Mariners Pull Out Another Win

This time the Mariner bats didn't come alive early, however, they still found a way to win. Both starters pitched well on Tuesday night but the Mariners won 2-1 on a Daniel Vogelbach home run in the eighth inning. Edwin Encarnacion was in the original lineup, however, he was scratched before the game so Vogelbach replaced him. Vogelbach had a double in the game as well as his winning home run.

The Los Angeles Angels scored first in the third inning when Jonathan Lucroy hit a double than scored on a grounder by DH Kevan Smith. Lucroy had two of the Angels four hits in the game. He was at bat with two outs in the ninth inning with runners on first and third. Reliever Anthony Swarzak made his season and Mariner debut with one out replacing Marco Gonzales who had gone 8 and 1/3 innings. He struck out Albert Pujols before having Lucroy hit a grounder to Dee Gordon to end the game.

Marco Gonzales is now 3-0 in this early season. This is the earliest in major league baseball any pitcher has won three games. Also, he has more wins than 18 teams in the major leagues. This game was his best performance of the three. Since the Mariners bats didn't come alive this time he needed to do so.

The Mariners at 7-1 is the best in the team's history. They showed Tuesday night they could win even if they don't score six runs in the game. They have Wednesday off before facing the White Sox in Chicago on Thursday night. Yusei Kikuchi will try to get his first major league win in his third start. The Mariners have Friday off then Mike Leake starts on Saturday followed by Wade LeBlanc on Sunday.

The Mariners then go to Kansas City to face the Royals. The Mariners haven't announced their starting pitchers yet for the series. We know Marco Gonzales will start in the series, however, will he start the first game by the Mariners skipping Felix in the rotation or have Felix pitch the first game. The way Felix pitched on Monday the likelihood he will pitch in that game. I will keep you updated.

In college basketball, Jaylen Nowell of the Washington Huskies has decided to enter the NBA draft early after his sophomore season where he was named Pac-12 player of the year. The Huskies had three seniors in the starting lineup so the only starter returning is sophomore Hameir Wright so the Huskies will have pretty much a new lineup next season. Sophomore Nahziah Carter who came off the bench this last season will likely be in the starting lineup himself. We will have to see who the remaining starters will be. Best to Nowell in the NBA. He could still change his mind and return to Washington. He is projected to be a late first rounder or early second round pick. Stay tuned for Husky basketball.
