Mariners Shutout Astros

Friday evening the Seattle  Mariners  beat the
Astros 2-0.

Bryce Miller  showed again  what we hope
to see in the future as a Mariner. He went
six and one-thirds innings. He only struck
out two batters while walking one and
two hits. He showed even striking not too
many batters He is capable  of  going into
the seventh inning.

The Astros  showed though not striking
out often the Mariners can take care of
them. Justin Topa has been a big surprise
struck out only one in one and two-thirds
innings. Munoz got the save despite giving
up two hits and not striking out batters either.

Julio continues doing well  on this road trip.
He had four hits including a home run in
the third inning. Julio tied a Mariners record
by having nine straight  hits. Julio is now
hitting .274 the highest on the team and the
home run was his 21st of the season.  The
Mariners right have the third wild card spot.
Julio will need to continue  his hitting with
other  players contributing.

Mike Ford who has been struggling at the plate
lately hit a home run in the sixth inning. It was
his 12th since being recalled. Though he may
not be a success at dh however showing his
power  occasionally  is good. It would be nice
to see either Marlowe or Canzone at dh against
righties for the most part. Ford has hit well against
the Astros  so using at dh in this series would be
fine. Going forward I  would have him in the
lineup against righties  that are four or fifth in
there rotation.  He gets hot then we will see about
getting more playing  time.  The next series against
the White Sox maybe start time at dh once since
it is a three game series.

Logan Gilbert  goes Saturday.  Hopefully  we  see
the one we did a few starts. Playing a team like
Astros  we should see Gilbert close to his best.
We do so the Mariners  have  another shot of
winning even if the offense  scores only a few
runs. Go M's.
