The Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers once again winning 5-4 in eleven innings. The Mariners used the whole bullpen except Chasen Bradford. I expect he will likely be the first one out of the bullpen Saturday night. Mike Wright who the Mariners acquired on Wednesday will be activated Saturday so he will likely make his debut with the Mariners too.
The Mariners had a 4-2 lead going into the eighth inning but they couldn't hold it. Brandon Brennan the fifth pitcher out of the bullpen struggled in the eighth inning walking two batters and giving up a double to make the score 4-3. This was his second poor performance in 13 games. I would take that if it only happens every six or seven games that is for sure. Anthony Swarzak came in the 9th to see if he could get a save but gave up a home run to tie the game at 4-4. Former Mariner Shin-Soo Choo pinch hit for the Rangers catcher had the homer.
Roenis Elias pitched the 10th and 11th innings without giving up a hit and struck out two batters. Elias recorded the win as Mitch Haniger hit an infield grounder with the bases loaded but the Rangers were unable to complete a double play.
The Mariners now will see if they can win the series over the Rangers Saturday with Mike Leake going for them.
The Seattle Seahawks did some more maneuvering moving down the draft than up as well. They ended up with three picks on Friday with five picks to go on Saturday. Four of the five picks are in the 4th round and the last is in the 5th round.
The Seahawks picked two players from the University of Utah. The first 2nd round pick they selected Marquise Blair a free safety. Though he doesn't have the size he does hit like recently retired Kam Chancellor. The other player from Utah was Cody Barton an inside linebacker. So we could see him groomed to take some snaps in place of Bobby Wagner. I am sure he will be used on special teams too.
The Seahawks moved up to get another 2nd round pick. It was the last pick of the second round. They decided to go on the offense side of the ball picking up DK Metcalf from Ole Miss. He is a speed receiver who can match up with Tyler Lockett. There is talk to because of multiple injuries and surgeries Doug Baldwin may retire.
The Washington Huskies had three players taken in the second round after having one in the first round. Cornerback Bryon Murphy was the very first selection in the 2nd round being taken by the Arizona Cardinals. So he will be teaming up in the Cardinals defensive backfield with former Husky Budda Baker.
Tight end Drew Sample was picked by Cincinnati Bengals then the Los Angeles Rams moved up to take safety Taylor Rapp.
No Washington State Cougar was taken in day two of the draft. Saturday we should see quarterback Gardner Minshew taken at some point. Also, running James Williams is expected as well. Williams value is he is a good receiver out of the backfield. He could be a career third down back.
Later today I will let you know who the Seahawks draft along with other Huskies and Cougars who are picked.
