Seattle U Beats UW

I guess it is meant to happen
someday and it happened
where Seattle U beat the
Washington Huskies 79-70.

The Huskies had a 19 game
winning streak going into this
game. A surprise since the
Huskies had their best game
before over the Washington
State Cougars in the previous
game.

The Seattle Redhawks had a
a good first half while the
Huskies didn't out scoring
38-23. The Huskies did much
better in the second 47-41
but as you see not enough
to win.

Neither team did well shooting
3s. The difference was at the
foul line where Seattle made
29 of 32  while Huskies made
16 of 23. The Huskies still have
trouble shooting   from the line.
A bit better would have made
the game more interesting.

The Huskies face NJIT on Sunday
at home. If you haven't heard of
NJIT neither have I. They have
only won two games so the Huskies
should be able to rebound in this
one. This will be the last one of
non-league schedule.

The Huskies begin the Big Ten
schedule on January 2 at home
against Maryland followed by Illinois on the 5th. The Huskies have losses against UCLA and USC already in
the conference ealier in December
so important to win these two games
or certainly one for sure.

The Huskies do have an 8-4 record
overall which is a good sign. The
Huskies had three player score in
double figures with Tyler Harris
leading with 20 points followed
by Great Osobor with 19. Osobor
led with 10 rebounds. These two
have had a good season so far
for the most part.

Freshman Zoom Diallo came off
the bench with 13. He has started
some games so  be interesting
whether he will start again or come
off the bench still.

Mekhi Mason and DJ Davis had a
combined seven points while Tyree
Ihenacho had zero. These three
need to contribute more in the
scoring for Huskies to have a
successful season and make the
NCAA tournament.

Jase Butler had three points while
Christian King had eight points.
Wilhelm Breidenbach didn't play.
They hope to have Franck Kepnang
back in January. He is the heart
and soul of the team. This may mean
an eight to ten players rotation though
we will see.  Go Dawgs!

Seahawks Lose Again

The Seahawks had Geno Smith
back this week after leaving last
week in the third quarter.

The Seahawks lost at home to
the Minnesota Vikings 27-24.
It hasn't been a good year at
Lumen Field for the home team.

Another thing Geno had a good
throwing game except giving
up two interceptions. He had three
touchdowns. Again they had too
many passes where he threw 43
times with 31 receptions for 314
yards. The Seahawks haven't
done well when the running game
is not doing well. They should try
doing more so since we see the
losses continue when doing so.

Kenneth Walker III returned and
he had 8 carries for 31 yards. He
did have 8 catches though only
28 yards. Zach Charbonnet wasn't
sure to play ran the ball once and
two catches. Third running back
Kenny McIntosh had only three
carries.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba again led the
Seahawks with eight receptions
for 95 yards and a touchdown.
DK Metcalf had three catches for
57 touchdowns and a touchdown
as well.

Justin Jefferson led the Viking
with 10 catches for 144 and
two touchdowns. Sam Arnold
didn't throw any interceptions.
He had three touchdown passes.

Thursday night the Seahawks play
the Bears in Chicago. It is a must
win for the Seahawks if they have
any chance to make the playoffs.
The Rams have a 9-6 record while
the Seahawks are 8-7.  The two
teams finish the season playing
each other.  The Rams play the
Cardinals at home next Saturday.
It doesn't look good for the
Seahawks.

About the Seattle Mariners

I haven't  said a lot about the Seattle
Mariners in recent weeks since they
haven't  made any major  moves.

There are a few Mariners  groups
that mention about moves they
could make. I am not much on
speculation  since most of them
don't  happen.

This is another year the Mariners
haven't  made  any moves that will
make any difference  to  the  team
before Christmas.  They have signed
minor league deals though likely
none will help the team besides
adding depth in case of injuries.

Now we see whether they sign or
trade before Christmas  which at
this point doesn’t  seem likely
unless it is one that has been in the
works.

We do know at this point  the Mariners
need a first, second and third baseman.
Luke Raley maybe the guy at first against
righties however someone else against
lefties. Raley is an outfielder  to  so he
would be the 4th outfielder at this point
to. I  am  surprised  they haven't signed
either Justin Turner or Carlos Santana.
Maybe that is a conclusion that just
hasn't  finished.

At second base  the Mariners  may not
sign or trade and stay in house with
Leo Rivas, Ryan Bliss and Dylan Moore.
Though Rivas and Bliss have shown signs
they don't  seem to be the answer. Dylan
Moore  isn't  either in my book. We may
have to live with it.

Third base is the big question and who
will that be. The Mariners  front office
may know but not the fans. They may
go for a free agent or a trade. Staying
in house wouldn't  make sense unless
they bring in a second baseman.

I am not sure the hitting  will be better
however Edgar Martinez  oversees that
department  so does give us hope. The
most important is Julio gets off to a
good start. Everyone  else  may follow.

Have a wonderful  holiday and we see
how things go for the Mariners. Spring
Training  begins in about two months.
Go M's.

