Preview: Seahawks At 49ers

After the bye week news came out
that the Seahawks released linebacker
Tyrel Dodson who they signed as a
free agents. Now both free agent
linebackers are gone. I know that
there are some fans who say they
should have resigned Bobby Wagner.
This is a very good point since the
Commanders are doing  better than
the Seahawks.

I just saw a headline saying Dodson
was the Seahawks leading tackler.
This could be negative depending
where most of the tackles happened.
We know that the Seahawks have
not been good against the run.

The signed cornerback Josh Jobs
off the practice squad. This could
mean at times the Seahawks will
have middle linebacker Ernest Jones
IV as the only linebacker in the game.

The Seahawks have had trouble
stopping the run though better
since Jones came on the scene.
The 49ers have Christian McCaffrey
back so this could mean harder to
stop the run. With the bye week
and the release of Dodson the
Seahawks maybe changing the
scheme somewhat. We will find
out won't we.

The 49ers should be favored and
we hope the Seahawks will make
an upset. We do know the 49ers
are not having a great season so
far either.

The NFC west division we know
the Seahawks can still take it
in the second half. We will see if
any other changes happen especially
they lose to the 49ers.

Washington Huskies Come From Behind

The Huskies beat city rival Seattle
Pacific 77-62. The Huskies though
had to overcome a 13 point deficit
In the first half.

They took a lead 41-40 in the second half and never trailed again. It is not
easy to have a good game against
a rival even one that you have never
lost too.

Forward Great Osobor and guard
DJ Davis expected to be the top
scorers for the most part on the
season each had 18 points. Osobor
led in rebounds with eight. Tyler
Harris came off the bench with 13.
Touted freshman Zoom Diallo had
eight points while starter Mekihi
Mason had night.

The Huskies took a lot more
free throws than the Falcons
however still struggling from
the line. Huskies made 17 of
32 free throws while the Falcons
went 9 out of 14. The Huskies
will need to improve if they expect
to win close games at the line.

The Huskies next game will be
on Sunday night at home against
UMass Lowell.  They are 2-0
and play at Gonzaga Friday night.
Go Dawgs!

Preview: Washington State at New Mexico

The Cougars are 12.5 favorites
as they are on the road to play
New Mexico Lobos who are 4-6.
It isn't easy to be favorites on
the road no matter how good
you are.

The Cougars are 8-1 with the
only blemish losing to Boise
State. Early on in the Cougars
did have close calls. The
team is looking to see if they
can make it to the National
Championship series which
is amazing since the conference
they were playing in no longer
is in the form it had been with
ten teams leaving and the are
playing a non conference schedule.

The Lobos beat San Diego State in
their last outing 21-16. Quarterback
Quarterback Devon Dampier had 16
catches caught out of 24 throws for
175 yards, one touchdown and no
interceptions. Like Cougar  Mateer
he is a dual quarterback running for
127 yards on 17 carries. Both teams
will have to look at qb in more than
one function.

Eli Sanders had 16 carries for the
Lobos and had 173 yards with
two touchdowns. Ryan Davis
caught five balls for 47 yards and
one touchdown. This could be
a high scoring affair. The Cougars
can't take the Lobos foregranted
and this will be a  big letdown
if they lose. The Cougars have
two games remaining  after
this one and be in double digits
in wins. They can be one of the
big teams in college football
in 2024. Go Cougs!

Preview: UCLA at Washington Huskies

The Washington Huskies are favorites
by 3.5 points though at home and have a long home winning streak. Also UCLA won their last out between both teams in 2022  40-32.

UCLA has a 4-5 record while Huskies
are 5-5. The game is Friday night at
6pm on ESPN+. I don't like game on
that channel since have to pay extra.
I suppose could get the channel and cancel shortly after. The Bruins have
an overall of 42-32-2 over the Huskies.
They have played each other  since
1932.

UCLA beat Iowa last week 20-17. Ethan
Garbers is UCLA'S quarterback was
redshirted a year at Washington before
transferring to the Bruins. Garbers has a completion rate 64.8 percent this year.
He has thrown 22 touchdowns while
having 11 interceptions. The key is for
the Huskies to get at least one interception that can make a difference
in the game.

The Bruins ran last week 211 yards
against Iowa. This was the Huskies
trouble last week against Penn State
so be important the Huskies defense
turns things around.  TJ Harden that
the most carries having 20 for 125.
Iowa's Kaleb Johnson had only 49
against the Bruins so it will be
important that Jonah Coleman
rebounds from what he  did against
Penn State.

Will Rogers is expected to be the
starting qb against the Bruins. A
lot of Huskies fans want to go
with freshman Demond Williams
Jr.. If the Huskies get off to slow
start we may see Williams soon.
The freshman is the future so
unless Rogers does a good job
giving Williams the helm makes
sense.

The defense will have to do
better than they did last week.
They often make adjustments
at halftime however against
Penn State was too late.

Winning this for the Huskies is a
must if they want to make a bowl
game. Go Dawgs!

Cougars Beat Idaho

The WSU  Cougars  men's basketball  team beat
the Idaho Vandals  Monday Night  90-67.

Coach Riley thought  the Cougars got off a slow
slow start. Second half the Cougars went on
a run where LeJuan Watts scored the teams ten
points straight. LeJuan scored 16 for the game
and had career high 14 rebounds.

Former Washington  Huskies  Nate Caimese
led the Cougars with 18 points. He has scored
in double  figures  all three wins.

The Cougars combinated the boards with
46-30 in rebounds.

The Cougars play at Iowa next on Friday.
The Hawkeyes  are 2-0  however play
South Dakota on Tuesday. This will be
match playing a Big Ten  apponent.

The Cougars play this season in the WCC
so they will face Gonzaga twice. It will
be interesting how they do after a good
season  last year in the Pac-12.  Go Cougs!

Gonzaga Wins Again

Yes the Gonzaga Bulldogs beat
Arizona State 88-80 Sunday
afternoon. ASU were down by four
at 42.6 secs remaining  in the game.
A turnover gave the Bulldogs the
win pretty much.

The Sun Devils had the lead several
times in the second half however
could hold down the home team.
Had this been a home game by
the Sun Devils it might have been
a Zags loss.  Important thing is
getting it done when time is come
to a close.

The Zags had three players score in
double figures. Braden Huff came
off the bench to score 21 points.
Also Michael Ajayi came off the
bench leading them with 12 rebounds
and nine points. This is why it is
important to have a couple bench
players that can regularly get the
job done.

Arizona State had three players
scoring in double figures too.
Basheer Jihad led them with 22
points as well as 1O rebounds.
The Sun Devils shot 47.6 percent
from the field while the Zags shot
fifty percent. Both shot poorly
behind the three point line. Both
teams shot well from the free
throw line however Gonzaga
made six more of them.

Gonzaga's next game will be
on Friday night at home against
UMass Lowell. They are 2-0
however Gonzaga best game they play so far. Go Zags!

Cougars Win Again

The Washington State Cougars
won their eight game of the
season beating Utah State 49-28.

The Cougars did something they
don't normally do in rushing the
bslk so much for 303 yards.
Quarterback John Mateer threw
four touchdowns for the Cougars
with three going to wide receiver
Kyle Williams. Mateer ran for a
touchdown as well.

