added on as well. Funny thing to say when scoring 34  however many of the runs happened early on in the game. The first five innings for the most part. The Mariners were able to score runs against the Red Sox starters which is a hard thing to do. They didn't do as well against the relievers. On the other hand, the Mariners bullpen had their struggles along with the defense. 

On Sunday the Mariners won 10-8. All the runs by the Mariners were in the first four innings. They did have more opportunities but didn't add on. The Red Sox had six of their eight in the first four innings as well. The ninth inning was tough because Cory Gearrin had a hard time getting the ball over the plate and walked three batters. Again it looked like the Mariners may blow another game. Casen Bradford came in for the first time of the season. He did walk a batter too but then was able to get out of the inning without getting any more outs. 

News now looks like Hunter Strickland could be out for two months so one of the guys needs to take over the closing spot. Gearrin was given his opportunity but at this point, he won't be the one. Maybe Bradford since he got the save. Also, Anthony Swarzak is expected to come off the injured list any day now. He does have some experience having four saves last year for the New York Mets. 

In Sunday's game, everyone for the Mariners got a hit except for Domingo Santana and Daniel Vogelbach although both walked twice. Vogelbach scored once as well. It was his first start of the season. Omar Narvaez had a three-run homer in the third inning where the Mariners scored seven runs total. Besides Narvaez driving in three runs Dee Gordon did as well.  Jay Bruce had his second homer of the season hitting it in the fourth inning.

Wade LeBlanc recorded the victory as he went five and a third innings giving up seven hits, six runs (four earned), walking three and striking out one. Not one of his better performances. The big blow was a three-run homer off the bat of J.D. Martinez.

Now the Seattle Mariners face the Los Angeles Angels in a two-game series at home. Felix Hernandez will make his first appearance on the season starting for the Mariners on Monday. Marco Gonzales will make his third appearance on Tuesday. The Mariners have Wednesday off then play the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday. They have a rare Friday off then two more games in Chicago than onto Kansas City.  Go M's.