The Zags Win Wednesday

The Gonzaga  men responded after two
losses to Kentucky  and  Connecticut
by beating  Nicholls  102-72. This was an
expected win.

The Zags  were led by Braden Huff off
the bench. Ben Gregg led with 10
rebounds off the bench as well. The
Zags had six  players in double figures
in scoring.  They had an eight-man
rotation.

The Zags shot well  in field goals
making 35 of 54 for 64.8 per cent.
They went on a 22-4 run to end
the first half.  Didn't  look back
after that. The 3pt shooting was
good at 8 for 17.  Nicholls did
better as for those made in ten
however shot 33 times. The Zags
made 24 of 27 free throws which
many more than  their opponent
who made 8 of 11.

The Zags play Bucknell Saturday
night at home.  Bucknell is in
the Patriot League with a 4-7
record. Go Zags!

Huskies Beat Cougars At Home

Both teams the Huskies and
Cougars are having a good
season in men's basketball.

The Huskies having a good time
against in state rivals so far.
The Huskies won Wednesday
night on their home court though
plenty of Cougars fans in stands.

Final Huskies 89 Cougars 73

The Huskies shot better from the
field including making four more
3s. The unusual thing the Cougars
out rebounded the Huskies. What
made a difference the Cougars had
22 turnovers to Huskies 7.

The Huskies next outing will be
at home against Seattle University
next Monday night. The Cougars
play North Iowa on Saturday.

Dickert Moving On WSU

It looked like Jake Dickert would
stay at Washington State however
with all the transfers through the
portal made things bad for the
Cougars.

It is reported that Dickert will
be going to Wake Forest as head
coach. Can't blame him with the
transfer portal and NIL.

Report is John Mateer will be
getting NIL deal from $2 to 3
million. Other players will leave
Pullman was well. In two years
we hope a new Pac-12 will be
happening however right now
a lot of pain for at least football.
We will have to see about men
and women basketball along with
other sports how they will survive.

Don't care much for the transfer portal
or the NIL.  This may work for the
top players however that is a small
percentage. It can hurt the sports
that doesn't make money for the
Universities.  In a few years some
sports will likely take place at the
schools any longer. The word is greed.

Transfer portal makes sense for those
who are not able to start or are walkons. The players are looking
at the money more than anything.
We hope that sanity comes back
but what are the odds.

We hope both Washington State
and Oregon State things look
better in two years.

More on Transfer Portal and other

The Washington Huskies are now
up to 16 who have entered the
transfer portal. The biggest name
Khmori House a freshman linebacker
announced he was going to leave.
He was named freshman of the
year and was expected to be a starter
in 2025. Now the Huskies will have
to look for his replacement.

The Huskies have added two defensive
lineman through the portal. Positions
the Huskies needed to find because
of graduations. Anterio Thompson
who will have two years remaining
in eligibility coming over from.Western
Michigan and Simote Pepa a fifth-year
senior from Utah. We wish them both
high success as Huskies.

Running back Cameron Davis is
transferring to Minnesota. The
Huskies don't have them on the
schedule so meeting up with
Davis would only happen they
each other in the Big Ten
Championship game.

News came out on Monday that
Cougar quarterback John Mateer
is going to enter the transfer portal.
The Cougars alumni were able to
raise $1million of NIL money to
keep him however word is out
another university has offered
$2 or $3 million. We will see where
he goes. Mateer could have ended
up as the greatest Cougar qb but
not happening.

On Saturday Gonzaga lost to
Connecticut 77-71. It was a tough
loss competitive game. The second
loss in a row after losing to Kentucky
by a point. The  Zags are now
ranked #13.

The Zags had three starters who
scored in double figures while
not getting much out of the other
two. The game took place in
Madison Square Garden in New
York.

The Zags were led by Khalif Battle
with 21 points. His play in the
first half allowed the Zags to stay
competitive and have a chance.
The Zags shot 37.5 percent behind
the 3 point line they just didn't take
enough of them. Did better than
their opponent though.

The Zags will be home Wednesday
night to take on Nichols State.
The game is at 6 pm. The Cougs
will be at Washington to take on
the Dawgs in tge basketball
version of the Apple Cup. The
game starts at 8 pm on Wednesday
night so you could watch both
games. Go teams!

Packers Beat Seahawks Sunday Night

We all knew this would be a hard game
for the Seattle Seahawks to win and
we expected it might be a tough
game which it turned out to be.

Final Packers 30 Seahawks 13

The Packers winning ended a four
game winning streak by the Seahawks.
The Packers dominated the first
quarter with two touchdowns. The
Seahawks were unable to stop them
in their first two possessions. This
was a question into the game with
the Packers having a good running
game though the Seahawks have
done better to stop it in recent games.

The Seahawks were able to kick a
field goal early on in the second
quarter.  The Packers though kicked
two field goals themselves in the
second quarter. The last one was
ending the first half. The score
then was 20-3.

For the Seahawks it was going to
take a change for them to win
however it didn't happen. In fact
just over seven minutes remaining
in the third quarter Geno Smith was hit and went down with a knee injury. At
this point not sure whether Geno
will play against the Minnesota
Vikings next week or not. Have to
stay tunned for updates.

