last however the Mariners beat the LA
Dodgers Monday night in the first game
of a two-games 4-3.
The Mariners are now 11-6 with a game
and a half lead over the LA Angels and
the Oakland A's. The Mariners and Dodgers
have an afternoon game. The Mariners have
Wednesday off then play the Boston Red
Sox in Boston Thursday thru Sunday for
four games then four more games against
the Houston Astros in Houston before
returning home to take on the LA Angels.
The eight game road trip will certainly
tell us a story. Are the Mariners for real
or well the lack of experience for the
most part catch up with them.
Justus Sheffield started for the Mariners
Monday however at times through the
5 2/3 innings he pitched. Sheffield gave
up all the three runs the Dodgers were
able to muster including a home run
by Kyle Seager's brother. Kyle was able
to the home run from the dugout as he
was designated hitter after playing third
base in all the previous games.
Jose Marmolejos started the Mariners
scoring by hitting a long home run
with a runner on base. Taylor Trammell
hit a home run in the second inning to
make it 3-0. Trammell hit a double in
the fourth inning driving in catcher Luis
Torrens to end the Mariners scoring.
Ty France was hit in the arm in the
fifth inning so he had to leave the
game with soreness. France had
been playing third base with Seager
at dh. Dylan Moore moved from
second base to third with Sam
Haggerty coming in to play second.
After the game Ty France had
x-rays finding with delight it
was negative without any broken
bones. Right now France would
be considered day to day. Manager
Scott Servais not sure whether
France will play Tuesday or not
we will have to see when he comes
to the ball park.
The Mariners bullpen continues to
pitch stellar ball as they pitched
three and one-third innings giving
up only one hit. Kendall Graveman
went one and two-thirds innings
giving up no hits while striking out
five batters. Rafael Montero pitched
the 9th inning for his third save.
Right now though Montero is
listed as the closer it seems the
Mariners are content in using
other relievers closing out games
as well. Both Graveman and
Montero have pitched in the
very important eighth inning
considering it as though being
a closer than.
The success the bullpen has had
of late I expect the Mariners will
use whoever they feel to go with
in the eighth inning to hold down
the opposition.
Much of the success or lack of it
on the road trip coming up will
not only be how the starters are
doing as well as the relievers. The
Mariners starters can keep it going
with the score close through six
innings with the bullpen doing their
job then Mariners should have success.
The upcoming road trip I would
consider it a success if the Mariners
go 4-4. Anything above that would
be gravy.
News came out on Monday that
Kyle Lewis is expected to come
off the injured list on Tuesday.
This means he should be in
center field Tuesday afternoon.
The Mariners will be facing left
handed pitcher Julio Urias for
the Dodgers. Being a left handed
hitter I would not expect Taylor
Trammell in the lineup, however,
the status of Ty France will help
decide. Most likely if France is
going he will be at designated
hitter which means Dylan Moore
would be second while Sam
Haggerty be in left field.
This could be the same lineup
with Tom Murphy at catcher
since he didn't catch Monday
night and Luis Torrens be at
designated hitter being the only
right handed hitter left on the
roster who wouldn't be starting.
We hope France is in the game
