these teams. They both had to go to
a backup quarterback with one by injury
and the other by lack of work.
The Huskies got a win with a treat on
Halloween. Both teams played very
good defense and both offenses
struggled for much of the game though
a few good performances on both sides.
The final was Washington 17 Nebraska 10
The game came down to the last 1:30 in
the 4th quarter. This was a treat for sure.
The Cornhuskers got their only touchdown
in the first quarter at 1:40 left. The Huskies
didn't score until 41seconds in the half with
a 50 yard field goal.
Both Huskies quarterbacks were available
to start but they decided to go with Elijah
Brown. He completed 19 of 30 passes for
136 yards.
In the middle of the 4th quarter coach Jedd
Fisch decided he needed some help so brought
in Desmond Williams Jr. The Huskies still
looked like they were going to lose at the two
minute warning.
On a third down Williams was sacked so
it was 4th and 18. The Huskies had no
choice but to go for it. With a Nebraska
player all over him he was able to get the
ball off and receiver Chris Lawson caught
a 24 catch with a foot just inbounds. The
Huskies had the ball at the 25 yard line.
Williams was down twice then he found
Lawson again for a 25 yard touchdown
with 1:30 left.
Nebraska had a chance since they were
down by three points. 15 seconds later
defensive back Alex McLaughlin stepped
in front of the receiver and intercepted the
pass and ran for 48 yards touchdown.
The Cornhuskers need two scores to win
or tie do they kicked a 42 yard fiend goal
at 31 seconds to go. They went for an
inside kick but who recovered it was no
other than Chris Lawson and that was the
game. Lawson had a career game so far
with 12 catches for 155 yards and the
touchdown. Desmond Williams Jr was
7 of 13 for 99 yards. The Huskies are now
5-3 and need one run in the final four
games to get into a bowl game.
Next Saturday the Huskies are home
to play early afternoon against Penn
State. Go Dawgs.
The Cougars and the Aztecs had more
of a higher scoring game with San Diego
State able to win 26-20. It was a close
first half with SDSU leading by a field goal
17 -14.
The third quarter the Aztecs kicked a
field goal the only scoring that period.
At 9:47 left the Aztecs had a touchdown
to go up by 12 . The Cougars had a
touchdown with 6:55 remaining but
couldn't score again.
As expected the Cougars threw the ball
for 299 yards and the Aztecs ran the
ball for 202 yards. The Cougars again
couldn't run the ball .
The Cougars are now 1-8 so we won't
see them in a bowl game. Next week
the Cougars will be off and then play
Colorado St. at home. Go Cougs.