Both teams kick field goals in the third
period with Jason Myers getting one
shortly after Sam Howell came in the
game for Geno.

Zach Charbonnet had a touchdown
in the fourth quarter to make it
somewhat interesting making it
23-13 at the time with 11:16 remaining
in the game. Romeo Doubs caught
an amazing catching diving in the
end zone with 4:59 left in the game.
That pretty much sealed the game
for Green Bay.

The Packers had 369 total yards
compared to Seahawks 208.
Had Geno not been hurt Seattle
may have had a chance though
still difficult.

Geno threw 15 of 19 caught for
149 yards and an interception.
Sam Howell didn't do well with
5 of 14 being caught and an
interception as well. Coming
off the bench cold isn't easy
to do.

Zach Charbonnet who had a
career game against Arizona
last week wasn't close this
time around. He carried the
ball eight times for 54 yards
and the TD.  Kenny McIntosh
and George Holani who came
in late each had three carriers
with ten and nine yards each.

This showed the Seahawks
tried to pass instead of run
the ball. The Packers are good
against the run however this
backfired on the Seahawks.
They should try to run the ball
in the remaining games. They
are more successful doing so.

Next Sunday will be at home
again this time they play the
Vikings who have already clinched
a playoff spot. We hope this helps
out tge Seahawks. The best chance
they win the remaining three games
to get in.  Go Hawks!

Changes At Washington Huskies Football

The Washington Huskies football
team will have chsnged going into
next football season.

It won't happen just  with the transfer
portal but with coaching staff as well
On Wednesday it was  announced
former NFL head coach Bill Belichick
is going to University of North Carolina
as head coach. Well his son Steve
is the defensive coordinator at
Washington and likely will follow him.
there is the thought.

Bill said he won't make any announce-
ments to his coaching staff until those
he wants to hire until they are finished
with their bowl games. No announcement
will come forward about Steve
until the Huskies are finished
with Sun Bowl at the end of
December.

The transfer portal won't conclude
until December 28 on this round.
The Huskies right now have 13
players who have entered the transfer
portal. There is a few that will play
in the Sun Bowl however most have
moved on. If Steve leaves hard to
know whether any defensive players
will follow or not who haven't declared.
Most of Huskies defensive players
were on the roster last year before
Steve was hired. Also moving across
country may not be ideal though
some could leave anyway.

The next transfer portal happens
in April so the Huskies could lose
some after the spring game as
wellmas gain more. The Huskies
did add another offensive tackle
on Thursday in Calvin Willis from
Kansas State. Willis spent five
years atmKansas State and has
one yearmleft in eligibility. He
likely will be a graduate student
at UW. There. is a possibility of
adding one or two more offensive
lineman go the team as well.

Jeremiah Hunter and Giles Jackson
eligibility is up at wide receiver.
Though do have back ups the
Huskies may bring in  one or two
additional  receivers as well. The
Huskies do have freshman Decker
DeGraaf who should be back
however Keleki Latu is finished so
another tight end could come as well.

Freshman Desmond Williams Jr.
is expected to be the Huskies
starting quarterback next year.
They have two recruits coming in
however they could bring in
another to back up Williams.

On defense the Huskies have
five starters and five reserves
that are graduating so they
will need to bring in replacements
as well.

Stay tune further for more updates
to the roster. Go Dawgs!

Preview Green Bay at Seattle

The Green Bay Packers are coming
to take on the Seahawks this Sunday
night. The Seahawks need another
win to stay on top of the west division.

The Packers are third in the central
at 9-4. The Lions and the Vikings
are ahead of them. The Seahawks
take on the Vikings the following
Sunday as well. Most likely the
Packers will be in the playoffs
even if they lose to the Seahawks.
The home team most likely won't
make the playoffs unless they do
win the division. The Seahawks
end the season against the Rams
who always give them trouble and
the reason to keep winning.

The Packers have a pretty good
running game however the last
several games the Seahawks have
done well. The Packers have 40
touchdowns which is a good number
on the season plus 23 field goals.
The Seahawks can limit the Packers
to field goals and score some TDs
that would really help.

The Packers lost to the Lions last
Thursday night 34-31 however they
have ten days to be ready for the
Seahawks. Jordan Love has 21
touchdown passed with 11 interceptions and has been sacked
11 times. If the Seahawks can
cause a crucial interception that
will help them for sure.

Josh Jacobs is the Packers primary
running back. He is third in the NFL
in rushing with 1053 yards and he has
11 touchdowns on the ground. He has
most of the Packers running TDs. The. Seahawks will have to neutralize him.

The Packers use six players in their
passing game. Tight end Tucker
Kraft is second on the Packers in
catches however leads with seven
touchdowns. Wide receiver Hayden
Reed is first in catches with 44 and
yardage with 693 yards. He is second
to Kraft in catches for touchdowns
with six.

