Men's Basketball Huskies and Cougars

Both the Huskies  and  Cougars  Friday
 Night began their Pac-12 basketball
schedule  though they had played a
couple games early  December.
The rest of the schedule  all against
conference teams.

The Huskies  were  beaten by the USC
Trojans 80-67.

Takeaways:  The Huskies  are  exciting to
watch though inconsistent.  Though losing
in the first half they were able to take the
lead. Unfortunately  they were not able to
sustain it.

The Huskies will  be in many of their games
but at this point how many games they win
we will see.

Will head coach Mike Hopkins  be able to
stay on after this season we will  have  to see.
Over the rest of the season we will  look at
their players who are getting  in their praying
time. Noah Williams  a transfer from the Cougars
made his first appearance since the beginning
of the season coming off the bench after being
a starter when the season  begins.

The Washington  State  Cougars lost a close
game against UCLA Bruins  who are favored
to win the conference  if not the national
championship.

UCLA  67-66  A close game for sure

The  Cougars  are likely  a better team than the
Huskies though not sure as exciting or talented.
The Cougars  maybe  in the middle of the
conference when the season ends. They have
had to deal  with  injuries so how that works out
in the long run we will see.

The Cougars  will  take on the Trojans on Sunday
while  the Huskies play UCLA. We will see how
talented Washington  is compared to the Bruins.
Monday we will look at Gonzaga as well how
both teams faired Sunday.

Huskies Take Alámo Bowl

Washington Huskies ended the
year and season  beàting Texas
27-20.

The victory wasn't a sure thing
even down to the end. Texas
had ten points to make it
interesting. In fact they had
the ball late but they couldn't
settle for a touchdown but
a field goal instead. To tie they
needed a field goal and TD
so they took the field goal.
The Huskies weren't able to do anything so Texas still had a chance.

Michael Penix Jr was named player of the game though
he didn't have his best game
of the season. A lot of that
had to do with the Longhorns
defense.

Outside of those graduating
or college eligibility over the
Huskies will have most of
the players  returning next season.

Let you know who they will
pickup to strengthen the
team.  Go Dawgs!

Seahawks Thursday

The Seattle Seahawks  are getting  ready
to play their second  to last game of the
season  on Sunday unless they make
the playoffs.

They take on the New York  Jets. The
Seahawks  not playing  well the second
half must win the game plus not having
a winning  record.

Defensive  lineman  AL Woods who has
been out for a while is expected back.
Wide receiver Tyler Lockett  who missed
last  weekend  game against  the Chiefs
may play as well.

Depending  on  the Broncos  winning their
last two games  the Seahawks will have the
number two through five in 2023 draft. The
Broncos  fired their coach Hackett after loss
to the LA Rams. The Seahawks  could trade
down depending  on  what they want to do with
pick. I  am  sure  they will wait to see who is
picked number  one.

Changes will  occur for the Seahawks during
the off-season. The Seahawks  defense is
a one of  the worst in NFL. They need help
on the defensive line well as linebacker. They
could add elsewhere but those  are the two
main spots.

Washington Huskies Football and Basketball

The Huskies play Texas on Thursday in
the Alamo Bowl. For some reason  Texas
is favored though  Huskies have a higher
ranking.  Most likely since the game is
a home game for the Lonhorns.

News came  out  this week that offensive
coordinator Ryan Grubb was given his
second raise in a  month.  The primary
reason was Texas A&M was looking to
have Grubb as their offensive  coordinator.
I  am  not  sure  why going to Texas A&M
would be the right move but did give him
more income. Now he is the highest  paid
assistant  coach  ever at Washington making
$2million a year.

I am sure the Huskies  will  lose Grubb as the
offensive  coordinator when he is offered a
head coaching job or go to the NFL  as an assistant.

In men's  basketball  the Huskies play the USC
Trojans on their home court on Friday  night.
The Trojans  have a 10-3 record  heading to
Seattle.  They upset a couple high ranked teams
so this one won't  be easy for the Huskies.

For the Huskies  to win they have to get off to
a better start than they have most of the season
or at least keep  it close in the first half.  They
follow  playing Sunday  against  UCLA. Won't
be easy  for  that one either. Best to win against
USC  first and go from there. Go Dawgs

Mariners Tuesday

Are the Mariners  going to make a trade
this week  or have to wait for the next
couple weeks.

Most likely  the Mariners  have been in
touch with  other teams but may wait
until the holiday season  is  over.

As I have been giving their top prospects
the likelihood some one of those players
will exit with  a  trade or two.

Jerry  Dipoto  said that the Mariners  need
right hitting bats with one being outfielder
and the other who can play both first and
third base. Give Ty France and Eugenio Suarez
a break once in a while. Can dh as well.

Now look at prospects  16 thru 18

#16 Ashton Izzi  right handed pitcher drafted
in the fourth  round in 2022.. He could move
up the list if the Mariners  trade any pitchers
above him.He to could be involved in a trade
as an added piece to.

#17 Starlin Aguilar who Mariners  signed
as international  player in 2021. The first
of two third baseman back to back. In fact
they have three third baseman  in the top
20. Most likely only one will stick if they
make the majors. Starlin is a left handed
hitter and batted .291 in 2022 in his first
year in USA at rookie ball in Arizona. He
hasn't  shown any power yet so see if it
happens.

#18 the second third baseman Milkar Perez
is a switch hitter. Like Starlin he hasn't shown
power  either. After a good start in 2021 Milkar
hit under .200 in 2022 at low level A I expect
the 21 to begin another season at Modesto
unless he shows a lot in training camp  where
he  could  be  at high level  A Everett.

Next time look at prospects  go for # 19 and 20

Looking to 2023

The Seattle  Mariners  were the story
locally  making the playoffs  for the
first time in 21 years. They did so well
though they were swept  by the Houston
Astros  it was only by three pitches.
It took 18 innings in the third game for
the Astros to win the game and they
went on to win the World Series.

The Mariners  have made two trades so
far to improve  the  offense. They picked
up Teoscar Hernandez from Toronto  and
Kolten Wong from Milwaukee.  The Mariners  lost
Mitch Haniger in the process  to the SF
Giants and Adam Frazier  to Baltimore  in
free agency.

Hernandez trade they lost Erik Swanson out of
the bullpen after a success season. Left fielder
Jesse Winker and Abraham Toro for Wong. Both
of them had terrible  seasons for the Mariners.
Wong a left handed hitting second baseman may
platoon with Dylan Moore.  The Mariners  hope
to pick up at least one or maybe two more bats
before spring  training.

The Washington Huskies were the second best
story under new head coach  Kalen DeBoer having
a record of 10-2 and going to  play Texas in the
Alamo Bowl on December 29. Along with DeBoer
was the quarterback   Michael Penix Jr  who led
the country in passing  and announced an oncore
coming back in 2023. At this  point  it looks his
receivers will return  too.

Pro Football  the big story was Russell Wilson  being
traded to  the Denver Broncos. The Seahawks may not
make  the playoffs after having a good time in the
middle  of  the season. They  will get the Broncos
number one pick and number two  pick in 2023.
Denver's top pick right now is at 3 going into the
final two games  of the season. Will the Seahawks
draft a quarterback in  the  first round or not. The
Seahawks could use more help on the defense
either on the line or linebacker. If they choose not
to draft a  quarterback we could see them trading
down and adding additional  draft picks.

The Seattle Kraken  didn't  make the playoffs in their
expansion season, however,  they could in 2023
as they are having a winning record. They are doing
much better especially in the third period.

Washington State Cougars had a good record in 2022
though losing in their  Bowl game.  They will be
bringing  on a new offense  and defensive coordinators.
Should no shortly.

