Mariner Luis Lose to Cubs

Luis Castillo went two and a third
innings Monday.He gave up two
runs on four hits. Spring training
isn't always going to show the
best even for the best pitchers.
We know Luis should be ready
to go on opening night. Spring
training is more for those who
are trying to make the team.

The Mariners came back to score
a couple runs themselves. They
had a chance to win the game
when lefty reliever Taylor Saucedo
gave up three runs in the top of
the 9th. Most likely Saucedo will
start the season in the minors
depending on how he does the
rest of the spring.

Final Cubs 6 Mariners 3

Ty France had a couple hits and
scored on a hit by Raleigh. France
hit a double to allow Raleigh hit
him in. Expect to see Tom Murphy
a good part of the spring to backup
Raleigh. Most likely he will start
against some lefties. Being out
most of last season it is hard to
know how he hits. His defense
behind the plate will be as or more
important.

With Julio and Taeoscar Hernandez
off to the World Baseball Classic for
a couple weeks we will see more of
the guys like Cade Marlowe playing.
He had the second run scored with
a home run in the seventh. Right
now showing he could be the fifth
outfielder and dh as well. Most
likely playing right field to give
Hernandez a break on the field. He
may play center to give Felix a few
times to.

Right now Marlowe and Cooper
Hummel are fighting for the last
spot on the bench. If Tommy La
Stella is going to make the team
he has to get healthy. The bench
players will be AJ Pollock, Dylan
Moore, Sam Haggerty, Tom Murphy,
Marlowe or Hummel. See whether
things change in the next three weeks.

Other than the primary relievers it
is hard to know who takes up the
last couple slots.

The Mariners have Tuesday off. Logan
Gilbert expected to start on Wednesday
against the Dodgers. May see Marlowe
in the outfield and Hummel behind
the plate at some point. The Mariners
want to be sure Marlowe can play
defense behind the plate. Go M's.