On defense they have allowed more
plays than their opponents. They do
have more yardage though. They
give up more yardage in the air
than on the ground. The Seahawks
offensive line will have to what they
did against the Cardinals to have
success on the ground. Though
the Packers have given up 11
interceptions the defense has taken
away 12 so Geno Smith  needs to be
careful. The Seahawks special teams
will need to do better as well.

This game should be a close one.
We hope the Seahawks can find a
why to win and stay in first place.
Go Hawk!

Huskies Men's End Losing Streak

Tuesday night the Washington
Huskies men's basketball team
ended two game losing streak.

At home the Washington Huskies
beat in state rival Eastern Washington
87-69. The Huskies had much better
effort than the previous two games
in losses to UCLA and USC.

The Huskies did make a few changes
including putting Mekhi Mason back
into the starting lineup and responded
leading the team with 23points. The
Huskies had a great night shooting
from the field just over 60 percent.
This included over 51 percent from
3-point land. They made five more
3s than Eastern Washington.

In all four of the Huskies starters
scored in double figures which
they need to do regularly to
achievewins. The Huskies did
well offthe bench with 15 points
total.Christian King who is starting
toreceive more minutes led the
bench with 9 points and 4 rebounds.
Jase Butler had more minutes to
though scoring only three points
he had four rebounds and five
assists.Both King and  Butler could
be important part of the  rotation.
When Big Ten play resumes the
Huskies likely will go with an eight
man rotation.

What made Mason's performance
impressive was that he was in
foul trouble as well and left the
game just over nine minutes
remaining. This helped having
a good game from King and
Butler too.

The Huskies next game will be
against Washington State Cougars.
Though not in the same league
together the Cougars will show
how much better the Huskies are.
The Huskies in total three games
remaining in December. The
Cougarsare 8-2 while the Huskies
are 7-3.The Cougars have a game
on Saturdaybefore facing the
Huskies whichmay help them
against them.

Transfer Portal Begins

The Washington Huskies lost 13
players to the transfer portal
beginning on Monday. Five
players were walkons. The
most notable was punter Jack
McCalister who is a five-year
player. It blows my mind that
five year players are still eligible
however not as  much as six
and seven year players. That
comes down to covid and injuries.
The Huskies will need to find
a new punter.

The most notable player transferring
at this point is running back Cameron
Davis who had a good year in coach DeBoer'furst season. Injuries kept
him out in 2023. Davis was back last
year however since Jonah Coleman
will be the starter once again in 2025
he figured to go elsewhere. The trouble
is the depth if Coleman gets hurt.

The Huskies will lose Sam Adams II
at running back as well. His time at
Washington has been spent on
special teams. Players who stayed
over from DeBoer era and didn't
get a lot of playing time in 2024
can't blame them for moving on.

The Huskies have three edge rushers
who are moving on as well as two
offensive lineman at this point. The
Huskies are looking to rebuild the
offensive line that was a soar spot
in 2024. They do have offensive lineman Geirean Hatchett who
is returning after transferring to
Oklahoma last year. It will be
interesting to see who the Huskies
being in. The team will have some
depth issues during the bowl game.
The transfer portal will continue
to December 28. It will open up
again in April.

Washington State Cougars have
15 players who have gone into
the portal already. Two primary
names were running back Wayshawn
Parker and cornerback Eithan O'Connor. It is hard to know however
they could los quarterback John
Mateer. Stay tuned on both teams
regarding anymore transfers coming
and going.

Gonzaga Loses Close One

The Gonzaga Bulldogs lost Saturday
to Kentucky at the Climate Pledge
Arena in Seattle 90-89.

They blew a 16 point lead had at
half time and the game went into
overtime. Neither team shot well
beyond the 3-point line although
Kentucky made one more than
Gonzaga. The Bulldogs made two
more free throws than Kentucky.

Kentucky had four starters in
double figures however guard
Jaxson Robinson was the key
in the second half scoring 13
of his 18 points.

Graham Ike was the key for
Gonzaga having 28 points
and 11 rebounds. Ben Gregg was second coming off the bench
with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
Ryan Nembhard had 13 points
with 10 assists. Khalif Battle
had 13 points too.

Gonzaga will go on the road to
play Connecticut in New York
on Saturday. It is nice they play
against big time programs. For
the Washington Huskies they
need to do the same thing to
grow up their men's team too.

The Huskies only big game the
rest of December is against the
Cougars on Wednesday December
18. They continue the Big Ten
schedule on January 2 at home
against Maryland followed by
Illinois on January 5. The Cougars
playing well so the Huskies beat
them will really help. I believe
the Huskies will improve over
the season. The same should be
for the Cougars. It would be a good
notch if all three Washington
schools made the NCAA tournament.
We wish them all the best.

Seahawks Win Again and More

The Seattle Seahawks beat the
Arizona Cardinals again this
Sunday 30-18 on the road.
The Seahawks are now 8-5
and still in first place. The Rams
will be 7-6 while the Cardinals
and 49ers 6-7. The Seahawks
have now won four games in
a row.

