Mariners Not Able to Sweep Angels

The Seattle Mariners were not able to sweep the Los Angeles Angels Sunday afternoon losing 8-6. They did make it interesting since they were down by six runs going into the 9th inning. Tom Murphy and Dee Gordon hit back to back home runs than Mitch Haniger hit a two-run homer. Domingo Santana walked bringing  Edwin Encarnacion up as the tying run with two outs. Encarnacion had an infield pop up to end the game but did make it interesting.

Mike Leake didn't pitch a good game though he was able to go six innings. He gave four runs on six hits. The Angels were able to get three home runs off of him. The Mariners may have won had the bullpen were able to stop the Angels. Shawn Armstrong gave up two runs on three hits in the seventh inning and rookie R.J. Alaniz gave up a home run in the bottom of the eighth.

Being down by six runs going into the seventh inning it made sense not to bring in your top relievers but the Mariners needed relievers who can pitch effectively when their times come.

Now the Mariners go to San Diego for two games on Tuesday and Wednesday. They split those games than the road trip will be a good success.  Go M's.