As the Pac-12  men's basketball season  is  starting
this week neither the Huskies  or  Cougars look like
they will  have success. We hope they will surprise
us.

Look forward to  2023 where we will explore the
highs and lows of these teams along with Gonzaga.
We hope for some excitement.

Merry Christmas Everyone

The Seattle  Seahawks  had their
opportunities  but failed. The
Kansas City Chiefs played a good
defense as well.

Kansas City  24  Seattle  10

The Seahawks  didn't  get a first
down until the middle  of  the  second
quarter. The Seahawks had a good
opportunity  in the first quarter  after
the  Chiefs scored their first touchdown.
A long kickoff  return allowing the
Seahawks  to start in  Chiefs territory
however they were not even able to  get
a field goal.

Geno Smith was 25 for 40 but he was not
able to  get  first down on many occasions
both on third and fourth down.  Ken Walker
had a good  game running over 100 yards
though the Chiefs stopped him when it
counted.

The Seahawks  did a good job on the day
though giving up 24 points. The Seahawks
got their lone touchdown late in the game.
Early  4th quarter they had opportunity to
score, however Geno throw an interception.
Had the Seahawks been able to  score
the game would have been  more interesting.
Now  back to  the  drawing board. Go Hawks!

Seahawks In Kansas City

The Seahawks  play Saturday  morning Seattle
time in Kansas City.  A must win for the
Seahawks to make the playoffs. Let you
know not easy  and for your information
the last time the Seahawks won in KC
was in 1999.

The Chiefs have a record of 33-19 against
the Seahawks all-time. The Seahawks have
five wins total in KC and three were the first
three times playing them.

The Seahawks  are expected to have Ken
Walker available  for  the game. The Seahawks
to win they must be  able to  run the ball to
keep  the score low and allow Geno Smith
to pass the ball. The Seahawks will be without
Tyler Lockett  as well.  DK Metcalf and the
tight ends will need a big game too. Go Hawks!

Wooden and Smith!

Rookie cornerback Tariq Wooden , quarterback
Geno Smith along with safety
Quandre Diggs and place kicker
Jason Myers were named to
the Pro Bowl.

I would say pretty good for
a team that likely won't make
the playoffs. It shows how
good the Seahawks played
the first half of the season.
The Seahawks are 7-7 and
take on the Chiefs Christmas
Eve in Kansas City. The Seahawks have to win and
the other two remaining
games to get into the playoffs.
They could lose one game but
likely won't get in.

Diggs and Myers are both starters while Wooden and Myers are second reamers. The Seahawks have six others as alternates in case of injuries.

Wooden was drafted in the
fifth round this year out of
University of Texas San Antonio. He intercepted a
pass in four consecutive
games and was rookie of the
month in NFC for October.
Wooden is very talented
however no one expected
him to be this good this fast.

Geno Smith taking over the
quarterback position when
Russell Wilson was traded
to Denver has been a big surprise. In fact he has played
much better than Wilson. In
fact so much the Seahawks
likely will have the number
three pick in the first round for the draft pick they received in
the trade. This will come along
with their own first round pick.
The Seahawks will have a high
second round pick as well. This means they should have three
pretty good players who should start for them next season.
The Seahawks need help on
the defense so at least two
of the three picks should be
on defense. Go Hawks!

Washington Huskies Lose To Auburn

The men's basketball  team  at Washington
lost to Auburn Wednesday  night  at home
84-61.

The Huskies  once again  got off to  a slow
start though made a rally  at the end of the first
half to be down by 8 points. It was  all Auburn
after that.

Hopefully  the Huskies  have learned something.
After the Christmas  break they take on USC on
December  30. They follow to start 2023 against
UCLA.  Both games are at home so that might
be some help. The following week they play
Arizona  and  Arizona State on the road.

It will be important not to get off to a slow start
in any  of the games or go on a good run to
keep  it close.

The Huskies  right now have 9-4 record with 18
games in the Pac-12 schedule. It will be important
they get at least  9 wins for Coach Hopkins to keep
his job. Though he  has two more years remaining
on his contract another season  not making a
tournament  besides the Pac-12  could mean
the Huskies may let Hopkins  go.

The Washington State Cougars take on George Washington
Thursday night at home. The Cougars have a 4-6 record
heading into the game before starting their Pac-12 schedule.
Won't  be  easy  with some injuries to their squad. We wish
them the best to.

Caleb Presley

The Washington Huskies beat
the Oregon Ducks once again.

Cornerback Caleb Presley
originally, from Rainer's Beach,
was going to sign Wednesday
with the Oregon Ducks decided
to stay home. This gives the
Huskies four cornerbacks in
this coming class. If the Dawgs
get at least two the four to be
in the class of Gordon and McDuffie than the other teams
passing game will be shut down. One of these guys
could play the rover position
too. Important in.today's
game.

Keeping Presley home can
be a big deal for years ahead
with other Washington players
staying home and being a
Husky.

The Huskies also brought in
a transfer from Arizona State
to.play running back. We will get back to that in a day or
two.  I hope though Richard
Newton can stay healthy
and have another good season.

College Football Early Signing Day

Today is letter intent day for early
signing in college  football for incoming
season.

The Washington  Huskies  have signed
four players  who are four-star prospects
and 13 three star prospects.  The WSU
Cougars with 20 three star recruits.

In the end it doesn't  matter whether four
or three star re recruits  it depends how
the teams do during the season.

The Huskies  had a ten win season this
year after a terrible  season last year
and bringing  in  a  new coach in Kalen
DeBoer. They are  going to have Michael
Penix Jr back next year and play in the
Alamo Bowl.

The Cougars have Jack Dickert for a full
season. They had a 7-6 season.  Though
they lost  bowl game  they have played
in seven straight. They have to  hire both
offensive and defensive  coordinators
that is a good sign to.  Look to success
for both teams  next year.

Tuesday, December 20, 2022

The Seattle Kraken

The Seattle  Kraken  beat Winnipeg
Jets at home Monday  night 3-2.
The Jets are a good team so a great
victory.

The Kraken  scored two goals in the
third period  to win. Certainly  a lot
better than the expansion  team last
year who did awful in the third period.

The Kraken take on the St. Louis Blues
at home Tuesday  night followed by
playing the Canucks  Thursday night
in Vancouver  before a Christmas  break.
The Kraken  are now 17-10-3.

Wednesday  in college football is  the early
signing of incoming freshmen  and transfers.
The  Washington Huskies  have  19 commitments
so we will  see  how  many sign early.

The Washington State Cougars have had a lot
of players go through the transfer portal  so we
have to see how they do in getting players to
come to Pullman.  We wish them the best.

Mariners Monday Any New Deal?

I would be surprised the Mariners make
a deal this week, however, could surprise
us.

I know a lot of fans think the Mariners are
cheap  for not signing any free agents. The
truth is  free agents are being signed for
long contracts. I  wouldn't  have signed
Correa for 13 years. Maybe 10 years at
the most. Let's  see  what  happens.

Today  going to look at Mariners  prospects
13, 14, and 15. There is a possibility  they
could trade one of these guys as well.  I
would certainly  throw in a prospect  between
21 and 30. Unless they are a pitcher these
prospects likely  won't  make it in the majors..

#13 Alberto Rodriguez  an outfielder who
bats and throws left handed. The Mariners
picked up Alberto  from Toronto in the trade
for TiJuan Walker in 2020. In 2022 Alberto
batted .261 at Everett with 10 home runs.
See if he moves up to double-A  Arkansas
in 2023. Alberto is  22 years old so  still has
some time to flourish.