The Seahawks had their best
running game of the season
which they have tried all season.
Zach Charbonnet started in place
of Kenneth Walker III who was
out with injury. Zach ran 22 carries
for 134 yards and two touchdowns.
Both were in the first half the second
went for 51 years near the end of
the second quarter. It put the
Seahawks up 24-10.

The Cardinals started the scoring
with a touchdown at 11:52 left in
the first quarter. The Seahawks
had 17 unanswered points in the
quarter with field goal and two touchdowns.

Geno Smith ended up throwing 30
balls with 22 caught for 233 yards
and one touchdown. The defense
was able to intercept Kyle Murray
twice. The Cardinals offense had
more yardage in the air primarily
in the fourth quarter when trying
to catch up and the Seahawks
playing preventive defense. The
Cardinals tried to get within six
points late in the 4th quarter by
kicking a field goal however
missed it by hitting the goal post
to help the Seahawks control
the clock and Jason Myers kicked
a field goal with 1:56 left in the
game.

Kenny McIntosh was able to get
some carries as the number two running back seven that is for 36
yards and had two catches. Zach
Charbonnet led with seven catches
for 59 yards. As far as wide receivers
Jaxon Smith-Njigba and five
including a touchdown. DK Metcalf
was next with four for 49 yards.
Tyler Lockett had no catches.

The Seahawks play home next
Sunday Night Football on NBC
against the Green Bay Packers.
The Packers are 9-4 and in third
place of the NFC North. It will be
tough for them to win the division
however likely make the playoffs
by beating out the NFC West teams
that don't win the division. This why
important for the Seahawks to continue to win games. This one
coming up is almost a must win
for the Seahawks. The following
week the Seahawks are at home
again against the Minnesota
Vikings which will be another
tough opponent. The Seahawks
will need to split those two
games to have the best shot
to make the playoffs at least.
Go Hawks!

The Washington Huskies and
the Washington State Cougars
now know who they will play
in bowl games.  The Cougars
will play Syracuse in the Holiday
Bowl game on Friday December
27 while Huskies on December
31 in the Sun Bowl against Louisville. Both games should be exciting
and it will be tough matches for
both Washington schools.

Cougars Win Huskies Lose

The Washington State   Cougars
who are having another good
season so far with a new coach
and pretty much new players.
On Saturday afternoon the  Cougars
beat Boise State on the road
74-69.

The Cougars had a big lead in the
first half 44-24 so it looked like
they would win easily however
the second half was almost polar
opposites with Boise State going
45-30. Though got close and win
got into doubt they couldn't pull
it off.

The Cougars went most of the
way with all five starters each
playing over 30 points and three
in double figures. LeJuan Watts
had a double double leading in
points and rebounds along with
assists. He had 20 points, 11
rebounds and six assists. Dane
Erikstrup had 14 points and Isaiah
Watts with 12 points.

The Cougars shot 50.9 percent
from the field however both teams
not do well when it came to shooting
3 point shots being under 30 percent
from.the field. Ndith team did well
shooting from the free throw line.
The Cougars were 55.6 percent
the Broncos were exactly at 60.
The Cougars won't play again
until next Saturday at home
against Missouri State. They
are 5-4 heading to Pullman.

The Washington Huskies struggled the is week first losing on the road at
UCLA. Saturday afternoon they lost
to USC 85-61 on their home court.
Now the Huskies will have to work
to play against Big Ten foes.

The Huskies had only two players
in double figures. Most of the starting
five didn't have a good day. Mekhi
Mason led the Huskies off the bench
with 15 points while Zoom Diallo
had 10.

The Huskies next game will be this
Tuesday against Eastern Washington
at home. We hope to see better results.

Washington State Cougars Football

The Washington  State  Cougars  about a month
ago looked like it would be a special season
than they were upset by   three teams to the
season.

Being a Cougar again is not much fun. Found
ou the offensive coordinator  is going to
Oklahoma  and likely  why they lost those three
games. Quarterback  John Mateer having a
special  season is likely  going to transfer to
Oklahoma unless another team offers more
NIL money. Word is out that running back
freshman  Wayshawn Parker is going to
enter the transfer portal as well.  He most
likely  end up in  Oklahoma  as well.

I think that the Cougars should have fired
the offensive  coordinator  as soon as they
heard he was leaving. They fired defensive
coordinator  after the Wyoming  game. The
Cougars defense hasn't  been  good  all
season  long.

Whatever bowl game the Cougars go to
the team likely  won't  look the same. It
would be nice if Mateer and Parker announce
they are leaving after the bowl  game but
they won't. This means that the bowl game
will be played by the backup quarterback
and running back at least.  Kyle Williams
is a senior however will the receiver play
in the bowl game we will  have to see.

The good news the Cougars signed 22
incoming freshmen this week. All are
3-star prospects. The bad news how
many will be around  for a while.

Losing players to the transfer portal
means the Cougars  will  have to look
there as well.  Most likely the players
won't  be as good unless they find a
few surprises  and then lose them
next year at this time.