Running back Wayshawn Parker
had a big night for the Cougars
going for 149 yards. Half the yards
were on one play when he ran for
75 yards and a touchdown at the
beginning of the second half. That
was his second of the game.

The Cougars are 8-1 now and play
next at New Mexico.

In hockey the Seattle Kraken on
Friday night ended a four game
losing streak on the road by
beating Vegas Nights 4-3 at home.
The Kraken made a trade with
the Vancouver Canucks reacquiring
Daniel Sprong for future considerations. He is on a one
year deal he signed with the Canucks
after playing last year with Detroit
Red Wings.

The Kraken are 6-8-1 and in six place
in the Pacific division. They were in
third place before going on that
five game road trip. The Kraken's
next game is Tuesday night at
home against Columbus Blue
Jackets. Go Kraken!

Huskies Roll Over

Penn State who were favored
by 13.5 won going away 35-6
over the Washington Huskies.

The Nittany Lions led the
game 28-0 at halftime. The
second half were played by
reserves.

The takeaways were easy
by what you can see by the
score. The offense couldn't
do much at after the first
possession of the game where
they missed a field goal. The
defense were unable to stop
Penn State. The Huskies
continue not to win on the road.

Will Rogers didn't come back
to play the second half.  Rogers
threw thirteen passes while
completing ten for 59 yards
and an interception. Freshman
Desmond Williams Jr. threw
ten balls with six caught. He
led the Huskies in rushing
as well going 38 yards on
ten carries. Starting running
back Jonah Coleman carried
rlevdn times for 24 yards.

The Huskies had eight different
receivers to make a catch. Giles
Jackson had five catches while
Denzel Boston led in yardage
at 35 on two catches.

The Huskies had two field goals
with one in the third quarter and
the other in the fourth. This was
a game where the Huskies didn't
win in yardage while losing as
they had before. Nittany Lions
had 486 yards total while Huskies
had 193.

The Huskies play at home next Friday night against UCLA. They have a bye
before ending the regular season
at Oregon on November 30. Making
a bowl game they really need to beat
the Bruins.

The Huskies in men's basketball
team lost at Nevada Saturday
night 63-53. They were in the
game until late in the game.

The Huskies had only two players
to score in double figures. Tyree
Ihenacho led with 15 points while
Tyler Harris had ten. Great Osobor
led the Huskies in rebounds with
nine however had only three points
compared to 16 in the season
opener.

The Huskies will play Seattle
Pacific at home on Wednesday.
Go Dawgs!

Cougars Beat Bradley Braves Friday

The Washington State Cougars
had another nice win Friday
night at home over Bradley
91-74.

This is over a team that has a
good history men's basketball
in the Missouri Valley Conference.

The Cougars only shot 10-31
behind the arc however went to
the foul line 33 times and making
27.  They were only up by three
at halftime however went on a
14-1 to begin the second half.

The Cougars primarily play six
players and all of them again
scored in double figures. They
were led by Cedric Coward and
Natd Calmese with 18 points.
LeJuan Watts led in rebounds
with eleven to go with his 12
points.

The Cougars next game will be
Monday night at home against
Idaho. The Vandals are 1-1
and lost to UC Davis Thursday
79-76. A team that gave Washington
Huskies fits and almost came out
with a win in Seattle last Tuesday.
So Idaho should give the Cougars
another good test at home. Go Cougs!

Mariners General Manager Speaks At Meeting

This week the general  managers  are
meeting in Texas. Seattle  Mariners
general  manager  Justin Hollander
said the outfield  is  fairly  solid.
Julio Rodriguez  in  center field
of course. Rady Arozarena who
they acquired at the trading deadline
in left and Victor Robles in right.
Robles did a fine job when Julio
was injured so he will play there
when needed. Hollander mentioned
Luke Raley  as the fourth outfielder
when not playing first base.

The question  is  to improve  the
infield. Primarily  that is second
and third base. Right now the
Mariners  are solid defensively
in the infield  however the need
to improve  offensively.

First base Raley playing against
righties and have someone to
play against lefties  and when
he is in the outfield  too. On the
roster right now is Tyler Locklear.
The Mariners  may sign Justin
Turner if another team doesn't
snatch him up though he enjoyed
his time while coming over at the
deadline.  Dylan Moore could play
some first however his value is
playing multiple  positions.  Another
choice could  be Mitch Haniger if
he is on the team. Most likely  he will
be playing  some dh. We have the
question  about Mitch Garver  as well.
Will the Mariners  dump either Haniger
or Garver. Most likely  not both. In
Haniger they know they have and
hopefully  be better after a poor season
in 2024. Garver right now would be the
backup catcher  and play dh at times.
This would depend  on how he hits.
The Mariners  may explore picking up
another catcher but that isn't  a priority.

Next time we will look at the bullpen.
The Mariners  need to look at bolstering
it though we hope George  Santos  will
be healthy  at the beginning of spring
trying and Matt Brash will return at some
point though June could be it. All depends
on his recovery  continues this winter
and into Spring Training.  Go M's.

Preview: Washington Huskies at Penn State

The Washington Huskies play this
Saturday late afternoon 5 pm Pacific
time at Penn State.

The Huskies face the number six
team in the country. Last week the Huskies beat USC Trojans at home
26-21 while Penn State lost to Ohio
State number two 20-13. The  Nittany
Lions are favored by 13.5 points.
The Huskies are 0-3  on the road.
They are tied for eighth place in the
Big Ten.

The Huskies and the Nittany Lions
have played only four times and
three were in bowl games. Penn
State won last time in the 2017
Fiesta Bowl 35-28.

Penn State average 187.5 yards
a game on the ground. I am sure
they will open up against the UW
in that manner. They are 24th ranked
throwing the ball however the Huskies
are one of the top teams on pass defense.

The Nittany Lions quarterback is
Drew Allar who completes just over
seventy percent of his throws and
has 12 touchdown pass and five
interceptions on the season.

Kaytron Allen is the Nittany Lions
starting running back averaging
sixty-seven yards a game at 4.7
yards per carry. He has four TDs
on the season.

Tyler Warren is Penn State's leading
receiver with 51 catches and four
touchdowns.

Penn State is averaging 30.5 points a game and giving up 15. This game
could come close to their average.

Even in their four losses the Huskies
have better stats against their opponents. It will be important for
the Huskies to do better in the red
zone if they want to have any chance
to win. The defense causing a turnover
or two would help as well. Go Dawgs!

Huskies Win Season Opener

The Huskies did what the other
Big Ten schools have done who
played winning the season open.
The same goes for the Ciugs and
Zags.

The Huskies got off to a good start
early though they let UC Davis stay
in the game. Under Mike Hopkins
the Huskies often started off slow.
The Huskies did let Davis stick
around though. Final Washington 79
UC

The game would have been farther
apart had they shot better from the
foul line. Huskies shot at 55% shots
made. It was right at 50% until late
in the game. Both teams made the
same amount of free throws however
the Huskies took 12 more shots.
Had the Huskies made six more it
would have made more comfortable
ending.

The Huskies played mostly seven
players all going at least twenty
minutes. Forward Great Osobor
in his first game as a Husky led
the team with 15 points and 17
rebounds which is amazing stat.
Most likely he will be the team's
best player.

The Huskies had five players score
in double figures with three starters
and two reserves. Senior DJ Davis
had only two points late in the game.
We should see much better the rest
of the season. The Huskies rotation
should be seven though two others
will see OK minutes around fifteen.
This would depend on the opponent
and foul trouble.

