I am sure most Seahawk fans were not surprised. They had two first-round picks after acquiring one from the Kansas City Chiefs for Frank Clark. Once again they traded down in this draft. They kept the pick for Frank Clark, however, first traded their number one pick #21 to the Green Bay Packers for their number one pick at #30 along with a couple additional picks. Just before picking in the first round they traded #30 to the New York Giants for a second rounder plus a couple additional picks.
Going into the draft the Seahawks had five picks including the two first rounders. They now have eight picks going into day two after selecting L.J. Collier out of TCU in the first round. Head coach Pete Carroll says Collier reminds him of former Seahawk Michael Bennett which means to me we will probably see him playing outside at defensive end well as some time at tackle.
The Seahawks will draft early Friday night in the 2nd round well as having a pick in the third round as well. Saturday they will be busy early having four picks in the 4th round and then two in the 5th round. It would not surprise me if they move up from the 3rd round along with giving away a couple of the 4th rounds or taking one of the 4th rounders and moving down to add a couple in the 6th or 7th rounds. Whatever the case it will be interesting. For now welcome L.J.Collier to the fold.
Far as the Washington State Cougars and the Washington Huskies each team had a player taken in the first round. It is the first time since 1995 that both a Cougar and Husky went in the first round. The Philadelphia Eagles #22 took Adre Dillard offensive tackle from Washington State, and #31 Atlanta Falcons took an offensive tackle Kaleb McGary from Washington. We wish them both a good and long career in the NFL.
Thursday night to honor the Seahawks and the NFL draft the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 14-2. The Mariners were not too kind to the Rangers starting pitcher Taylor Hearn who was making his major league debut. He lasted only a third of an inning giving up five runs while giving up three hits along with four walks. He had trouble getting the ball over the plate.
The Rangers had to use five relief pitchers in the game. The first three relievers gave up runs to the Mariners. This means to it will not be easy for the Rangers bullpen the rest of the series. I am sure we will see all five relievers at some point in the other three games in the series. We hope this allows the Mariners to have a successful series against the Rangers.
Next update will see who the Seahawks pick Friday night and how the Mariners do as well.