I  recently  wanted to watch  the  Cougars
means basketball team  on television
however two games were shown  on
ESPN  Plus which meant I would have
to pay more money. This is another
problem  with  college sports. Otherwords
ESPN  is greedy. Most likely  most of
the good games we might not see
though at least three games are probably
going to be watched on the channel while
watching on the other ESPN channels.
We should start seeing some of there
games on CW.

I figure that I  already  pay enough on
Xfinity. I hope that with them going
to streaming more and selling off
newschannels and such I can end
up paying less. That is likely  not
to happen  however I  don't  have
to pay more I will be happy somewhat.
Go Cougs!

The Seattle Mariners Infield

The Winter Baseball meetings begin
on.Sunday. There is speculation that
the Mariners will be involved in a trade
or two during that period. I am not
much into speculation myself. Those
who write about such things is their
job.

The Mariners do trade it will likely
bring back at least a second or third
baseman. The Mariners could have
a first baseman however that is likely
going to be in free agency in some
manner. Right now Luke Raley is
the Mariners first baseman. The
thought is the Mariners would bring
in a right handed bat to platoon
with Raley who is considered the
4th outfielder as well. Currently
Tyler Locklear is the right handed
bat however is he ready to play
in the major leagues is the  question.

JP Crawford is the lone starter expected at shortstop with the
Mariners bringing in a second
and third baseman or just one
of the spots. The Mariners right
now have 37 spots filled out of
the 40-man roster. There are at
least three players plus a few
pitchers who could come off
the roster in my mind. This could
mean filling first, second and third
for those three vacant spots. The
Mariners may look at adding a
reliever or two as well however they
do have 21 pitchers on the 40-man
roster. The opening day roster will
have 13 pitchers on it. This means there are eight left over for depth
though they could release a couple,
however they do have a few signed
to minor league deals to. One of
them could take a spot on opening
day the Mariners don't have many
set for the eight relievers.

Looking at the Mariners second and third base spots if they didn't bring
anyone in. Ryan Bliss, Leo Rivas
spent sometime with the Mariners
this last season and there is top
prospect Cole Young as well. Bliss
and Rivas are both on the 40-man
roster while Young would have to
be added if he was on the opening
day roster. Rivas is a switch hitter
while Young bats left handed. Bliss
is a right handed hitter so the
Mariners could choose to platoon
at second base. If Young makes
the team he should play most of
the time and maybe Bliss against
a tough lefty. Bliss could play
some shortstop or third base on
occasion to. At third base the M's
recently required Austin Shenton
from the Tampa Bay Rays. He is
a left handed hitter and Dylan
Moore could platoon with him.
This doesn't seem good if the
Mariners don't acquire at least
one player at second or third base.
The Mariners haven't done well
platooning the last couple years.
Dylan Moore a good utility player
hasn't shown to be a starter except
an occasion when a player is hurt
and for a week or two. Last season
the Mariner had to use Rivas at
shortstop while Crawford was out
near the end of being on the injured
list. Moore is best as being on defense
and has use offensively but not in a
big way. Dylan's best is to come
off the bench late in games to take
advantage of what he can do. I could
see him pinch hitting with runners
on base and stay in the game afterwards. He can be used as a pinch
runner as could either Rivas and Bliss
off they made the team.

The Mariners could be in a tough
spot without bringing in a second
or third baseman. The choice would
a third baseman at least depending
who.they acquire. We hope that
we have some answers to the infield
when next week is over. Go M's!

Preview Seahawks at Cardinals

It hss only been almost two weeks
since the two teams played so hard to
know how this game will go.

The last game was a defensive battle
and I expect the same out of this one
though we never know until its played.

The Seahawks are in first place so
they control whether they win the
division or not. Beating the Cardinals
on their field and taking the series
will help for sure. The Cardinals are
6-6 along with the Rams. The 49ers
are 5-7 while the Seahawks are 7-5.

The Seahawks still have to play the
Rams again which isn't an easy feat
for them.

The key for the Seahawks offensively
is for the running  game too improve
and that is on the offensive line.
Also special teams will need to do
better than last week. Geno Smith
needs to make quicker decisions
and the defense do what they have
in recent weeks. Go Hawks!

Huskies Early Signings

The Washington Huskies signed
all the 28 incoming freshmen who
committed on early intent day.

Seven of the players are listed
as four star prospects while
remaining are three stars. At
the top of the list is Zaydrius
Rainey-Sale the top recruit
out of state of Washington from
Bethel High School. He is considered
one of the top linebackers in the
USA.

Another 4-star on defense is Rylon
Dillard-Allen  a safety. Two wide
receivers, tight end, inside offensive
lineman., and one listed as athlete
who could be on either offense or
defense. They have four others listed
that way among the 3-star prospects.

The Huskies signed two quarterbacks
as 3-star prospects. With Desmond
Williams Jr. expected to be the starter
next season at this point it will be
interesting the two will be around
for how long. The Huskies may go
into the transfer portal to bring in
another quarterback. This will
likely happen even with Williams
as the starter. They have to consider
injuries.