Louis Kortright played fifteen minutes
as the eighth player and Tyler Harris
played well late in the game going
12 minutes and having nine points.
Both could play additional minutes
going  forward. Kortright had been
hurt during camp so he performs
well as does Harris more minutes.

The Huskies will need play better
against Nevada on Saturday
who beat Sam Houston 91-75
in season opener. Go Dawgs!

Mitch Haniger and More

Mitch Haniger accepted his $17
million player option on Monday.
Matt Brash, fellow pitchers Jackson
Kowar and Blas Castono along
with Sam Haggerty were activated
to the 40- man roster who filled it
right now. Brash likely won't be ready
until next  June likely. Kowar out
most of last year to and Castano
pitched in both double A and triple
A for the Mariners. Haggerty was
hurt while playing for Tacoma. He
is eligible for arbitration so the
Mariners could leave him or put
him on waivers like they did for
Luis Urias.

The Mariners will have to reduce
the roster if they make a trade that
involves acquiring more than one
player or they sign a free agent or
pick up off waivers. Also if they have to
add someone they don't want to lose
to rule five draft in December.

The Mariners have 23 pitchers and
17 position players on the roster.
Usually they carry 20 pitchers and
20 position players. Most likely
the first to be taken off is a pitcher
unless the player they want to add
is a position and they are willing
to drop one.

Right now you have to figure Haniger
will be on the opening day roster
unless they are willing to cut that
much payroll and still pay him. They
could trade him however the other
team probably won't want to pay the
full amount. On the team Mitch will
be the fourth or fifth outfielder and
dh as well.

Mitch Garver is listed on the roster
as the dh however he is right now
the teams backup catcher as he was
the second have of last season. The
Mariners don't have another catcher
so they would have to sign another
one if they want a third catcher.
Congratulations to Cal Raleigh for
winning the gold glove as a catcher
along with Dylan Moore as utility
player.  This could make him more
valuable if the Mariners wanted to
trade him which is a possibility.

The Mariners have seven infielders
and eight outfielders listed. Luke
Raley is listed as an outfielder though
he played a lot of first base in September
and is considered right
now as someone playing time next
season as well. Sam Haggerty listed
to though he could play any of the
infield spots just like Dylan Moore
is listed as an infielder but can play
the outfield too.

The Mariners didn't accept Jorge
Polanco option so they will have to
acquire one. Currently Ryan Bliss
along with Dylan Moore and Leo Rivas
would play second. The Mariners
acquire a third baseman than Josh
Rojas could play second to.

Rojas does return at third though
the Mariners look to upgrade the
position. Dylan Moore would play
as a platoon player if they don't
upgrade. Right now Raley and
Tyler Locklear could platoon at
first base unless they bring back
Justin Turner who is a free agent
and has shown interest. JP Crawford
is the shortstop with Dylan Moore
and Rivas could see action too.

Ryan Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez
and Victor Robles be the starting
rotation with Haniger and Raley
playing on occasion right now.
Dominic Canzone and Cade Marlowe
be the guys after them.

We will see what the Mariners
do over the weeks ahead. The
pitching any changes will likely
happen in the bullpen unless a
surprise happens. Go M's!

WSU and Gonzaga Both Win

One thing both the Cougars and
the Zags have in common is an
that will score a lot of points.
It will be interesting when they
play each other in the West Coast
Conference.

The Cougars beat Portland State
100-92. The Cougars got off to a
slow start being down by 17 points.
They went on a 25-7 run to take over.
The Cougars had a eight point lead
at half time which was the difference.

The  Cougars had all five starters
score in double figures plus Isaiah
Watts coming off the bench with 20 points. I thought Watts would start
however having a player who can
score off the bench is good. He did
play 27 minutes so it is like another
starter. Rihards Vavers was the only
other guy getting playing time off
the bench going 16 minutes however
only scored one point. Vavers is
coming back from injury so his time will likely increase.  The Cougars look to go with a seven player rotation.

Cedric Coward led the Cougars with
23 points and 12 rebounds. Former
Washington Husky Nate Calmese in
his Cougar debut was third in scoring
with 17 and led with five assists.

On Friday the Cougars play Bradley.
This should be a bigger test and they
will have to get off on better start.

Gonzaga played Baylor in their
season debut. Although they played
in Spokane it wasn't on their home
court. It didn't matter as they played
well and had their faithful student
section at the game

The Zags started on a 8-1 run then
Baylor did a run of their own going
8-0 to take a temporary lead. After
that they blew out Baylor. Expected
a closer game as Baylor was ranked eight while Zags six.  The final was
Gonzaga 101 Baylor 63.

The Zags led Baylor by 19 at halftime
and outscored them again by 19 in
the second half. The Zags are not going to let up it looks like. The big
difference the Gonzaga scored thirty
more points behind the three point
line. They made 41.9 percent behind
line while Baylor shot 14.3 percent.
The Zags had easy shots as well
as they shot 57.1 percent from the
field. They dominated the defensive
boards with 29 compared to 18 by
Baylor.

Gonzaga went with an eight man
rotation most of the way with three
starters in double figures and two
off the bench. Nolan Hickman led
the Zags with 17 points. Braden Huff
who is instant offense when he usually
comes off the bench had 14 points
in 16 minutes.

Gonzaga's next outing will be at home
against Arizona State on Sunday. ASU
play their first game Tuesday night
at home against Idaho State. They
play Santa Clara Friday before facing
the Zags. See how good they are
heading into Sunday.  Go Zags!

The Washington Huskies have their season opener against UC Davis
Tuesday night. We see whether
they will win as well. It would be
nice to see all three teams have a
good season.

Preview Utah State at Washington State

The Cougars are at home against
Utah State Aggies this coming
Saturday. Both teams had a bye.
The Aggies are struggling having
a 2-6 record on the season winning
the opener and beating Wyoming on
the road thevSaturday before last
27-25. Wyoming has struggled with
a 1-7 record.

On offense the Aggies are averaging
158.1 yards on the ground while
300.88 in the air per game. On defense
they are close giving up 244 yards
rushing while 255 passing.

The Cougars who will be a big favorite
in this game average 158 yards on the
ground while 280 yards in the air.
Facing the Aggies we can see the
Cougars mixing up the run and passing
game. Most likely the Cougars will
score early on a long pass to get
things going.

If the Aggies have the  ball first we
could see them running the ball
to keep the clock moving. A good
strategy especially on the road.

Turnovers should make a big diffence
especially if the Aggies have trouble
holding on. The  Cougars defense
will try to force the Aggies to get
in position to turn the ball over.

The Cougars are a 19.5 underdog
to the Cougars. WSU should go to
8-1 record. Go Cougs!

Monday night  the Cougars men's
basketball  team begins their non
league schedule at home against
Portland State followed by Bradley
on Friday.

The Washington  Huskies men's
team begin at home against UC
Davis on Tuesday.  Like the Cougars
they have a new head coach and
a group of new players as well.

 Gonzaga's men's  begin Monday
as well. The number 6 Bulldogs
don't  start lightly  take on number
8 Baylor. It should be a fantastic
game.

Let you know how all three teams
first outings go. Stay tuned all
season long.