#14 Bryan Woo right handed pitcher drafted
in the sixth round in 2021 out of Cal Poly. He
had Tommy John  surgery  but the Mariners
thought well of drafting him. He spent 2022
at Everett. Could see him move up to double-A
in 2023. The talent of pitching the Mariners
have we could see him traded as a prospect.
He pitched seven games at Everett with an
era of 4.78, however,  struck out 46 batters in
32 innings.  Though he was a starter we could
see him in the bullpen at some point. He started
last season in the lower minors so could begin
2023 at Everett  before moving up to Arkansas.

# 15 Perlander Berroa the Mariners  acquired
during the season in a minor league deal with
the San Francisco Giants.  He started  his time
at Everett  where he pitched well starting 13
games before being promoted  to  Arkansas.
Berroa could be a surprise pick up for the Mariners.
Most likely  since he is 22 years old begin 2023
in Arkansas. Mariners have moved starters to the
bullpen  and he can rush it up to 98 mph we could
see him in Seattle  sometime  in 2023.

We will look at prospects 16, 17, and 18 one of
the next times. Go M's.

Husky Men Win

The Huskies men's  basketball  had their
best game of the season  beating Idaho
State 90-55.

Washington  was playing a lesser team
however came out to play from the
beginning.  Hopefully  a good sign since
their schedule  gets tougher.  Their next
game is against #19 Auburn this coming
Wednesday. Interesting  sameday as the
early  signings for incoming freshmen  in
football along with junior college players.
May even sign some from the transfer
portal.  The Huskies  are expected to sign
around 19 freshmen. Whether they do early
or not.

The Huskies  will have a Christmas  break
before facing USC with  Pac-12 to go on further.
Against  Idaho State  Keion Brooks Jr  had
only 8 points after 30 points against Cal Poly.
He did lead the Huskies  in rebounds with 10.
With Braxton Meah in the middle clears way
for Brooks  to  take down rebounds. Meah
only played 19 minute's however they were
able to get  him the ball for 12 points.

The Huskies  had a 41-22 lead at half time
that extended out to 30 points that the starters
didn't  play the last ten minutes  of the game.
Washington  was able to  give their bench
some valuable minutes.  In fact a couple players
had their first college  points.  They used 13
players  in all. During  the  Baylor game and
further on they should be going with 8 or 9
players  most of the way. Guard Noah Williams
who has missed most of the season should
be back against USC  or shortly after. Go Dawgs!

Gonzaga Wins in Bb Cougars lose in football

Gonzaga upset Alabama Saturday 100-90.
Looking at rebounds and free throws by
Alabama  you would think they would have
won the game.

Obviously  Gonzaga didn't waste  opportunities
since they took ten more shots than Alabama
and making nine more. Both shot over 50 per cent
though the  Bulldogs  greater. 3 pt shots weren't
much different  with Gonzaga making one more shot.

Drew Timme  continues  to play great ball lately
for Gonzaga. Drew had 29 points along with 10
rebounds. In all the  Bulldogs  had six players
score in double figures.

Alabama were led by Brandon  Miller with 36 but
had only  one other player in double  figures. The
reason Gonzaga won.

In the Jimmy Kimmel  Bowl Fresno State beat up
the WSU  Cougars  badly 29-6. Fresno  State had
501 total yards while Cougars had 181 yards. They
were  outdominated on running and passing.

The Cougars  were outmatched a lot to do with
players who decided  to  go through  the transfer
portal.  My opinion the transfer portal should open
after the bowl season is over not the regular season.
If the players figure they will  transfer and want to
set out the bowl games fine but not fair to  the players
who are staying  and had a fine season.  This might not
affected a lot of teams  but certainly  did the Cougars.

I  am  sure with how the Pac-12  will  be in the future
and effect teams like the Cougars and Oregon State
could be a  reason some of the players left. Still
don't  know  whether Washington Huskies  and or Oregon
will be part of the conference after USC and UCLA leave
for Big 10. UCLA  will be a big deal in basketball well as
football.  USC  doesn't  have  the same tradition in basketball
as they do in football.

WSU vs Fresno State

The  Cougars will be taking  on Fresno
State in the Jimmy Kimmel Bowl Saturday
afternoon  on ABC.

This should be a game of two teams
passing the ball. Expect both teams
to establish  the run before throwing
all over the place.

Fresno State  quarterback  should be
Jake  Haener in his last game college
game. Cameron Ward will go for the
Cougars. Should be exciting to watch.

College men's basketball the Cougars
play at Baylor  on  Sunday. Won't be easy
for Washington State to win the game.

The Washington Huskies  play Idaho State
Saturday night.

Gonzaga takes on Alabama  on Saturday  morning
at home.  Should be exciting game to watch.

Seahawks Suffer Loss

The Seahawks  really needed to
win to keep  their hopes alive to
make the playoffs instead  lost
to the SF 49ers 21-13.

Most if the game the Seahawk
offense was awful. They kicked
a field goal in the second one and
third quarters then finally scored
a touchdown with just over 3 minutes
left in the game.

The  49ers  were able to run a long
one to help run out the clock. Had
the defense been able to  stop  the
49ers they may have had a shot.

The Seahawks  are now 7-7 with
three games remaining. The chances
are not great they really have to  win
all three games to have a chance.

The next  game is against the Chiefs
in Kansas City. If you know  history
against  the  Chiefs the Seahawks
haven't  done well against them
on their home field.

The Seahawks  have  Denver's number one
pick which will  be  high and at this point
they should choose high for their own pick.
We will  see what they do with their two
high draft picks.

Thursday Night Football

Remind you the Seahawks  take on
the SF 49ers Thursday  night.

It looks like Ken Walker III is expected
to play. Do hope this will improve the
running game. The 49ers do have a
good defense so we have to see.

Not sure who the 49ers will have at
quarterback. Purdy isn't  expected to
play. This could be a close game. The
Seahawks  though have to stop the
run and the 49ers will run. Not doing
so could be a long game.

The Mariners are reported  to have
two trades in hand for outfielders.
We see and update if either  or both
go through. In both trades we will
see prospects moving on from Seattle.

Washington Huskies Win Tuesday

The Washington  Huskies  men's  basketball
team beat Cal Poly Tuesday night at home
74-68. This was after losing to Gonzaga
last Friday. They now have a record of 8-3.

This is like most of the Huskies wins
where they had to come from behind.
They were down by 11 at halftime  and
down as much as 15 points.

The Huskies can do this again teams
they are expected to beat, however,
teams like Gonzaga and in the Pac-12
it is hard to  do so.

A major reason  is they don't have a
lot of scoring. Tuesday they were able
to since their top player  Keion Brooks
Jr had a career high 30 points in the
game. Cole Bajema 13 points and center
Braxton Meah  had 11.

The Huskies lost Langston Wilson in the
first half to injury. Not sure how long he
will be out. Also, starter PJ Fuller  went
out in the second half. Also, Jamal Bey
was limited  to  minutes as well. Brooks,
Bajema and Meah played over 30 minutes.

The Huskies next game will be on Saturday
at home against Idaho State.

The Washington State Cougars next action is
on Sunday after losing last again UNLV against
Baylor.

Gonzaga  beat Northern Illinois  on Monday
88-67. They had another  great game from
Drew Timme who had 26 points. He certainly
on a roll. The Bulldogs play 5th ranked Alabama
this Saturday.  Timme will have  to  play another
great game for Gonzaga to win.

RIP Mike Leach

If you hadn't  heard  former Washington
State  ougar and Mississippi State
head coach Mike Leach passed away
Monday after complications coming
from a heart attack.  He was only 61.