They signed three offensive tackles,
two additional inside offensive lineman, two running backs and an
additional wide receiver on offense.

On defense the 3-star prospects are
two defensive lineman, two edge
rushers , one linebacker and a cornerback. It may take a year or
two to see how the Huskies do.

The Cougars signed 22 players that
are listed with three stars. Sounds
very good for them. Three players
are from state of Washington. They
are cornerback David Kuku from
Mukileo, Melijah Tucker defensive
tackle from Tumwater and defensive end Luke Webb out of Camas. They
signed 12 defensive players.

On offense the Cougars signed
quarterback Steele Pizzela out
of Sherman Oaks California.
Interesting he is listed as a
defensive tackle as well. In
all they have 10 0ffensive players.

The state of Washington had 19
top recruits who signed somewhere.
Boise State had the most signed
as any school that were not a
Husky or Cougars.

We wish the best to all these
young men.

Huskies Lose Conference Opener

The Washington Huskies lost
to the UCLA Bruins 69-58 on
Tuesday night. Both teams
known to each other historically
anyway though the Huskies
have a new coach and a lot
of new players.

The Huskies have been playing
well so far and ended a five
game winning streak. The Huskies
haven't done well at Pauley
Pavilion the home of the Bruins.
A good excuse the Bruins have
had some very good teams.

The Bruins this year after beating
the Huskies are 7-1 while  Washington
is 6-2. Both teams hope to continue
having good season and make it
into the NCAA tournament in March.
It has been a while for the Huskies.
Under new head coach Danny Sprinkle
the Huskies hope to make it a regular
occurence. State of Washington have
had some good plsyers coming out
of high school so if they can get
some of them along with recruiting
nationally and internationally can
make it consistent to NCAA tournament.

The Huskies have two in state
players on the team this year.
Zoom Diallo freshman is
from Tacoma. He started coming
off the bench however his play
he is a starter. At guard he played
25 minutes, eight points, seven
rebounds and three assists. The
other is redshirt freshman Chris
King from Seattle. In recent games
his time has increased. He may
become part of the regular rotation.
Against UCLA he played 11minutes
had three points and two rebounds.
Currently Great Osobor the Huskies
best player who had 14 points and
nine rebounds to lead the team
and returner Wilhelm Breidenbach
who had nine points and four rebounds
are the only front court players getting
playing time so important to have
King to get more minutes especially
if one of them gets in foul trouble.

Tyler Harris who right now  is the
Huskies second best player behind
Osobor was the only other one in
double figures in this game. He
had 12 points and 11 rebounds.
It is important they get others
to score more points.

One big difference in this game was
the Huskies shot 38.8 from the
field and made 3 of 16 in 3-pointers.
The Bruins made five more 3s
and shot at 38.1%. The difference
in the game. Good sign the Huskies
shot 70.1% from the foul line which
is better than they done on the
season so far.

The Bruins had three players who
scored in double figures another
reason for the win. Tyler Bilodeau
and Sebastian Mack coming off
the bench had 16 points each. Dylan
Andrews had 12. Bilodeau led the
Bruins with 9 rebounds.

The Huskies play USC on Saturday.
They take on Oregon Wednesday night.
The Ducks are 7-1 while the Trojans
are 5-3. See how the Trojans do first.
They play Oregon at home before
coming to Seattle for Saturday's
game.

The Huskies play UCLA, USC and
Oregon twice in conference while
the other opponents just once.
Much different than Pac-12 where
playing each team twice.

After playing the Trojans on Saturday
the Huskies play their three instate
rivals. Begin with Eastern Washington
next Tuesday followed by the Apple
Cup against the Cougars on December
18 and Seattle University on December
23. All three games are at Washington.
We see how they do in the next four
games. Go Dawgs!

Signing Intent Day

Wednesday  is first of three days to sign
players  from class of 2025. Unlike
previous years there no letter of intent
day. This all about tge transfer portal.
Speaking of it players can go into tge
portal beginning  next Monday. The
players  will sign what is called an aid
agreement.  They are bound until entering
the transfer portal.

After Friday the period of early  signing
ends. The rest of incoming freshmen
will have to wait until February 2025.
As stated above those who sign could
go into the transfer portal starting next
Monday.

The Huskies  right now have  28 commits.
How many sign this week  will see. The
Huskies have  16 offensive players, 11
defensive  players and one specialist.
Tomorrow  we will  see who signs.
This came from the Seattle  Times.
It will be interesting to see who will
transfer through the portal beginning
next Monday. The Huskies needing help
on the offensive line we will some among
the new prospects as well as signing a
few through the transfer portal.

Giles Jackson  wide receiver and Carson
Bruener both having their eligibility up we
likely  see an experience  wideout and
linebacker to come this way.  Bruener was
named third team all-Big Ten and so did
running back Jonah Coleman  who already
announced he will return next season.
Go Dawgs!

