six innings pitching a no-hitter. He did
allow a walk however struck out nine.
The Guardians has trouble with his
sweeper.
Cooper Criswell pitched the final three
innings. He gave up two hits. He got a
hit early in the 7th inning however he
got out of it on a double play. Cooper
didn't walk a batter and struck out five.
He to threw a sweeper that the Guardians had trouble with. This means the bullpen
should be in good shape. Most likely
won't see Criswell in the Yankees series.
Hancock keeps pitching like this will
put the Mariners in a tough spot when
Bryan Miller comes back. At least
Miller should have a good rehab
assignment to be ready. The Mariners
could put Hancock back in the bullpen
or go with a six man rotation which they
did a few years ago. This comes down
to how healthy the rest of the starters
go too. Criswell shows he could be a
good long reliever or be ready to pitch
in the rotation if necessary.
The Mariners offense was silent until
the 4th inning. The Guardians starter
to through a lot of pitches. Dominic
Canzone got on followed by Cole Young.
Leo Rivas singled to bring in Canzone.
Brendan Donovan hit a three run homer
to make it 4-0. All four of these guys
had a good series.
In the 5th inning Randy Arozarena hit
a double scoring Julio and Luke Raley
hit a single to bring in Randy. This made
it 6-0. In the 6th inning Cal Raleigh had
his first big hit a double driving in
Donovan making it 7-0. In the 8th
inning Randy singled driving in Julio
who had gotten on by an error of the
Guardians infield making it 8-0.
The final Mariners 8 Guardians 0
This was the first game where the
whole Mariners offense contributed
in some fashion. Mitch Garver is
the only position player who didn't
in the series. It looks like he won't
get much action unless he subs
for Cal.
Monday the Mariners will start
Luis Castillo in his first one of
the season against the Yankees.
Gilbert and Kirby should start
game two and three.
The Mariners will have Thursday
off so Woo will start on Friday
against the Angels followed by
Hancock on Saturday and Castillo
on Sunday. The Mariners have a
road trip with Texas Rangers
starting on that Monday for three
more games. The rotation will
start again. They have Thursday
off again so that weekend will
play the Astros in Seattle plus
Monday for four games. Weird
schedule to me since they go
to San Diego for three then
returning home to play the Rangers
again. Go M's.