Mike Leach  was loved by his family
and those who were Cougar fans
well as Mississippi  State. He was
one you loved or not care  much for.
One thing he spoke what he believed
in.

One thing lives on is his air raid offense.
Also, his wife Sharon,  four children and
the grand children to. Rest in peace and
hope to see you on the other side.

Mariners Monday

Not much happened  for the Mariners
during the winter  meetings  besides
picking up players in the Rule 5 draft.

Now this being a new week maybe we
will see a move happen. It would be nice
before the  holidays and the New Year.

Right now it looks like Dylan Moore will
get a lot of playing time. I am  not against
it for his defense but would like a better bat.

Yes another infielder and outfielder  would
be nice. Also, I  like for the Mariners to pick
up another catcher  who could dh and play
first base as well.  Not sure there is any out
there but a good wish. I  am  sure we will
see Cal Raleigh  dh on occasion. I  wouldn't
mind three catchers on the roster as long as
one can hit besides Raleigh which I know is
hard to ask for. Not many catchers can hit.

The Seattle  Kraken ended  their little losing
streak beating Florida Panthers 5-2 on Sunday.
They scored three goals in the third period. A
lot better than last season.  They take on the
Lightning in Tampa Bay  on Tuesday.  Go Kraken!

Seahawks Upset

The Seattle were upset
more ways than one.
The Carolina Panthers
beat them 30-24.

The game wasn't that close as Geno Smith threw a touchdown
with little time left in the game.
Seahawks tried an onside kick
which Panthers were able recover to nail the victory.

The Panthers basically won the game because they could run
the ball and the Seahawks didn't.  The Seahawks were without rookie Ken Walker III and Dee Jay Dallas. Travis Homer did most of the carrying
the ball while Tony Jones had
one opportunity. Unfortunately
Homer had 26 yards. Gino Smith  carried for 20 yards.

Gino Smith threw for 264 with
three touchdowns and two
interceptions. For the Seahawks to win any of the
remaining games they must
be able to run some of the
time. They can't rely on Gino.
They have to stop the opposition to.

Oh by the way this was the Panthers first win on the
road in thirteen months.
The first half of the season
the Seahawks looked like
they would make the playoffs.
Injuries to the backfield hard
to see it go that way now.

The Denver Broncos lost to Kansas City Chiefs as expected though closer to. Now the Seahawks have the second
overall pick from the Broncos.

We will see where the Seahawks will go in next week. The Seahawks actually play
the SF 79 Thursday night. Now
it looks like the Seahawks
have to win to make playoofs

Cougars Lose In Vegas

It isn't  easy  to win  on  the  road especially
against  a good  team. The Cougars have
injuries  as well.,The starters all played
over 30 minutes.

Final Score. UNLV 74  WSU  70

What kept the Cougars in the game
was fine three point shooting over 50 per
cent and making six more than  the opponent.

The Cougars  also outrebounded UNLV
30 to 22 as well.  Though the Cougars
didn't  win they do have  hope despite
the loss and injuries. UNLV has started
the season 10-0.

The Cougars  play next Sunday so have
a rest and practice  time before playing
Baylor. This will give them another high
test before the Pac-12 season begins.
Go Cougs!

Gonzaga and the Seahawks

What most fans for both teams
Gonzaga beat the Washington
Huskies 77-60 Friday night in
Spokane.

It was the first time  in three
years the two teams had met
because  of covid-19.

The game as close early with
tough defense on both sides.
The Bulldogs  pulled away in
the late first half leading by
ten and never looked back.

It was a good test for both
teams. The  Huskies lack
a steady  offense so Gonzaga
was able to go on a run.

Drew Timme  who grew up
in Spokane  had a great game
against their in state rival
leading the Bulldogs with
22 points. It was his defense
that was a big surprise. He
made some great moves early
on for Gonzaga  to pull away.

The Seattle Seahawks  are 3.5
favorites over Carolina Panthers
at home on Sunday.

Not a great indorsement since the
Panthers are having a horrible
season.

The Seahawks  look like they will
be missing  both Ken Walker III
and Dee Jay Dallas for the game.
It looks like Tony Jones Jr will start
the game at running back. Jones
has spent most of the season on
the practice squad  after being picked
up early  on in the season on waivers
from New Orleans.

Travis  Homer is expected  to return
so he and Jones will share the load
at running  back. Depending on their
success or lack of we could see Geno
Smith throwing the ball a lot. We hope
that doesn't  happen. We know Geno
can throw but we want to see a balance
attack at the same time.  Go Hawks!

Look at Local College Basketball This Weekend

The Washington  Huskies  and Gonzaga meet
on Friday  night.  Washington  tries to keep on
their winning ways after beating  Colorado last
Sunday. Gonzaga looks to get back to winning
after a few recent losses. Despite the losses
Gonzaga should be favored to win. For one
they are a better team.

The Huskies  lost onenof their two centers for
the season. They look for one of their other
posts players Langston Wilson or Jackson
Grant  to step up. The Huskies  have used
four guards  as well  in the game at the same
time to.  Though they will do so I am sure
coach Hopkins  would like play out of the
post players.

Next week the Huskies  have two games
against teams they should beat than play
Baylor on December  21st before taking
Christmas  break.  After the  break the
Huskies  begin their Pac-12 schedule
against USC on December 30.

Gonzaga on the other hand next week
have two games followed by two the
following.  They do take a short break
for Christmas.  They begin their league
play on December  31st against Pepperdine.

The Washington  State  Cougars  beat
Northern Kentucky  on  Wednesday. They
play UNLV on Saturday. They don't play
again until  December  18 against Baylor
followed by George Washington on the
22nd. They have another  break and begin
their Pac-12  schedule  against UCLA on
December  30.

Besides the bowl games the Huskies and
Cougars are playing  in  signing of incoming
freshmen  begins on December 15. Also the
transfer portal  has begun as well. We will
see who  both lose and gain.

Another Shortstop Off

Wednesday evening news broke former Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts
signed 11 year $280 million
deal with the San Diego.

Say again more money than
the Mariners would be willing
to sign him. Bogaerts is 30
years old so I doubt he will
play until 41 years old.

Had the Mariners signed
Bogaerts he most likely
would have played the outfield
with an occasion at shortstop
along with second and third
base. Also, once in a while
at dh.

The thing is never know whether he will get hurt during
those 11 years. Of course, put
out an insurance policy.

The Mariners still can use an
outfielder so where will they
go? They still have Chris Flexen
and Marco Gonzales to trade
with adding some prospects
to. See what may happen
Thursday.

Mitch Haniger Moving On

Tuesday Mitch Haniger signed
a three year around $42.5
million with the San Francisco
Giants. Now he will be a teammate of Aaron Judge who looks to have signed a large contract with Giants as well.

I am not sure of the Giants
outfield but I expect Haniger
and Judge will dh some as
well as playing the outfield.
It will be interesting to see where they bat in the lineup.

Now who will the Mariners
sign for the outfield.

Tuesday, December 6, 2022

Mariners Tuesday

Have you heard Trea Turner
signed a 11 year contract
for $300 million with the
Philadelphia Phillies. Whether
out of the Mariners way or
not but he isn't worth it. At
least Julio will be in his prime
when his contract ends.

Do you want the Mariners sign
one of the other free agent
shorstops? The Mariners would
have to trade JP Crawford if
it happens unless the free agent plays all over the place.

Ryan Davish of the Seattle
Times believes the Mariners
need to get a corner infielder
to backup both Eugenio Suarez
and Ty France. Not sure Evan
White will be healthy or Ty
France stays healthy. Sign
one of the remaining shortstops would take care
ofc it.