Seahawks Lose In Overtime

The Seahawks lost Sunday afternoon
with the offense making too many
mistakes. Final Rams 26 Seahawks 20

Geno Smith threw for over 300 yards
and had three touchdowns including
late in the fourth quarter to send it into
overtime. The Seahawks have gone 1-5  since winning their first three games.
Four losses at home.

The game was ugly with Geno Smith
having three interceptions. At times
he and the offense didn't do well
though they had more yardage then
the Rams. The Seahawks defense was
good for the most part especially
against the run where they have had
some trouble. They couldn't make
up for the trouble the offense had
on the day.

Kyren Williams led the Rams in
rushing with 22 carries for 69 yards.
The Seahawks were ready for the
Rams running game. They did have
trouble stopping the passing game
at times. Cooper Kupp had 11 catches
for 104 yards however he couldn't get
into the end zone. The Rams did have
two touchdowns in the air.  The third
touchdown was 104 yards off a Geno
interception in the 4th quarter.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba had his best game as a Seahawk catching seven for 180
yards and two touchdowns. The first
touchdown was with five seconds left
in the first half and the second was
under a minute remaining in the
game to allow a chance  the Seahawks
could have in winning the game.
He did have a catch that was fumbled
as well. Thst was his only mistake
really in the game. He might had done
even better if penalties hadn't occurred
either.

The Seahawks have a bye next week
is probably a good thing with the
record they have. The Seahawks
next game will be on November 17
on the road against the 49ers. We
hope they can recover since they do
have a chance still to win the
division.

The Arizona Cardinals beat the
Chicago Bears Sunday 29-9 at
home to be 5-4 and first place.
Rams and the 49ers are both 4-4
so tied for second and the Seahawks
4-5. The 49ers had a bye this week
and take on Tampa Bay next Sunday
on the road. The division is on a
bottleneck so anyone can still win.
Go Hawks.

Huskies Beat USC

The game Saturday night the Huskies
dominated the first half leading 20-7.
The Huskies had two touchdowns
and two field goals.

The Trojans had two touchdowns
dominating the Huskies on the ground
and had one of the touchdowns
made on fourth and nine. Not a good stand.

The Huskies scored the only TD in
the 4th quarter and the defense made
adjustment. They were able to stop
USC on goal line stands twice. The
second was on fourth and four with
33 seconds left.

This extends the Huskies winning
streak to 19 games at home.  We hope this goes to the next game too. Next weeks game will be a rough one taking on number three ranked Penn State on
the road though the lost to Ohio
State 20-13. I don't think there are
any easy games to play in the Big
Ten.

We will have a preview this next week.
Go Dawgs!

Washington State Cougars 2025 Football Schedule

The Washington  State  Cougars  who have
this weekend  off before playing  Utah State
next Saturday  have already announced their
schedule  for next season.

The Cougars  are currently  7-1 and look
to go to a pretty  good  bowl  game this
year.

The Cougars will only play two games
against Mount West schools next year.
They will face San Diego State  in game
two and Colorado  State in game five
on September  27. These two teams
will join the new Pac-12  in 2026.

The Cougars will begin on August 30
facing Idaho at home. They have played
each other in non conference games
often. It would be interesting  if they
could add Idaho to the new Pac-12
where they would make enough teams.
They haven't  been mentioned  before.
The Cougars and Vandals are a natural
rivals as they are close to each other.

Speaking of rivals the Cougars will play
Washington  Huskies on September  20
at Pullman in the Apple Cup. Before that
the Cougars travel to North Texas State
in game three.

The game against Colorado State will
be on the  road. They have a bye week
after that. They have two road games
after the bye to begin October against
Ole Miss and Virginia.  Those will be
two tough games. They come home
to play Toledo.

The Cougars  begin November on the
1st playing at Orego State Beavers.
In an oddity the play the Beavers twice.
They have another bye on November 8.
The next week  they are home against
Louisiana State then on the road at
James Madison. They finish the season
at home against Oregon State.

This will be interesting  to  see  how good
of a season  after this one. Go Cougs!

Mariners Make A Couple Moves Friday

On Friday now with the World Series over the Mariners have made a couple
moves that were dxpected. We could see more over the next week.

Jorge Polanco who didn't have the
season as expected after being
acquired shortly before spring
training the Mariners didn't accept
the teams option. He will be a
free agent. Though the Mariners
likely won't resign him they still
could actually. His option was
for $12 million. There is a good
chance he will not receive that
much on a new contract. Jorge
may have to decide on a one year
contract though another team
could go on a two year deal.
Signing a deal there will be
incentives build in I would expect.

The Mariners put Luis Urias on
waivers as he was not tendered
since he do for arbitration. This
puts 36 player on the 40 man
roster.  Sam Haggerty who is on
60 day injured list is eligible for
arbitration too. The Mariners
will likely non tender him too.

The Mariners currently have 20
pitchers on the 40 man roster
with Matt Brash and Jackson
Kowar on the 60 day injured list.
Both will stay on likely until at
least spring training. Kowar
the Mariners could release
depending on how his future
looks in Seattle and whether
the Mariners need a spot.

Right now it looks like three
of the four infield positions
are open although the Mariners
could look to foot all of them.
JP Crawford had a poor season
in 2024 and whether the Mariners
are willing to see if he has a
comeback in 2025. He is good in
the clubhouse it seems.  The
team has shortstops in the minors
however non seems to be ready
yet and Crawford is still under
contract.

The Mariners have Luke Raley
who did an OK job late in the
season at first base. Also Tyler
Locklear who played most of the
season at Tacoma though began in
double A is on the 40 man roster.
Locklear did have 45 at bats for
the Mariners however hit on .156
and had two home runs. Though
not good he could be ready in
2025. Justin Turner who the M's
acquired at the trading deadline
had a good time on the team.
He is a free agent and if the Mariners are interested he could be back next season. He was valuable batting
.264 and had five home runs in 48
games. Turner certainly enjoyed
his time in Seattle. Reliever Yimi
Garcia who is a free agent as well.
The only two to are free agents.

With Polanco and Urias gone the
Mariners have Ryan Bliss and Leo
Rivas on the roster to play second
base although they can play short
as well. Both showed some flashes.
The Mariners may go out and acquire
a second baseman with through trade
or free agency. The only prospect
that might be ready is Cole Young.
He would be a favorite to take the spot.

Josh Rojas who began the season
platooning with Urias at third base
may have been the Mariners best
hitter into May however slumped
after that. Rojas ended up only
hitting .225 though his defense
was excellent and better than expected.

The likihood the Mariners won't
acquire a first, second and third
baseman for next season. The
chance they will acquire a second
and third baseman. I would look
first getting a  third baseman then a second baseman. Most likely Rojas
and Dylan Moore will be the backup
infielders depending on how the
upgrading goes.

The Mariners due sign Turner he
will be playing  some first and
dh. The Mariners acquire a first
baseman which could be some on
the market we could see Turner
and Raley being the primary dh.
Raley as the 4th outfielder too.
Of course at times Moore could
play the outfield well as the infield.

All this comes down to what Dipoto,
general manager Hollander and
manager Dan Wilson would like to
see.

Right here keep up to what the
Mariners will do during the off
season. Go M's.

Preview of WSU Cougars Men's Basketball Opener

The Washington State Cougars
open the season on Monday at
home against Portland State.
The Cougars are now the member
of the West Coast Conference for
two years before going back to
the new Pac-12.

