Mariner Opener Starts Tonight

We have had to wait for four months
but baseball Mariner style is finally
going to start.

I know the roster probably doesn't
look anything like it would have
back in March but we see what
happens.

The roster doesn't look a lot like
a rebuilding team in my mind.

Kyle Lewis who had probably the
best summer camp will start as
expected in the outfield along with
Mallex Smith.

Lewis and Smith are the only true
outfielders being in the lineup. Jake
Fraley didn't have a good camp so
doesn't start the season on the roster.
They will be going with four players
who are more known as infielders
having playing time in the outfield.

The relievers will be a new group
except four pitchers who played for
the Mariners last season. So we will
have to get to know them.

The starting pitching and the infield
will be what we expected. In spring
training the starting rotation was to
be five starters but the Mariner brass
decided to go with six.

The starting five competition was for the fifth
spot between Taijuan Walker and Justin
Dunn. Adding a sixth starter has allowed
both of them to start.

The starting rotation should be the strength
of the team. How they do over the next
sixty games will tell us how good the team
will be.

We know the defense will be better than
last year especially with Evan White at
first base. Whoever plays in left field should
be better than what the Mariners had for
most of last season.

The defense will help the pitching not
needing to throw more pitches because
of errors and balls that dropped in as
well.

So play ball. Good to see the game again
no matter how many wins the Mariners
have or not. Go M's.