The Mariners need another
outfielder. Will we see Mitch
Haniger return or pickup Bryan
Reynolds from the Pittsburgh
Pirates who Dipoto has tried
for several years or one of
the other free agents. Go M's
a guy like

Husky Center Out For Season

Franck Kepnang who was coming off
the bench for the Huskies and was
injured against Oregon  State  will be
out the rest of the season.

Tough situation  Kepnang  who
transfered to Washington  from Oregon
was having a good season.  Though
he was coming off the bench he was
playing more minutes  then starter
Braxton Meah a transfer from Fresno
State. They were a good combo.

Since Kepnang was injured  Meah
continued to  start against  Colorado
however the Huskies  often  gone with
four guards. When doing so Keion
Brooks Jr has played the post much
of the time.

After Kepnang  was injured Langston
Wilson  played some up front as well
against Oregon State. In the last game
Jackson Grant saw ten minutes against
Colorado.

Depending  on  the  opponenent we could
see more of both Wilson and Grant down
in the post when Meah isn't  playing. Noah
Williams is expected  back soon so this
will give the Huskies more experience in
guard position. The Huskies have been
playing both freshmen Keyon Menifield
and Koren Johnson. Early on Keyon was
playing well but now Koren has been playing
more lately.

Cole Bajema  though listed as a guard is the
tallest of the guards so he is like playing more
the small  forward spot. He has been playing
well right now  he is the second best player
on the Huskies to Brooks.  Hopefully things
won't drop off with losing Kepnang. Go Dawgs!

Penix will Return to UW

Sunday night the Huskies had their football
awards dinner. At the end quarterback Michael
Penix Jr announced he will return instead of
going to  the NFL  early.  That is great news
for the school.

The next question  what is the future for
Sam Huard  and Dylan  Morris  at Washington.
Will they both go through the transfer portal?
It certainly  would make sense for Morris
while Huard could go either way.

If both players  go then they will  need another
quarterback  to fill the spot of backup in case
Penix  gets hurt.

The Huskies do have two players  going through
the transfer  portal.  One is Cameron Williams who
started  as a safety  when he was a safety. His
playing time  got thinner as time went by. With
DeBoer  became  less and after game four this
year he didn't play at all so he could have another
year of eligibility. We wish him the best.

Seahawks and Huskies Men's close wins and more

The Seahawks and Huskies
win close games while
Cougars lose close. Gonzaga
lost to Baylor

The Seahawks beat Rams 27-23 despite LA having players
missing. The Seahawks did
have some players sick with
flu this week though.

Seahawks had three touchdowns and two field
goals while the Rams had two
touchdowns and three field goals.

The Seahawks had a hard time
stopping the Rams running
game at 171 yards though
Geno Smith threw for 363 yards, the three touchdowns
and one interceptions. There
were times the Seahawks
offense was out of sync.

The Seahawks lost Ken Walker
as well. Walker did well before
injured. Dee Jay Dallas took
over running for ten carries
and 37 yards. There is a good
chance the Seahawks will
miss Walker next week.

Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf
each had a touchdown with
Metcalf's coming late in the
game for the difference. In fact
only 35 seconds remaining
in the game. After a sack the
Rams had to go for it on 4th
down and linebacker Cody
Barton intercepted the pass
to seal it.

The Seahawks play the Carolina Panthers next week. The Panthers are not having a good season. The Seahawks now at
7-5 and second place behind
SF 49ers.

In other football news the Huskies will be playing Texas
in the Alamo on Dec. 29. Utah
will play Penn State in Rose.
UCLA in Sun Bowl game.
USC plays Tulane in Cotton
Bowl. The WSU Cougars face
Fresno State in the Jimmy
Kimmel LA Bowl.

In college basketball the
Huskies beat Colorado at
home 73-63. The Huskies
had a good first half for
a change even leading
which they have done a lot
so far. They take on Gonzaga
who.lost to Baylor on Friday.
The Buffaloes came close
late in the game but couldn't
overtake the Huskies.

The Huskies were led by center
Braxton Meah and Cole Bajema
each with 16 points. Keion
Brooks Jr had 14. The Huskies
went a lot with four guards
when Meah wasn't in the game.
Jackson Grant played ten minutes in the post too. He
didn't score any points however had a couple rebounds.

Washington State came up
short losing to Utah 67-65
in overtime. They did come
back being down by eight
at half time. Mouhamed
Gueye led the Cougars with
20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Cougars are now 0-2 in
Pac12 play while the Huskies
are 1-1. The Cougars play
Northern Kentucky on Wednesday.

Gonzaga lost to Baylor Friday
on a tight game 64-63. The
Bulldogs last three games
have been close only beating
Xavier last Sunday by two.
They take on Kent State at
home Monday night before
facing the Huskies at home
on Friday.

This is Sunday rap up.

Sunday Sports

The Seattle Seahawks play
the Rams today. If they lose
I would say that is it for the
playoffs. The Rams are missing all their top players.

The Seattle Kraken lost 5-1
Saturday night however they
had won seven in a row which
is a good thing.

Washington Huskies play Colorado today while the
Cougars take on Utah. Huskies start an hour before the Seahawks so can watch first
half and see how it goes. The Cougars play same time as
Seahawks.

Will the Mariners do anything
today in trade or free agent
signing. Need another outfielder. Additional relief
pitcher and catcher be nice
to back up Cal.

Pac-12 Championship Game a Downer

Being a Washington  Huskies  fan
the Pac-12  championship game
on Friday  night in Las Vegas looked
like the Huskies would go to the Rose
Bowl.

In the first quarter or so the USC Trojans
looked like they would win the game
easily  being ahead 17-3. Utah who won
last year as well  had nothing to  lay down
about.

The Utes have had great games especially
in the second and third quarters. This game
was no exception. They tied the game at halftime
17-17. The third quarter the Utes led 24-17.

Instead  of  roaring  back in the 4th quarter the
USC  Trojans  really fell apart with turnovers
and the Utes taking advantage. The final score
was 47-24.

Now the Huskies  won't  go to the Rose Bowl.
Neither should the Trojans in my opinion
anyway.  Were they overrated or what?  I
would send the Utes if the Huskies can't go.
Now we will see where the Huskies land in
a bowl  game.  Stay  tuned!

Winker and Toro Moving On

The Seattle Mariners make trade Friday before the Winter
Meetings trading Jesse Winker
and Abraham Toro to the
Milwaukee Brewers for second
baseman Kolten Wong.

My opinion the Brewers should
give the Mariners whatever they
want since they stole the Seattle Pilots after the 1969
season. Wong will be an upgrade at 2nd base. Winker
had a poor season in 2022
and so did Toro though he had
some good hits with homers.
I hope Toro is able to find his
talent in Milwaukee. The Mariners though came out
good acquiring Eugenio Suarez
though he wasn't the major
player in the trade.

We hope Suarez will do well
until someone in the minors
comes up or the Mariners able
to sign or trade for another
3rd baseman.

Though the Mariners may fill
the outfield or not who will be
the major dh in the upcoming
season. The Mariners don't
have Winker or Carlos Santana
or Kyle Lewis any longer.

If you look at the roster right
now Cooper Hummel could dh along with being a backup outfielder and catcher. They still have Tom Murphy but he
is still on the injured list. We
could see the Mariners pick
up another catcher in the
next few weeks.

There is more but talk later
about it.

Andy McKay has been promoted to assistant general
manager. The work he has
done with the minor league
players is amazing.

On Thursday the Mariners
hired his replacement as head
of player development in Justin
Tools who was Cleveland's
hitting analyst.