The Cougars have a new head coach
David Riley who was at nearby Eastern
Washington for three seasons. Isaiah
Watts is the only returning player who
lettered last year. Watts is a sophomore who came off the bench
and is expected to start. The Cougars
have 12 players who are new to the
team including four who transferred
from Easter Washington.

The Cougars are 10-0 in their series
with Portland State. The four players
coming from Eastern Washington are
familiar with their opponent since they
played in the same conference.

Though the Cougars have 13 players
usually in preseason games they usually go with ten. Depending how
the game goes we could see the
other three play for a few minutes.
What the starting lineup for the
Cougars we will see. Besides Watts
three of gge four transfers from
Eastern Washington will likely start.
Usually going into the season the
lineup is usually not known unless
most of the starters returned. With
the transfer portal often we see changes every year and a new coach
adds to it.

Portland State has eight transfers in
while returning two starters. The two
returning starters are senior forward Isaiah Johnson who averaged 9.3 points a  game last season and 4.8 rebounds along with junior guard Ismail Habib averaging nine points
and 2.8 assists a game.

The Cougars football team along
with their opponent Utah State
have a bye week so we will have
preview coming up next week.
Go Cougs!

Baseball Season Ends

The 2024 baseball season is now over
with Los Angeles  Dodgers beating the
New York  Yankees  four games to one.

For the second season  in a row the
Seattle  Mariners  missed the playoffs
by one game in each one. This last
season  was the most disheartening
since they had a 10 game lead over
the Houston  Astros.  The Astros had
injuries and didn't  have  one of their
best seasons.

The Mariners  had the best starting
rotation  in the majors. The  bullpen
had issues especially  with  having
some injuries.  Matt Brash  missed
the whole season  while Gregory
Santos pitched in only eight games
most near the end of the season.

The Mariners  acquired  Yimi Garcia
from  the Toronto  Blue Jays  at the
trading deadline. Yimi ended up
pitching in ten games for the Mariners.
The last game was on August 19.

Andre Munoz  had a very  good  season
for the Mariners. Like most closers he
will falter on occasion. When he wasn't
able to close out a game the Mariners
didn't  have anyone who could do  the
job on the most part. They did have
relievers who did a good most of the
time six through the ninth inning.

The largest problem  was the offense
where most of the players had a poor
season and the relievers had to come
in at times where the score was tied
or they were down or up by a run. The
starting rotation  did a great when
the score was low.

The Mariners  are hoping to keep the
rotation  intact. Other teams are going
to offer some offensive punch to get
one of the pitchers during the off-season.
Right after the season President  of
baseball operations  Jerry  Dipoto said
that trading any of the five starters would
be plan Z. He stays at his word means
all five will be around next season.  For
one of them not to be an opposing team
will have to offer quite an offensive player
to no longer be one of the five.

The Mariners  number one purpose during
the off-season will be to acquire someone
for the middle of  the  lineup.  This player
likely  be a third or first baseman.  The
Mariners could  bring g in another second
baseman or a shortstop. We will know
over the next three or four months. No
mistakes  can't  happen  to get into  the
playoffs and we hope the World Series.

Over the next few weeks  will be arbitration
on several  players  and we will expect a
few will be released as well. Free agency
starts in five days and the Mariners don't
have many in that regard right now. Jorge
Polanco had surgery  recently which might
be why he had an off year. The team has
a $12 million option on him. Most likely
they won't  take up the option but we don't
know that for sure. If Polanco  is  released
the Mariners  will have to find someone
to fill the second base spot which they
have done so the last several years with
little  success. The Mariners  go within
the organization or sign a free agent or
acquire someone.  Personally  I  would
like someone who is in the organization
now. I  will  get back to that later.

Now we will  see  what moves take place
in the next few days or weeks. Go M's!

Washington Huskies Men's Basketball

Monday night the Huskies men's
basketball team had an exhibition
game that started out the preseason
though not counted as a win.

The game was against a lower class
school called Western Oregon. The
Huskies won 105-68. The reason to
write this to show who are the starters
and the main players to play for
the Huskies. I am sure one or more played who won't play a lot during
the season or getting into conference
play.

The Huskies began with center Franck
Kepnang the only starter returning
from last year before he was injured
early on the season. The H
went with three guards Tyree Ihenacho,
Mekhi Mason, DJ Davis who led the
game in scoring with 16 points and
forward Great Osobor who came over
from Utah State with head coach
Danny Sprinkle.

In recent years the Huskies have
had a number of players come over
through the transfer portal like former
head coach Mike Hopkins. Unlike
the former coach Sprinkle will try
to have a team that will be long
lasting though a few transfers will
come over as well. The coach hopes
most of those transfers will be guys
that can be bench players or someone
who replaces a starter who has graduated. We hope the Huskies will
have some players who can play two
or three years without breaking up
the team. Success will be the answer
for that.

Forward Wilhelm Breidenbach who is
another returnee from last year and
fellow forward Tyler Harris were the
first substitutions in the game after
four minutes. This was the time
Western Oregon was still in the game
down 9-7.

Freshman Zoom Diallo was the next
guy in followed by forward Chris King
another Husky who stayed from last
year though didn't have much playing
time as a freshman. Also guard Jesse
Butler and center KC Ibewkwe.

The Huskies had two players who are
under scholarship who didn't play.
Guard Luis Kortright out with a
concussion while practicing and
forward Chris Conway out with
an injury not specified. Sounds like
Conway maybe out for a while.

Coach Sprinkle said those who started
may not be the ultimate starters he
went with those who done the best in
the two weeks of camp. Those who came off the bench played the minutes
of the second half. Breidenbach started several times especially when
Kepnang became injured and out for
the season. Whether he starts or not
he will be one of the guys first off the
bench I expect.

The starting lineup could change
in games depending on matchups
and who is playing well. DJ Davis
seems to be the main guard to get
minutes and Osobar at forward.
Center will come down to who
gets into foul trouble. Kepnang
showed the last two years before
injuries he was the heart of the team.
We hope he stays healthy this year.

Next Tuesday night will be the
opening game for the Huskies
in preseason with an opener at
home against UC Davis. Go Dawgs!

Preview Los Angeles Rams At Seattle

The Los Angeles Rams started out slowly however have beaten the
Minnesota Vikings and Las Vegas Raiders in the last two outings.
The Rams are 3-4 while the Seahawks,
Cardinals and 49ers are 4-4.

The Rams have done well against the
Seahawks in recent years no matter
what their record has been.

Right now the Seahawks don't know
whether DK Metcalf will be available
against the Rams or not. It would be
good if he is able to play.

The Seahawks made a move to add
to practice squad well as taking some one off.

Washington Huskies men's basketball
had their first preseason game. Let you know how it went and what the starting rotation looks like next time.

Kraken Win Open Game of Road Trip

The Kraken did a good job knocking
off the Montreal Canadians in the
first of five in current road trip.
Final Kraken 8 Canadians 2

The Kraken scored four goals in
the first period to one by the
Canadians. They had two goals
in the second and third periods.
Brandon Montour had three goals
and an assist.  Chandler Stephenson
had four assists to lead the Kraken.
Both Montour and Stephenson
were signed as free agents during
the offseason.

The Kraken play Toronto on Thursday night. The Kraken now  are 5-4-1 on the season.

