Preview of WSU Cougars Men's Basketball Opener

The Washington State Cougars
open the season on Monday at
home against Portland State.
The Cougars are now the member
of the West Coast Conference for
two years before going back to
the new Pac-12.

The Cougars have a new head coach
David Riley who was at nearby Eastern
Washington for three seasons. Isaiah
Watts is the only returning player who
lettered last year. Watts is a sophomore who came off the bench
and is expected to start. The Cougars
have 12 players who are new to the
team including four who transferred
from Easter Washington.

The Cougars are 10-0 in their series
with Portland State. The four players
coming from Eastern Washington are
familiar with their opponent since they
played in the same conference.

Though the Cougars have 13 players
usually in preseason games they usually go with ten. Depending how
the game goes we could see the
other three play for a few minutes.
What the starting lineup for the
Cougars we will see. Besides Watts
three of gge four transfers from
Eastern Washington will likely start.
Usually going into the season the
lineup is usually not known unless
most of the starters returned. With
the transfer portal often we see changes every year and a new coach
adds to it.

Portland State has eight transfers in
while returning two starters. The two
returning starters are senior forward Isaiah Johnson who averaged 9.3 points a  game last season and 4.8 rebounds along with junior guard Ismail Habib averaging nine points
and 2.8 assists a game.

The Cougars football team along
with their opponent Utah State
have a bye week so we will have
preview coming up next week.
Go Cougs!

along with junior
