Mariners End Losing Streak

It was a close game for the Mariners
and Yankees however it means
Seattle is not further out in the race.

Thursday afternoon the Mariners beat
the Yankees 1-0  in New York. Logan
Gilbert went six innings for the Mariners
giving up only four hits while walking
one batter and striking out  seven.

The Mariners had only five hits in the
game. The one run happened in the
second inning when Weston Wilson
hit a home run. This meant a tight
rope for the Mariners which has been
going on a while.

The bullpen did not give up a hit in
three innings though Eduardo Bazardo
did struggle with two walks. Jose
Ferrer who has had his ups and downs
took care of the Yankees as he fsce the
top of the order against lefties. Finally
Munoz who has had little pitching time
as of late got through the 9th.

How the bullpen has done lately the
critics wonder why he can't come
in earlier in games.  When Scott
Servais was manager Munoz would
come in the 7th or 8th inning depending
on the matchups. The same was for
Paul Sewald when he was the closer.

Since Matt Brash went on the injured
list and the Mariners went with six
starters before the deadline the bullpen
was in better place. Bazardo having
trouble as of late it has been hard along
with the offense not scoring enough
runs.

The Mariners now go to Houston to
take on the division leading Astros.
Last year and earlier this year the M's
have had their number. The Mariners
do have the tie breaker  if the two.teams
end in time for first place. As we know
the Mariners haven't played the way to
get that done. This weekend would
make it a lot better if the Mariners can
beat the Astros in Houston.

The Mariners are currently down by five
games so if they sweep the Astros that
would help a whole lot.  The Rangers
are down to the Astros by a game. The
Angels have won two games while the
Rangers one. So another loss would be
nice. The Rangers play the A's on the
road this weekend.

We wish the Mariners can take this
series as it is important. After that
the Mariners play  the Brewers in
Milwaukee.  They do have  Monday
off before taking on the Chicago
Cubs at home. Go M's.
