to get their new head coach after
the departure of Kalen DeBoer to
Alabama.
I am sure most of us thought
DeBoer would stick around more
than two years. These is the life
of college sports. Have no idea
how long the athletes will stick
around as much as the coaches.
The Huskies announced the
hiring of Arizona head coach
Jedd Fisch as the new one
Fisch spent three years Arizona.
It was a tough first season going
1-11 in 2021 then 5-7 in 2022
and finally 10-3.
After Arizona's loss to the Huskies
the Wildcats were the hottest team
in the Pac-12. With the talent has
and Fisch will bring in they still will
be a good team.
The Huskies have already lost
several players in the transfer
portal however I am sure Fisch
will try to bring some of them
back into the fold. At this point
we don't know how many they
will lose.
Alabama lost 18 players to the
transfer portal and could lose
more. I am sure they lose more
and the Huskies are around
12 they have lost. They could
lose more depending on how
upset the players are and who
may follow DeBoer to Alabama.
Those who are still eligible being
around before could stick it out
at Mountlake.
Fisch will bring some players
over from Arizona plus those
who he might have been interested
in before taking the Washington
job.
We feel the same for the players
and fans of the Wildcats since
they are going through the same
as the Huskies. I wish them to
get the right head coach as well.
It will continue to be a ripple
effect though. It is to bsd that
Alabama didn't go within and
hire an assistant who had been
at the school already.
In men's basketball the Huskies
lost to UCLA at Pauley Pavilion
73-61. Going into the game the
Bruins had only one win the Pac-12.
They have a young team. On the
roster they have eight freshman,
four sophomores, two juniors
and one senior. Two freshmen,
three sophomores and one junior
are getting the bulk of minutes.
The Huskies two upsets are
against Gonzaga and Arizona
both at home. The Huskies are
now 2-4 in the Pac-12. Three
of the four losses are on the
road. The one loss at home
the Huskies lost by two to
Oregon. The Huskies will need
to do better on the road to
make the NCAA tournament
in March. Also for head coach
Mike Hopkins to keep his job.
Likely the Huskies will be
looking for a new head coach
after the season.
The Huskies were led by point
guard Sahvir Wheeler with 27
points. He is his having a good
stretch lately. On the season
he is averaging 16.5 points
and 6.3 assists per game.
He is second on the team in
scoring behind Keion Brooks
Jr. who had 12 points.
The Huskies shot poorly on
the day making 40.4 from
the field while UCLA shot
50 percent. UCLA made
four more shots. Both
made the same amount
of three pointers at six
though the Huskies shot
almost twice as many at
25. Had they shot almost
the same percentage as
UCLA they may have won
the game. The Huskies
took just under 50 percent
outside the 3pt.line while
the Bruins were at 28 percent.
This week the Huskies play
at California on Thursday and
Stanford on Saturday. California
has same identical record as
Washington at 2-4 in Pac-12
though not as well overall. The
Huskies have a better record
California is 5-4 at home.
Stanford is third in the Pac-12
with 4-2 record. Overall they
are 7-2 at home. Huskies will
need to avoid being swept.
Go Dawgs!