Preview USC at Washington

This Saturday afternoon the Trojans
and the Huskies square off at Husky
Stadium. This will be the 88th meeting
between the two teams. For a while
the Trojans dominated the series
when they were one if the top teams
in the country and were winning
multiple conference titles.

Both teams have identical records
at 4-4 with Huskies winning all at
home and losing on the road. The
only difference is the Trojans lost
all on the road except one early
on the season. The only loss at
home for the Trojans was 33-30
against Penn State. The Huskies
have won 18 in a row at home which
is a good sign.

The Trojans and the Huskies have
split the last ten games. Last year's
match up was big and Huskies won
52-42.  Both teams are going with new
quarterbacks. The Huskies will be
favored however this should be a
close and tough game. The Trojans
will want to spoil the Huskies run
at home.

The Huskies are tied with Nebraska
and Michigan for tenth place in the
Big Ten with a 2-3 record. The Trojans
are right behind with 2-4 record in the.
conference. Indiana and Oregon
are tied with 5-0 conference records
while being undefeated overall. The
two teams don't play each other in
the regular season so could square
off in the conference championship
game.  Indiana does face Ohio State
on November 23. Oregon already beat
Ohio State 32-31 on October 12. Oregon
faces  Michigan this Saturday.
The Huskies face Oregon to end
the season on the road. Go Dawgs!

Kraken Road Trip

The Seattle Kraken begin five
game road trip on Tuesday
evening at Montreal against
the Canadians.

The Kraken began their five
game home stand winning
the first two games. It felt
like a slam dunk in winning
the home stand instead lost
the last three.

Both teams have identical records
of 4-4-1. The Canadians  did well
in their last two games while the
Kraken struggled losing their last three.
The first two games of the losing streak they lost by one goal in each
one.  The final game against Carolina
they lost 4-1. The Kraken scored
the lonely goal in the third period.
Carolina scored final two goals
late that period.

Right now the Kraken are struggling
like they have last season where
having trouble scoring in the third
period however giving up goals.

It is important that Kraken beat
the Canadians who are a young
team. The Kraken follow by
playing Toronto on Halloween.
Go Kraken!

Seahawks Lose Big Time

I am most weren't surprised the
Seahawks lost Sunday afternoon
to the Buffalo Bills however how
badly wasn't on the cards.

Final Bills 31 Seahawks 10

A sloppy game by the Seahawks.
On a day with rain running the
ball made sense. The Bills had their defense ready where the Seahawks
carried the ball seventeen times.
Ken Walker lll and Zach Charbonnet
each averaged 1.5 yards per carry.
Walker had 12 yards on nine carries.
Charbonnet had three carries for
four days. He did have a touchdown.
The Seahawks haven't done well
limited running the ball in all four
losses. They need to do.better
for sure. The offensive live needs
help.

The Bills who played on the same
field had 164 yards rushing. James
Cook who could be said the player of
the game rushed 111 yards on 17
carriers and had two touchdowns.

The Seahawks were without DK
Metcalf which didn't help either
were led by Jaxson Smith-Njigba
with six catches for 69 yards.
Unfortunately no touchdowns
by any receivers.

With the score and Cook's runs
the defense didn't play well either.
Ernest Jones IV who the Seahawks
acquired this week to play middle
linebacker led the Seahawks with
eight tackles.

What this sad to is three of the four
losses by the Seahawks have been
on the home field. The Seahawks
have five of the eight games at home
to. Doesn't show a good sign going
ahead. The Seahawks and the Arizona
Cardinals are tied for first place at
4-4. At least this means they still
have a chance at the division title.

The Seahawks next three games
are against division foes so need
to see better play. The Seahawks
will be home again next Sunday
playing the Los Angeles Rams.
We hope for a turn around. Go Hawks!

Cougars Come From Behind

The Washington State Cougars were
favored however they had a difficult
task to do coming from behind on
the road.

The Cougars were favored but if
you have been a fan of theres for
some time they don't always do
well in the fourth quarter. This year
they have done much better in that
area.

The Cougars led by a small margin
in the first half then the SDState
Aztecs had a touchdown in the
third and scored first in the fourth
not making it easy for the Cougars
leading 26-14. Fortunately the
Cougars still had plenty of time
with much of the game to go.

The Cougars scored a touchdown
pass with 12:08 remaing to come
within five pounts. With 5:03 Cougars
quarterback John Mateer ran in for
a two yard touchdown and a two point
conversion. The Aztecs couldn't score
again in a tight game and neither the
Cougars so final was WSU 29 SDState 26.

The Cougars are now 7-1 with four
remaining games. They are showing
to be a difficult team to play especially
down the stretch.  John Mateer right
now is coming down to being one of
the top Cougars quarterback to play.
Not only throwing the ball where he
was 19 for 27 for 257 yards and two
touchdowns he once again ran the
ball leading the Cougars on 21 times
carrying. Although he had only 42 yards
Mateer had two touchdowns rushing.

A find it hard to watch these games
that start at 7:30 pm and don't end
until late in the night. This makes it
impressive as well playing a game
like this on the road.

Next Saturday the Cougars are
scheduled to play Utah State at
home. The time hasn't been
scheduled yet so let you know
on the preview of the game. Go Cougs!

Huskies Lose By Two Touchdowns

The Washington Huskies lost again on the road this time to undefeated Indiana
31-17.

The Huskies didn't have an excuse
as they had a bye week before this game. Obviously they have done
poorly on the road although Indiana
I'd s good team. Overall again the
Huskies had more yardage than the
Hoosiers though not much. The
fact was the Hoosiers had the ball
longer though by three minutes.

Will Roger gave up two interceptions
and the first score with 7:41 minutes
in the first quarter. The second one
happened in the second quarter which also led to a touchdown. The Hoosiers
scored on a 42 yard pass to Omar
Cooper Jr.. Three minutes later Giles
Jackson scored on 6 yard run for the
Huskies making it 14-7. The Hoosiers
kicked a field goal with no time left
on the clock to end the half 17-7.

Freshman quarterback Desmond Williams Jr. fan for a 8 yard run
to put the Huskies down by only
three points. About five minutes
left in the third quarter Justice
Ellison had a touchdown to put
Indiana up by ten 24-14. The end
of the third. quarter.

The Hoosiers were able to get
another touchdown at 8:55 remain
in the game. The Huskies kicked
a field with 6:06 remaining in the
game. They couldn't do anything
more.

Jonah Coleman had 19 carries on
the day for 104 yards. Not a bad day
at 5.5 yards per carry. Unfortunately
he couldn't score. The Huskies
caught 19 balls on the day too.
Next week the Huskies will back
back home for a late afternoon
game against the USC Trojans.
Go Dawgs!

Kraken Lose Two

The Seattle  Kraken won the first two
games  in their five game homestand
however lost the last two.

On Tuesday  they lost to Colorado
who wasn't  playing  well. As I
mentioned  on my lat post on
them that it could be dangerous.

On Thursday night the Kraken  lost
to Winnipeg who are having a good
season 4-3 in overtime.  This was
the first loss in overtime  for the
Kraken.  Positive  they did gain a
point.

On Saturday  the Kraken  take on
the Carolina Hurricanes in the last
game of the homestand.  Winning
out put a positive  stamp on it.
The Kraken will go onto a five game
road trip so makes this one really
important.  Go Kraken!