The question still is Mitch Haniger returns or they go
after another outfielder. I
would not stand just for
Jarred Kelenic. The Mariners
can use extra guys at dh.
We still don't know Kelenic
or Taylor Trammel future looks
like though they have the talent
still.

Huskies and Cougars Men Both Lose

The opening games for the Huskies
and Cougars were not good Thursday
Night.

For the Huskies  it was more injuries
then the game. Both centers were lost
so down to eight scholarship  players.
Meah didn't  play in the game at all
while Franck Kepnang was hurt during
the game. Not sure how long he will
be out while  Meah is day to day.

The Huskies  lost 66-65 to Oregon State.
Keion Brooks Jrmissed a shot at the  buzzer.
The Huskies had to come back from an 18
point deficit.Like often they get off to a
terrible start.

When Kepnang left the  game they went
with four guards and Brooks  in the post.
Freshmen  Johnson and Menifield along
with PJ Fuller and Jamal Bay. We may see
more of them together  since brought them
back to have a chance.

The Cougars on the other hand lost to the
Oregon Ducks 74-60. The game was tied
32-32 at halftime. Ducks then took control.

Both the Huskies and  Cougars show it could
be a long season this year in pac-12.

News came out that the Huskies may go
independent on Thursday.  Not sure just
football or not. Heard to the Oregon Ducks
may do the same. The Huskies may sign
a TV contract with NBC and or Prime Video.
Stay tuned!

Pac-12 Basketball Begins

Though the Pac-12 games
really begin in January they
have early games now starting.

The Huskies take on the Oregon State Beavers Thursday
night in Corvallis. They follow
with Colorado on Sunday.

Though they have only one loss in November the Huskies have
played sluggish at times. Keion
Roberts Jr is the leading scorer
and go to guy. How he does
against Pac-12 schools will
say whether the Huskies have
success or not.

Washington State Cougars lost
a couple games early however
doing better now. They take on
Oregon on Thursday night. They follow with Utah.

The Cougars have two transfers Jane Mullins from
St. Mary's and Justin Powell
from Tennessee. How these
two can play in the Pac-12
will tell a lot about the Cougars
success. They both will need
to àverage in double figures
for the Cougars to have success.

Let you know how both teams
come out in their first game.

Friday night USC and Utah
playing the championship
game. USC wins the Huskies
will play in the Rose Bowl.
Though you might not like
it Cougar fans but I would be
rooting for the Trojans to.
The Huskies play in the Rose
Bowl the Cougars will play
in a better bowl game themselves. You don't want
the Cougars to play in the
toilet bowl do you. Lol

Gonzaga and the Mariners

Gonzaga men's basketball team might not
be as good as anticipated losing to Purdue
84-66 last Friday.  They responded back
with a win on Sunday 88-84 over Xavier.
They are now ranked #14 after being number
2.

Gonzaga plays Baylor on Friday on the  road.
They  will  have to show what they have to be
a national  contender this season.

In baseball the Winter Meetings  begin this
weekend.  Will the Mariners  sign a free agent
or make a trade at the meetings or before.
They have been silent though sure they are
talking. Not much news on Mitch Haniger so
does mean that he will be back or not? The Mariners
certainly  have to pick up another if not.

The Mariners  do have three pitchers listed between
ten and twenty  of their top 30 prospects. Generally
position  players  don't  make the majors after the
top ten. Interesting  though outfielder Cade Marlowe
who was on the extra squad for the playoffs in case
of injuries  is listed as the Mariners  #21 prospect.
This must mean they have some pretty good position
prospects ahead of him.

The trade of lefty Adam Macko to the Toronto Blue
Jay's prospects have moved up. Recently I  have written
about top ten including Macko. Now I  will give the new #10
and 11.  #10 is Lazaro Montes an outfielder from Cuba.
He is 18 so a few years before seeing him. Lazaro considered
the number 8 in the international pool the Mariners signed
in January.  In his first pro season in Dominican summer league
Lazaro hit .284 and showed some power with 10 home runs.
He does hit left handed so keep his name for T-Mobile Park
in several years.

#11 is infielder Michael  Arroyo who signed as international player
this year as well. He batted .314 with 4 home runs in the Dominican.
Both players could be playing in  the USA  this year. Possibly at
Low level A Modesto.

Any trades the Mariners  do make could a top prospect or two.

Huskies Men Basketball

The Huskies beat city rival
Seattle University Monday
Night 77-66 in there annual
contest.

The Huskies got off to a good
start however let Seattle back
into the game. The RedHawks
were leading at half time 40-38.

Though the Huskies are 7-1
most of the games they have
been down by a few points
at halftime. The RedHawks
had a eight point lead in second
half before the Huskies started
to score.

Keion Brooks Jr led the Huskies
with 20 points.  Center Braxton Mean had his best offense outing having 18 points. Seattle
had no one to stop him.

Cole Bajema had a good first half leading to him having
16 points. Cole is starting in
place of Noah Williams who
has missed the last six games.
Cole likely be the first player off
the bench when Williams returns.

Jamal Bey scored in double figures with 10. It will be important for Bey to score
in double figures for Huskies
success.

The Huskies play Oregon State
on Thursday. This will show
whether the non-league games
have helped the Huskies or not
though they have been inconsistent. Go Dawgs

Seahawks Lose In Overtime

The Seahawks  lost for the second time
in a row. This time  to the Las Vegas
Raiders 40-34 in overtime.

The Seahawks  haven't  played well in
their last two games. I  wonder having
a bye didn't  help or were they playing
above their heads. Losing at home
didn't  help matters either.

Ken Walker  had a hard time  running
the ball though  he had two touchdowns
and the Seahawks  couldn't stop the
run including the final play of the game
when the Raiders ran for an 84 yard to.

Now time for the Seahawks get back
to the drawing board. The Seahawks
are on the road playing the Rams in
LA and then Carolina Panthers at home.
Both teams are having horrible seasons
so those games will  tell us more about
the Hawks.

In Hockey  the Kraken keep on winning
this time over the Anaheim Ducks on the
road 5-4. The Kraken  got off to a good
start scoring  three goals in the first period
however let the Ducks back in the game in
the second. The Kraken  though scored for
the win in the 3rd period. Tuesday night play
the Kings in LA before coming home.

The Kraken now are 13-5-3 and solid in second
place in Pacific division. Right now they look
to make the playoffs. Not bad for a second
year team. I  will  keep you up to date.

Huskies Win

The first three quarter it
was a tight game. The
Cougars looked like they
may win. The score was
Huskies 35-33.

The Cougars have problems
often scoring in the 4th quarter
and this game was no different.

The Huskies scored 16 points.
Michael Penix Jr had another
good game throwing for 484
yards and three touchdowns.

The offensive line was able
to keep Penix from having
to hurry most of the night.

Now the Huskies have to wait
to see who they play in a bowl
game. With ten wins it should
be a pretty good one. Stay tuned!

Kraken Saturday

As the local sports fan is getting ready
for the Apple  Cup Saturday night
I  figured say something  about the Kraken.

They beat the Vegas Golden Knights for
the first time in their short history on Friday
night in Vegas 4 to 2.

The Kraken  took the early lead and the
Golden Knights tied in the first period
2-2. The second period  the Kraken  scored
the final two goals and no goals by either
team.

The Kraken  controlled the time of possession.
Phillipp Grubauer started at goalie for the
first time since being injured early on in the
season.  We will  see when he sees action
again. It was an impressive win on the road
and the Golden Knights  lead the Pacific
division  withe Kraken  in the second spot.

