Purdue in the Maui Invitational. Not often
are the Zags the underdog.
The first half the Zags looked like they
would upset Purdue leading 35-30. The
Boilermakers turned up the heat on the
Zags on defense. The Zags scored 28
points while the Boilermakers scored 43.
Final Purdue 73 Gonzaga 63
The Zags had three players who scored
in double figures however their top
player Anton Watson had only 8. Also
frequently the Zags leading rebounder
Watson only had two. Where the Zags
had their biggest downfall was they
only made 6 of 32 behind the 3-point
line. Had they made 12 instead which
is 37.5 percent they would have won.
The Zags take on Syracuse on Tuesday
afternoon so see if they can do better.
The Washington Huskies men's team
split in Las Vegas beating Xavier on Friday
74-71. In another close game the Huskies
lost to San Diego State in a high scoring
affair 100-97. The Huskies were led by
Keion Brooks Jr with 22 points. All five
starters scored in double figures. Franck
Kepnang who usually comes off the bench
started scoring ten points while leading
with 8 rebounds.
The Huskies are now 3-2 in non-league games.
They don't play again until next Tuesday against
University of San Diego at home. The Huskies
have five non-league games in December. The
biggest one is against Gonzaga on December 9
at home. The begin Pac-12 season on the road
on December 29th at Colorado.
WSU Cougars are 3-1 in non-league games.
They lost their first game on Saturday to Mississippi
State 76-64. They came back to beat Rhode Island
on Sunday 78-57. Isaac Jones led the Cougars with
21 points. The difference in the game the Cougars
bench scored 35 points while Rhode Island had 8.
The Cougars next game will be home against Texas
Tech on Friday. Go Cougs!