Preview Buffalo Bills visit Seattle

The Buffalo Bills come to play the
Seattle Seahawks Sunday afternoon.
The Bills are 5-2 while Seahawks
are 4-3.

The Seahawks may have played
their best game last week against
the Falcons in Atlanta.

The Bills are the only team  the
AFC East to have a winning record.
They could run away with the division.

The Bills will be without a couple linebackers, safety, and wide receiver
who are not on injured.

The Seahawks might be without receiver DK Metcalf who  will be a big blow. His
injury isn't as bad as first thought.
The likelihood Jake Bobo will start
in his spot if it happens. Also Laviska
Shenault Jr. who has done well on
kickoffs and Dareke Young will see
some action too.

Two offensive lineman are back in
practice this week for the Seahawks.
Abe Lucas who has been the right
tackle starting until being hurt and
George Fant signed during the offseason
to add depth to the line.  Lucas likely
won't play. Last Sunday rookie Michael
Jerrell started for the first time at
right tackle. He did a fine job so he
could start again. Lucas when healthy
could move to guard to keep from
being banged up.  The Seahawks
have had trouble on the line for years
so change could happen.

News came out that the Seahawks
made a trade on Wednesday acquiring
linebacker Ernest Jones IV from the
Tennessee Titans for linebacker Jerome
Baker and a fourth round pick in next
year's draft. Baker has started five
games for the Seahawks however he
was injured much of training. Both
players are going to become free
agents during the upcoming offseason.
Jones was unable to come to an
agreement with the Titans on a new
deal. Jones was a third round pick
by the LA Rams in 2021 before being
traded to the Titans in August. The
Titans received a 2026 sixth round
pick with Jones while Rams received
a fifth round pick in 2026. The Seahawks
feel it will be an upgrade at the linebacker slot and hope to sign Jones
to an extension.

The Seahawks are 8-6 in the series
against the Bills. The teams have
split the last four times playing.
The last outing Buffalo won at home
on November 8, 2020 44-34. The
Seahawks won the time before at
home 31-25 on November 7, 2016.
The Bills are favored by three and
a half points. So this could be a
close one. Go Hawks!

Preview Washington State at San Diego State

The WSU Cougars are 6-1 heading into
San Diego State to take on the Aztecs.
The Cougars have five games remaining
and are capable of win ing them all.

The Aztec are 3-3 winning two straight
each by a field goal. Last game they
beat Wyoming 27-24. They are led by
quarterback Danny O'Neil who completed 16 of 27 passes.  He
had one touchdown and an interception.
Marquez Cooper ran the ball 25 times for 87 yards and a touchdown. Receiving
they were led by Jordan Napier with
four catches going for 91 yards and a touchdown. The Aztecs even out running
and passing the ball.l

The Cougars are a two touchdown favorite so we could see the Aztecs
running the ball first and passing
more if they get behind by a large margin.

The two teams have played each
other twice. The last time the Aztecs won 42-24 on September 17 2011.

The Cougars are a big favorite
however playing on the road this
could mean an upset though the Cougars have done  well on the
road except their one loss at
Boise State. Go Cougs!

Preview: Washington at Indiana

The Huskies are 2-2 in the Big 12
while Indiana the 13th ranked team
in the nation. Both losses were on
the road. The Hoosiers are 4-0 in
Big Ten and 7-0 altogether. They
have scored over 40 points in each
game. The Huskies defense will
need stand on hold and the offense
will need to do their best.

We know former Huskies quarterback
Michael Penix Jr. was at Indiana before
coming to Washington. He was injured
most of his time at Indiana.

This the first time the Hoosiers have
been 6-0 in the history of the school
and have scored this many points.
They haven't been known as a football
school with an overall record of 489-690
and has 38 ties. The last time they won
the Big Ten was in 1967. They have
winning record three times since 2005
before this season.

The Huskies and the Hoosiers have
only faced each other three times
with Indiana havina a record of 2-1.
Not a large sample size. The Huskies
won their last time in Seattle September
6, 2003  38-13.

The Hoosiers are favored in this game
by seven points. Indiana will be without
starting quarterback Kurtis Rourke with
a thumb injury. Backup qb Tayven Jackson will be taking his spot.

For the Huskies to win they will
need running back Jonah Coleman
to have a good game. Keep Indiana
offense off the field as much as
possible and execute. Go Dawgs!

Seahawks Win Sunday

The Seahawks offense and the defense
to some degree let the team end their
three game losing streak over Atlanta
34-14.

A good sign for the Seahawks. I am sure
they can  do better but ending a losing
streak on the road is a good sign.

The Seahawks had 29 passes thrown
while running 26 times which is a good
sign. Although I would have liked 29
carries and 26 passes I will take this
especially winning. Having the numbers
around fifty percent on both is good.
Seahawks have a good group of receivers so they all need some catches
each.

DK Metcalf just missed out on another
100 yard catching day at 99 and had
a touchdown. He caught four passes
as well as fellow receiver Tyler Lockett.
Tight end Noah Fant had four as well.
Running back Ken Walker lll had a
touchdown on the ground as well as
through the air. The Seahawks doing
a good job getting Walker the ball in
all sorts of ways.

Receiver Jaxson Smith-Njigba caught
three passes and threw one as well. This might not be the last time we see him
throw the ball.

DK Metcalf had an injury in the 4th
quarter where he had to leave the
game. We hope that he doesn't miss
next week's game at home against
the Buffalo Bills which should be a
good game. Now the Seahawks are back in first place and they could  be back
ahead the 49ers are losing to the KC
Chiefs.  Go Hawks!

Kraken Win In Overtime

The Seattle Kraken beat the Calgary
Flames Saturday Night 2-1 to do so.

The Flames scored in the first period
and the Kraken scored in the second
period during a power play.

Jordan Eberle scored the with winning
goal in overtime. Eberle named captain
recently has five goals in six games. A
good way to get the season going.

The Flames hadn't lost their first four
games so this shows how the Kraken
did. Kraken's goalie Joey Daccord had
21 saves some being near misses.
Have to need some luck in a game
like this.

This was an important win as both
teams are in the Pacific division.
Calgary leads the division while
the Kraken are in second place.

Kraken take on Colorado Avalanche
on Tuesday night in the third of the
five game home stand. The Avalanche
are 1-4 so the Kraken will be favored
however have to be worried about a
team that is 1-4 since they have nothing
to lose other than another game. 😊

The Avalanche have a game Sunday
at San Jose Sharks. It should be an
interesting game since they haven't
won a game yet. This could bring the
Avalanche on a high coming to Seattle
or a low depending how the game goes.

We continue to wish the Kraken success
especially this early in the season.
Go Kraken!

Cougars Make It Six

Washington State Saturday afternoon won their sixth game of the season
beating Hawaii 42-10.

Hawaii scored first with a field goal.
Probably one of their most impressive
drives until the Cougars defense was
able to stop them.

The Cougars were able to score 21
unanswered points in the first half.
The last two were on turnovers.
Hawaii was able to score a touchdown
in the third quarter however the
Cougars were able to score 21 more
unanswered points. Again Hawaii
had a turnover leading to another
Cougars touchdown.

