Mariners 6 Diamondbacks 5
The Mariners scored a run in the
first inning on a walk to Tom
Murphy scoring JP Crawford.
All the Mariners needed was
another walk or hit to score more
runs as they got the bases loaded.
It stayed that way 1-0 until the
4th inning when Arizona was
able to score a run. The Mariners
put together two runs in the 5th
and 6th inning on homers by
Mitch Haniger and Jarred Kelenic.
Thought easy win against the worst
team in the National League but no
Tyler Anderson who had pitched well
in the first six innings came in the
7th inning surrendering two more
runs followed by Sean Doolittle
to allow runners to get to second
and third. The Mariners brought in
Paul Sewald with two outs. This
time though he gave up a hit to
score to tie at 5-5. Outside of
Perez grand slams in two games
for KC it sounded so familiar.
Sewald finally was able to get out
of the 7th inning without surrendering
another run. The rest of the bullpen
did fine after that. Give Sewald slack
a reliever is not going do it right every
time out though he has been outstanding.
Both the 8th and 9th scoreless for both
teams so headed to the 10th. Seager
being the runner on second being in
extra innings was able to go to third
on a ball hit to first base by Abraham
Toro. Kelenic was able to get another
hit driving in Seager. The bottom of
the 10th Yohan Ramirez was able to
get the Diamondbacks to go one, two
and three the ball game.
Mitch Haniger had a good game having
three hits including the home run in the
5th inning. He had a hit in the first inning
allow to get Crawford to be in scoring
position to eventually score. Outside of
those two the top of the lineup didn't do
much of anything. Toro though was able
to move Seager over to third. Kelenic
was basically it in the bottom of the order.
The Oakland A's lost so the Mariners were
able to gain a game on them for the wild
card spot though the Red Sox won.
Marco Gonzales will start Saturday
against the Diamondbacks. We hope
he has a similar out to Anderson without
the 7th inning.
In Seahawks news they traded cornerback
Ahkello Witherspoon to the Pittsburgh
Steelers for a 5th round pick in 2023.
The lack of good depth at cornerback
makes me wonder what was wrong with
Witherspoon the Seahawks signed as a
free agent during the off-season.
Tre Flowers will start at one cornerback
spot and DJ Reed at the other. Flowers
hasn't given a lot of confidence in the
three years in Seattle. He does well against
the run but has difficulty against the pass.
We hope the safeties will be able to help.
The Seahawks will need to have a good
pass rush otherwise it could be a long season
on the defensive side of the ball. We will see.
The Washington Huskies open Saturday at
5 pm against Montana at home. Have takeaways
from the game as well more Mariners and
WSU Cougars play as well.
