was a defensive match. Most likely
the Cardinals would have beaten
most teams on this day however
the Seahawks were a real match.
Seahawks 16 Cardinals 6
This was the Seahawks best defensive
game of the season without question.
It has been a while since we have seen
this kind of play by the defense.
Coach MacDonald defense he brought
to Seattle is now working. It took some
time and changing parts as well. The
main change continues to the trade
bringing over Earnest Jones IV over
from the Titans. Things changed to
running defense since he came aboard.
It was the middle linebacker spot that
made it happen with the right guy.
In this game neither team were able
to run the ball. The Seahawks ran for
65 yards on 25 carries while the
Cardinals had 14 carries for 49 yards.
One run by running back Emari
Demercado for 14 yards. Trey Benson
had four carries for the Cardinals
for 18 yards. James Connor led with
seven carries however had only eight
yards. He was second in catches with
five for 41 yards.
Neither team scored a point until 9:43
left in the second quarter when the
Cardinals kicked the first of two field
goals they made in the game. Jaxon
Smitg-Njigba scored a three yard TD
from Geno Smith with 1:14 left in
the first half to put the Seahawks
ahead. Jaxon led the Seahawks
with six catches. Seahawks led
7-3 at halftime.
Both defenses continued to go
and safety Coby Bryant intercepted
a pass he returned for a touchdown
with 7:12 remaining in the third
quarter the only score of that period.
The extra point was missed so the
Seahawks were up 13-3 heading
into the fourth quarter.
Geno Smith rushed a pass early in
the fourth quarter that was intercepted.
This put the Cardinals in good position
to tie the game however Seahawks
defense raised to the occasion inside
the ten yard line and the Cardinals had
to settle for a field goal making it
13-7. This meant they had a chance
to tie or go ahead on a touchdown.
This wasn't meant to be.
The Seahawks kicked a field goal to
put the Seahawks up by ten with
1:56 left in the game. This made it
hard for the Cardinals to comeback
to win. A critical penalty by tight
end Trey McBride meant the Cardinals
had to go for a field goal with 15 seconds remaining to put them
within seven points and have to do
an onside kick. The snap wasn't
good though the holder was able
to put the ball down however the
kicker missed it go the left giving
the Seahawks the win.
The Seahawks and the Cardinals
are tied with 6-5 however puts the
Seahawks in first for the time being.
The Rams are playing the Eagles
at home on Sunday night football.
They win they are 6-5 too. The Cardinals beat the Rams in their
first game and Rams beat the
Seahawks so would be a three
way tie.
Next Sunday the Seahawks play
the Jets on their field. The Jets
are not having a good season
firing several coaches including
the head coach recently and the
general manager. The Seahawks
should have seven wins after
next week. Go Hawks!
