Cougars and Huskies Both Win

The Washington State Cougars were not
very impressive in their season opener
at home against Idaho.

Final WSU 13 Idaho 10

The Cougars scored their lone touchdown
in the first half. Heading into the 4th
quarter the Cougars were ahead 10-0
then the Vandals scored twice to tie.
The Cougars won the game with a field
goal with three seconds remaining.

The Cougars had no running game.
Kirby Vorhees led with 19 yards on
six carries so the passing game was
it. Be a long season for the Cougars
if they don't improve that part of the
game.

A surprise Jaxon Potter redshirt
sophomore Jaxon Potter. Going
into the game he was listed second
on the depth chart. Potter completed
23 of 30 passes for 208 yards. Ok
amount however not what the Cougars
are used to. Offensively they will need
to go back to the drawing board.

Idaho primarily ran the ball against the
Cougars successfully by quarterback
Joshua Wood. He carried the ball 12
times for 101 yards. He completed 12
passes as well out of 20 attempts for
measley 33 yards. We could say the
Cougars have a good pass defense
at this point.

Next Saturday they will host San Diego
State. They will their opener Thursday
night 42-0.

The Washington Huskies beat Colorado
State  in their first meeting ever 38-21.
The Huskies scored first after winning
the coin toss and decided to let the Rams
receive first. The first touchdown was by
running back Jonah Coleman who took it
in for 26 yards.  In total Coleman ran
for 177 yards and a second touchdown.
The Rams tied on their second possession.
The score was tied at halftime 14-14.
A turnover by the Huskies at the end of
the first half.

The Huskies took care of business in
the second half.  Their run defense
wasn't good in the first half as has
been a problem for several seasons.
They did turn it around in the second
half as the Rams ran for a minus six
yards. The Huskies resemble the
second half defense the rest of the
season they will be hard to beat.
They shutout the Rams in the fourth
quarter after giving up a touchdown
in the third quarter.

Huskies sophomore quarterback Demond
Williams Jr. making only his third career
start threw 24 passes while 18  for 226
yards. He also ran the ball 13 times for
68. His threat of running the ball will
help the Huskies during the season.
With Jonah Coleman being the primary
running back it will be important when
they face the physical teams in the Big
Ten.

Denzel Boston the Huskies number one
receiver caught five passes for 92 yards
and a touchdown for 12 yards in the
third quarter.

Next Saturday night the Huskies play
UC Davis at home again.  They won
their season open Saturday 31-24
over Utah Tech.

Go Dawgs!