The Seattle Mariners  when will they strike
again in a trade or signing a free agent.  Will
they sign someone not expected like they did
last year with Robbie Ray. Hopefully  with better
results in the first year. I  am  sure  everyone
expects better results  from  Ray in his second
year just like Jesse Winker  if he still is with
the team.

I do hope the Mariners  do something  this week.
Still  not sure  Mitch Haniger  will be back or not.
Both the Angels  and  Rangers are interested along
with some other teams. A lot will  depend what those
teams are offering  and whether  the Mariners want
to give more. Possibly  Mitch may want a new start.

Gonzaga WSU UW

All three of the top men's
teams in Washington basketball have all won
this week.

Gonzaga beat Portland State
on Thanksgiving 102 -78.
They take on Purdue Friday
Night. The Boilermakers are
4-0 and ranked #24 so maybe a close game. We will see.

Gonzaga had six players
score in double figures with
Malachi Smith come off the
bench with 23 points. They
play Baylor next Friday night.
If they win these two games
they should continue have
an outstanding season.

The Cougars ended a two game losing streak beating Eastern
Washington on Monday 82-56 then Detroit Friday 96-54. The
Cougars take on Oregon Ducks
next Thursday. See how they
against Pac-12.

I am sure the Cougars are
looking to the Apple Cup tomorrow night as well the
Huskies. Expect this to be a
close one.

The Huskies beat St Mary's
Thursday night in championship of the Legacy
Wooden. Nothing to brag
about since they had 25 turn
overs in overtime.
Washington 68 St. Mary's 64
Keion Roberts Jr led Huskies
with 14 points along with
11 rebounds. He was named
MVP of the tournament.

The Huskies play Seattle U
on Monday then face Oregon
State Thursday night. The
Huskies will need to start
faster and cut down on
turnovers on Monday night
before facing the Beavers.

This could be a long year for
the Huskies. Possible for
Cougs to but give them a
better chance. Not sure
Hopkins will survive for
next season.

Washington Huskies BB Win

The Washington Huskies
won Wednesday night in the Wooden Legacy Classic
62-57 over Fresno State.

It wasn't a very good game
for either team. The Huskies
had to overcome a shaky
start which they do often.
They missed their first
eight shots. Fresno State
led 8-0 before they made
their first shot. In fact Fresno
State wasn't shooting that
good either.

Keion Brooks Jr was the
only Husky to score in
double figures with 16 points.
He didn't have a good shooting
night going 4 for 15 from
the field. He did make all
seven of his foul shots.
Everyone else on Huskies
shit terrible at the line and
I am being kind.

The Huskies went on a 14
point run at the beginning
of the second half after being
behind 28-27 at the half.

The Huskies take on St.Mary's
who beat Vanderbilt 75-65.
The Huskies will have to get
off to a better start or they
will be blown out. In fact that
is how their season will go
against good teams.

Best to the Huskies on
Thanksgiving. They return
home to play Seattle University
on Monday to end November.

Happy Thanksgiving Sports Fans

Here in Washington  sports has been
good this year. The Mariners made it to
the playoffs in twenty  years and could
have beaten  the WS champions.

Now the question  is will they sign
one of the top  four  shortstop or
trade for a second baseman.  Wouldn't
it be nice to be  done today.

The Seahawks are doing better  than
we thought and may make the playoffs
and have a high first round draft pick
from Denver.

Both the Huskies and Cougars  are  having
a better than expected season.  Tuesday
the Huskies signed Kalen DeBoer to an extension
through 2028.

The Seattle Kraken are having a winning season
so far with  winning record at 10-5-3.

Happy  Thanksgiving  everyone. 😊😊👍👍

Gonzaga Wins

The Gonzaga Bulldogs  got back on
their winning  ways Sunday  after
losing to  Texas in their previous
game.

The Bulldogs  beat #4 Kentucky
88-72. It is good news to know the
best team in Washington wins.

My opinion  the Huskies especially
but the Cougars to should be better
than they have been. They should
follow the Bulldogs  way of recruiting.
The state of Washington  do have a lot
of good basketball  players and enough
to be on all three teams. The Bulldogs
go nationally  and  internationally.

The Bulldogs  had four of their five
starters  in double figures scoring.
They were led by guard Rasir Bolton
with 24 points. Team leader on the
season Drew Timme  had 22.

Julian Strawther number two on the
team had 20. He led the team in rebounding
with 14. Anton Watson had 10 paints
and 10 rebounds.

Over the season  let you know a bit more
about each starter  player. Go with the
Bulldogs  player of the game.

On the Kentucky side they got off to a
slow start  getting behind as much as 18
points in the first half. Thet tried but
couldn't  get back into the game. Another
concern is their rebounding.  Kentucky
always  have  McDonald  All-American players
on their and the concern is not enough basketballs
around to satisfy them. Other words not enough
teamwork.

Maybe the Bulldogs will see Kentucky again in
the NCAA  tournament in March. Go Bulldogs!

Good Wins In Football and Hockey

The Washington  State  Cougars  began
Saturday with first win of the day beating
Arizona 31-20.

The Cougars got off to a good start
scoring 21 of the 31 points in the first
half. Arizona had only six in the first
half.

The Cougars got their remaining ten
points in the 3rd qtr. They were shutout
in the 4th as Arizona tried a comeback
scoring two touchdowns.

The Huskies  ended up  beating Colorado
54-7. The  Huskies  scored 33 points in
the first half with four touchdowns and a
safety followed by a field goal to end the half.

The Huskies played reserves for the last quarter
and a half. Dylan Morris  came in for Penix.
With fresh legs Morris  did some running as well
as passing  including  a  touchdown to Sam Adams.

Now the Cougars and Huskies plan for the Apple Cup
for next Saturday.  The Huskies  want to avenge the
loss from last year  while the Cougars want to spoil
the Huskies fine season.  Both teams will go to bowl
games. What games will depend on the fate of the
Apple Cup.

The Seattle  Kraken beat LA Kings at home 3-2 in
overtime. The Kraken  scored the first goal in the
first period  than the Kings tied in the second. Both
teams had a goal in the third.

The Kraken  now have ten wins on the season.

More Happening With Mariners

The trade sending  Kyle Lewis to
Arizona  for catcher Cooper Hummel
meant that Luis Torrens  was non-tendered.

This means Torrens is now a freeagent.
He has had his ups and downs since
arriving in  Seattle  with Ty France and
Taylor  Trammell.

Torrens was non-tendered since he is eligible
for arbitration at the amount of $1.2 million.
Jerry  Dipoto said if Torrens isn't  signed
by another team he will asked to be a  non-roster
invitee to training camp.

Also, catcher Brian O'Keefe who played most
of the season  at Tacoma and pitcher Luke
Weaver were non-tendered as well. The Mariners
40-man roster  now is at 37.

Rumors are Mitch Haniger may sign with the
Angels if he doesn’t with the Mariners. Another
good reason to  have  him back. The Angels
are said to sign Haniger  three years at $13 million
per year. I  go for it. Won't  want to see Mitch
end up winning  games against  the Mariners.

Kyle Lewis To Arizona

We wondered what the
Mariners were going to
do with Kyle Lewis since
they sent him to Tacoma.
Early on when called up
last year he did well but
couldn't stay healthy.
September he wasn't called up.

The Mariners must feel he
will never totally healthy
so they traded him to the
Arizona Diamondback's
on Thursday for Cooper
Hummel a catcher/outfielder.

Last year he played 66 games
for Arizona as a rookie. Not
quite the numbers of Lewis.
I hope the Mariners are able
to use him in a backup role
in outfield and catcher. Lewis
I hope gets healthy enough
where he can be used as a
dh. We see the talent in him.