Monday it was announced that the Washington
State Cougars  fired their defensive coordinator.
Tuesday it was announced that the  offensive
coordinator is moving on to Oklahoma. The
Cougars have 21 commitments however it
will be interesting how many sign and those
that don't.  All their recruits are three or two
star so nothing like they were in the  old Pac-12.
The concern might be who they may lose into
the transfer portal.  Makes me wonder whether
quarterback  John Mateer will move on and how
much ties to offensive coordinator.  Since head
coach Jake Deckert is a defensive  coach so it
may seem  Mateer may go however the players
do like the head coach. If Mateer  goes to
Oklahoma  than the current quarterback  Jackson
Arnold will likely  move on to better pasture. This
means the Cougars will  have to  find someone
unless going with a  backup or incoming freshman.
It would be interesting  what in the bowl game
if Mateer  leaves right away. The Cougars will
need someone at least temporarily be the offensive
coordinator.  Transfer portal  makes life interesting.
Go Cougs!

Washington State beat Nevada

The Washington State men's basketball
team beat Nevada Monday night
on the road 68-57.

The Cougars went on a 8-0 run
to close out the first half. Isaiah
Watts led the Cougars with 17
points. He made 5 of 6 3-pointers
in the second half. LeJuan Watts
had 13 points and led the Cougars
with nine rebounds. Ethan Price
and Nate Calmese each had ten points
to round those in double figures.
Calmese had eight rebounds and
seven assists as well. The Cougars
are now 7-2.

Nevada Wolf Pack had only two who
scored in double figures in Kobe
Sanders with 14 and Justin McBride
off the bench had 11. Nevada is now
6-2.

Cougars next game will be Saturday
afternoon at Boise State. The
Broncos are 5-3 and beat San Diego
State 83-82 on Monday November
25 and lost to Boston College on
November 26 63-61. The Broncos
will be a tough opponent for
the Cougars.

The Washington Huskies play UCLA
Tuesday night on the road and
at home against USC on Saturday.
Go Dawgs!

Gonzaga men's beat Davidson
90 to 65 last Friday on the road.
They take on Kentucky this
Saturday at home. Should be
a good game to see. Go Zags!

Geno Smith the right Qb?

I am sure everyone from
fans to the media have a
thought whether Geno
Smith should be the
starting quarterback.

Well right now he is the
quarterback and the
backups do a better job?
They are in first place
of the NFC West division.
The question can be is
this a good or bad division
or average. I am sure the
answer is different in the
same was Geno being qb.

The fact is the Seahawks
running game hasn't been
good all season and despite
that Geno has done good
under the circumstances.
This comes down to the
offensive line unable to
block for good running
backs although they block
good most of the time in
the passing game.

On Sunday against the Jets
Geno was sacked three times.
The question is should he
been sacked those times
or thrown the ball away or
thrown the ball sooner?
On the radio the broadcasters
asked on one of the sacks
did he wait too late for the
receiver to get opened. So
is that on Geno or the receiver.
Of course I was listening so
I don't know and only what I
heard.

One thing I do know is that
Geno should go out of the
pocket most of the time.
When he is throwing the
ball deep throwing the ball
is more important to do in
the pocket. This may come
down to how much pressure
he has been on him during
the game or not. He can still
throw deep outside the pocket
however he hss to plant his feet
first for the best results.

Right now Geno is the best
choice. Whether he is after
this season is a different
story. The thing though the
Seahawks have to improve
their offensive line whether
Geno is the qb or not. They
are wasting the talent of the
running backs which would
help in the passing game to.
Have an offense that can
run and throw equally and
sufficient is the answer.

Right now we know the
Seahawks have control
of the division and need
to best the Cardinals again
this co.ing Sunday too keep
this way. The defense hss
been doing a good job in
 the last three games. It
is them that will get them
into the playoffs. Go Hawks!

Seahawks Win Third In A Row

The Seahawks  beat the New  York  Jets
26-21 coming from behind. This is a game
the Seahawks  didn't  look to win.

The Jets scored two touchdowns in the
first quarter.  The second quarter  was
crazy.  AJ Barner had a touchdown for
a touchdown  throw. The Jets came back
and scored a kick off returner.  Leonard
Williams had an interception and extra
point as blocked. Jason  Meyers kicked
a field goal. Halftime  Jets 21 Seahawks 16

The Jets were  blanked the who rest of
the game. The Seahawks  didn't  score
third period.

Jason Myers had a field goal in the 4th
quarter after the Seahawks  got the ball
down to the one yard line. The Jets had
several  penalties on the job having on
at least three occasions on 4th down.
First case the Seahawks  decided to
go on 4th and six. The Jets had too
many players field. DK Metcalf  had
two good catches on the drive too.
The Seahawks  couldn't  take advantage
of penalties  in the red zone by the Jets.
Geno was sacked back to the 20 on
third down so had to go for the field
goal.

Zach Charbonnet  had a run with about
five minutes left to take the victory.
The Seahawks  are now 7-5 and in
first place. Next week play the Cardinals
in Arizona so see if they can repeat last
weeks game. The stats were basically
the same for both teams. Seahawks
had one more yard in the total  yardage.
Go Hawks!
