Mariners Lose Season Opener

It wasn't a big surprise but the Seattle
Mariners lost the season opener to
the Houston Astros 8-2.

The Mariners opened the scoring
though in the second inning when
Kyle Lewis hit a home run to take
the lead 1-0 in the second inning.

The Astros tied the game in the
3rd after outfielder Josh Reddick
hit a double. Kyle Seager put the
Mariners ahead 2-1 with  a home
run in the 4th inning.

Things went bad in the 5th inning
when the Astros scored five runs.
The flood gates opened when Kyle
Seager threw an errand ball to
second baseman Shed Long.

Michael Brantley hit a three-run
homer to break the game open
making it 6-2.  Outside of Lewis
and Seager's home runs Justin
Verlander was in mid-season form.
He went six innings giving up three
hits while striking out seven.

This game looked a lot like many
of the games the Mariners have lost
to the Astros over the years where
one inning does them in.

Evan White making his major
league debut had his first hit
in the seventh inning. The Mariners
in all had five hits.

Saturday afternoon Taijuan Walker
will make his first start returning to
Seattle where he began his career.

The Mariners defense will have
to clean up for the Mariners to
have any chance in winning and
have a sold outing by Walker
who had a good summer camp.