Now for the Mariners will
they send Murphy or Torrens
somewhere for another piece.
We could hear about another trade soon too. Wong second
baseman who will be free agent next year.

Heard Adam Frazier may sign
with Angels. Haniger to as well if he doesn't resign with the
Mariners. Hernandez will play
right if Haniger is not back or
left field.  Stay tuned!

Washington BB Lose

Not a good week  for  instate
college  basketball.  The Huskies
lost to California  Baptist at
home Thursday  night 73-64.

The Huskies  did have Keion
Brooks Jr back for this one
after missing a couple games.
He and PJ Fuller each had 11
points. The Huskies were led by
center Franck Kepnang with 16.

The difference  in the game
California  Baptist did better
in making more 3 point shots
and foul shots.

This year's  version  of the Huskies
are going more to the basket than
trying  to rely on 3 point  shots.
The Huskies  are now 4-2 a better
start than last year.

The Huskies  next home game is
next Wednesday  against Fresno State.

The Huskies football team take on
Colorado  at home Saturday  night
at 6. Colorado  not good  so should
be a high scoring game for Huskies.

WSU and Gonzaga Both Lose

Washington  State Cougars and Gonzaga
both lose on the road.

It was the second loss in a row for the
Cougars. It is never easy to win on the
road.

Final Prairie  View 70  WSU  59
The game took place Tuesday
Second loss in a row both on the
road.

Cougars had a tough first half
scoring 27 points while giving
up  41. Did a little  bit better in
second half  but not enough
to get close to winning.

Cougars next game will be on
the road against Eastern Washington
next  Monday. See if they can get
a win or may have a long season.

Gonzaga  lost to the #11 ranked
Texas Longhorns  93-74. Not a
close game and Texas fans were
noisy which doesn't help either.

The Longhorns  scored 47 points
in first half and 46 in the second
while Gonzaga  scored 37 in each
half. Gonzaga will play Kentucky
on Sunday.

Kentucky  lost this week to Michigan
State so both teams  will look to get
back on their winning ways.

Gonzaga had 20 turnovers  compared
to 10 by Texas. Something  they will
have to improve against Kentucky.

Mariners Make First Splash

It sounded like Chris Flexen was going to Toronto for
Teoscar Hernandez. Instead
they traded reliever Erik
Swanson and number 8
prospect Adam Macko.

The Mariners have now a plus
in the outfield. We have to see
whether there are able to resign Mitch Haniger or not. If not likely will be in Haniger's spot
in the lineup.

Thirdbaseman/ first base Tyler
Locklear moved up from nine to.eight in the trade. Tyler was
drafted this year and spent
most time at Modesto where
he hit .282 had seven home
runs. Estimated to make majors in 2026.

Number nine prospect is
outfielder Zach DeLoach
second round pick in 2020.
He had 14 home runs this
year at double A Arkansas.
We could see him in Seattle
during the 2023 season
unless the Mariners decide
to trade him.

That's it for now. See anything come up from the Mariners.

A Mariners Moment

Scott Servais  was third in the voting
for manager of the year which went
to Cleveland's manager. You think
making the playoffs  for the first
time in 20 years and almost making
it to the World Series would have
made Servais  the logical choice.

I guess since they were in a weak division
outside the World champions might  make
sense.

I  guess we won’t  hear about anymore
rookie of the year awards since Julio
got them all. Congratulations Julio!

There are rumors  of trading Chris Flexen
and I  am  sure could be the first one to
come down. Jerry Dipoto  always finds
a way to surprise us though technically
he isn't  general manager anymore though
I  am  sure has to ok the trade.

The latest rumor is Flexen  going to Toronto
for outfielder  Teoscar Hernandez outfielder.
He primarily  would play  in  left field  but
can play center if Julio  needs a day off.
He batted .267 with 25 home runs and 77
runs batted in. He bats right handed and just
turned 30. Has been with Toronto for five
full seasons. The Mariners would have to
add another player  to  get Hernandez. Most
likely  a prospect.

Speaking  of  prospects  the Mariners added
four minor leaguers  to  the  40-man roster.
This keeps  the  four from being eligible for
the rule five draft which comes up soon.

Anyway that is it for right now on the Mariners.
I will give top prospects nine and ten soon.

Huskies Men Win Again

The Huskies were without  Keion Brooks Jr
and Noah Williams  for the second game in
a row.

They beat Dixie State 78-67. The game was
a lot like their last outing  having to  come
from behind in the second half.

Before the game Coach Hopkins  said the
chemistry  isn't  there yet without Brooks
and Williams. I  wonder he still feels that way.

Freshman  Kenyon Menifield led the Huskies
with 26 points. The Huskies  shot well behind
the 3pt line making 12 of 20.

When Brooks  and Williams return still expect
Menifield  to start or at least getting  a  lot of
playing time. He actually played the whole game.

The Huskies  next game is against California
Baptist on Thursday night. The WSU  Cougars
play tonight and Gonzaga  is playing Texas
on the road  Wednesday.  This could be an upset.
Let you know  how both games go.

In baseball  Julio Rodriguez won another rookie
of the year award. He got them all. I wish they
just had one award just like Cy Young.

Mariners Monday

Hard to know how things are going
in the  Hot Stove League. The Mariners
keep  it quiet  for the most part.

On Twitter  mentioned they are interested
in an outfielder  from Japan. His name is
Masataka Yoshida. He bats left handed
and throws right. He is 29 years old and
has batted over .300 in his career in Japan.
See where things go.

Today going to  look at Mariners  six thru eight
prospects.  All three are pitcher

# 6 Walter Ford a right handed pitcher and no
relation to top prospect  Harry Ford. He was
drafted this year in round B as competitive
balance by  the Mariners. He is drafted out of
high school.  His arrival in majors is listed
2026. At a young age he throws 95-97 fast
ball. He throws slider and changeup to. His
changeup  has work to do.

#7 Taylor  Dollar  right hander drafted in
the 5th round by the Mariners in 2020.
Taylor had such an outstanding  season
in 2022 at Arkansas  he was named the
pitcher of the year in the  Texas League.
There is a chance  we will see him in
Seattle  this year. Though a starter the
Mariners  could  move him to the bullpen
since the rotation  is crowded.

#8 Lefty Adam Macko was drafted in the
7th round by the Mariners  in 2019 out of
high school. He is only 21 years old. This
year he spen the season  at high A Everett
where he started eight games on the year
with an era of 3.99. Macko struck out 60
batters in 38 and 1/3 innings. He projected
to make his debut with the Mariners in 2024.
If they don't  have  room in the rotation  being
a lefty out of the bullpen  maybe  ideal. We will
have to see.

Next  time on the Mariners  we hope for a
signing or a trade.  We look at prospects #9
and 10. They are the likely  ones to be seen
in Seattle the top ten though the Mariners have
had other ones come through. Last year Penn
Murfee was  a lower prospect.  Go M's.

Seattle Loses in Germany

The Seahawks were beaten
Sunday 21-16 in Germany. The game was early here and the Seahawks played like they didn't get enough sleep.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers led
14-0 at half time. The Seahawks had a field goal in the third quarter. Buccaneers
had another touchdown before
the Seahawks rally including an
interception.

Now the Seahawks are now 6-4. They have a bye week before taking on the Las Vegas Raiders who are not playing well.

Geno Smith didn't play well until the fourth quarter. The defense couldn't stop the Buccaneers
running game which opened up
the passing game. We hope the
Seahawks can rebound now.

Preview: Seahawks At 49ers
