the Cincinnati Reds 11-3.
George Kirby made his second start.
Much better than his first. He went
two innings plus giving up one hit,
a walk and struck out one. The
Reds scored a run while Kirby was
on the mound in the third inning
but left with no outs. The run was
not earned.
I expect when the season starts
Kirby will not go a lot of innings.
I could see five innings in his first
couple of outings for sure. A lot will
depend on how many pitches he
throws.
Tom Murphy had a home run along
with Cooper Hummel who is trying
to make the roster as the extra outfielder
and third catcher. Have to see how it works.
Former Mariners number one prospect
Noelvi Marte who was traded to the Reds
in the Luis Castillo trade last year played
in his 11 game of the spring. He played
third base a position the Mariners were
considering moving him to from shortstop
which he played when Seattle signed
him. Marte likely will start at doubleA
this year after playing high A last season.
He had 19 home runs last year so a
good season for someone who now
is 21 years old.
The Mariners take on Colorado Rockies
Saturday afternoon. Chris Flexen will
start. Though he might be in the bullpen
the Mariners are starting him during
the spring. The Mariners could trade
him as well. We will have to see. Go M's.