The Cougars would have still won
anyway but their defense helped
for sure. John Mateer the Cougars
starting quarterback certainly helped
his team. He completed 23 of 27
passes for 295 yards and three TD's.
We can question Hawaii's defense
however Mateer's completion rate
is still pretty good. He was second
on the team rushing the ball eight
times for 34 yards and two touchdowns.
Have to ssy the way he is playing
he will come down to being one of
the Cougars best quarterbacks of
all time.  Mateer may help to put
the Pac-12 back on the map if they
keep the name of the conference.

Kris Huston  led the Cougars in
catches with one being a touchdown.
It actually looked more like a handoff.
What made the Cougars defense good
besides three turnovers Hawaii didn't
have one third down made. They were
zero for eight.

The Cougars being 6-1 with their
only loss to Boise State will go to
a bowl game and which one will
depend on how they do in their
final five games. Looking at their
schedule they could win all five.
They do play Oregon State in the
next last game of the regular season.
They finish out against Wyoming.

The Beavers are 4-2 on the season.
Not bad at all under a new head
coach and many players who transferred. Teams like Boise State
and Utah State will make the Pac-12
seem viable. At this point they have to
add another school that can have
football team.

Next week the Cougars will play
San Diego State on the road Saturday
night. We will preview the game
during next week. Go Cougs!

Seahawks Running Game

The Seahawks running game hasn't
been what it should be as far as attempts go on the season. A major
reason they are 3-3.

Kenny Walker lll had 103 yards in the
opening game on 20 attempts against
Denver and had one touchdown. Walker
missed the next two games which they
won as well however the Seahawks went
away from the running game.

On average the Seahawks are running
the ball just under 21 times a game. They really should be between 25 and
30 a game to have success. They have
run on first down more often then the
opposing team.

In game two against the Patriots Geno
Smith threw the ball 44 times compared
to 25  times against Denver. Without
Walker they ran 19 times with Geno
carrying the ball five times. The best
marker should be about 30 passes
and 30 carries depending on who
they are playing.

The win against the Dolphins they ran
23 times compared to 34 times. Expecting to be more of a running team
and beating the Dolphins 24 to 3 you
think they run the ball more.

On Monday night football against the
Detroit Lions who beat them 42-29.
Geno Smith passed the ball 56 times
while they ran 19 times. They actually
had more yardage passing and running
the ball than the Lions. Understand they
had to pass in the 4th quarter being
behind.

The terrible loss at home against the
NY Giants the running game was bad
The Seahawks had only eleven running
attempts. Walker had more catches
with seven compared to five running
plays. Smith threw the ball 40 times
though lost by nine though they had
a chance to win despite playing poorly.

Last Thursday night the Seahawks
lost their third game in a row this
time to the 49ers 36-24. The Seahawks
were down by six heading into the
fourth quarter so they had a chance.
They began the game running the
ball however had only three points
in the first half.  Though they wanted
to run more they had 20 carries which
Walker had 14 however the 49ers were
able to allow him only 32 yards although
he had a touchdown. Geno on the
other hand threw the ball 52.

Geno is a good qb on his best days
and not among the best even if his
stats look good passing. Against
the Falcons the Seahawks have to
get back to establishing the run.
I expect the offensive line has some
problem to the running game.

We will look at Geno and the passing game next week after Atlanta on
Sunday. Of course the defense has
criticism as well. We get on that
too. In a couple weeks. Go Hawks!

Kraken Five Game Homestand

On Tuesday the Kraken beat
Nashville on the road 7-3. They
had seven different players
score goals. With the Kraken
having different players scoring
is going to be more common.
Not that they would score seven
goals which would be nice they
have more games where the team
will have more than one player
scoring goals.

The Kraken are home now with a
re ord of 2-2 after taking two out
of the three on the road. Thursday
night the Kraken begin the homestand
against tgr Philadelphia Flyers. Always
be a tough one. The next road trip
will be five games as well. They begin
it against the Montreal Canadians.
Go Kraken!

Slow Period With Mariners

With the league championship series
going on there is not much other news
happening including the Mariners.

Jerry Dipoto said that trading any
of their starting five pitchers would
be plan Z. This would be the last
thing they will do. We will see.

Depending what they get in return
I could see them trading Emerson
Hancock to another team. Being
a multiplayer trade would be the
most likely outcome.

Trades could be talked about now
however nothing will take place
until the World Series is over. I am
sure they are mulling over free agents
who are available after the WS.

In football the Washington Huskies
have a bye this week and then play
at Indiana. Another road game we
hope they can win. Indiana though
is undefeated right now. The game
will be at the same time as the Iowa.
So the first thing you might see in
the morning besides breakfast.
Next week we will have preview of
the game. This weekend we will
see how the Seahawks and the
Cougars do.

I hope you enjoy this site about the
local teams in Washington. Let your
friends know to. Thanks!

Preview Hawaii at Washington State

On Saturday the WSU Cougars had
another close call. They do have 5-1
record. Have the had some luck.
They could have had three more
losses or at least two.

The Cougars now take on Hawaii
in an early afternoon game at home.
Hawaii is 2-4 on the season and
are winless on the road in two games.
The Cougars are favored by 19.5 points.
The two teams have played five times
with Hawaii winning three.

Hawaii lost to Boise State at home
last Saturday 28-7.  Both teams lost
to Boise State however the Cougars
have shown the better of the two
teams.

Hawaii is averaging 21 points while
giving up 20.3 per game. Not a
comparison since they beat their
two opponents by a large margin
while losing a good margin in several
games as well.

Hawaii pass the ball more frequently than running. They  are averaging 266 yards passing while their opponent averaging 193.5 yards  a game. Hawaii is averaging 80.5yards rushing while opponent is at
139.3.

The Cougars on the ground they are at
185 yards a game. Their opponent is averaging 166.5 a game. Most likely they won't give up as many yards on the ground in this one.  In the air the Cougars are
averaging 277 yards a game while giving
up 280 a game.

The Cougars have only two fumbles on
the season and six interceptions. Hawaii
may pass more in this one especially if
they are behind.  Cougars should still
still score at a high level however this
is why they play the game.

Seattle Kraken and Seahawks

The Kraken opened the season last
Tuesday losing to the St. Louis
Blues at home in NHL season opener
3-2. It was odd since the Blues scored
all three goals in the second period
after the Kraken had scored two.

Saturday the Kraken had their first
road game in Minnesota. The Wild
scored a goal in the first and second
periods. It was tied as the Kraken
scored two goals. Both teams had
two goals in the third period ending
in a tie. Last season the Kraken had
a hard time scoring in the third period.
The Kraken won by getting a goal in
overtime.

On Sunday the Kraken were shutout
by the Dallas Stars on the road 2-0.
The Kraken have their third remaining
game on this road trip before coming
home to face the Philadelphia Flyers.

In football the Seahawks made a trade
with the Jacksonville Jaguars acquiring
defensive lineman Roy Robertson-Harris.
The Jacguars will receive a late round
draft pick from the Seahawks in 2026.
I expect which round will depend how he and the Seahawks do. The Seahawks
have had injuries to their defensive line
and so the resson for the trade. The
Seahawks will be facing the Falcons
in Atlanta on Sunday.

Cougars Win On the Road

The game for the WSU Cougars was
a close one heading into the 4th
quarter. The Cougars were leading
16-14. Fresno State Bulldogs were
able to make a drive however they
had to settle for a field goal putting
them up by one.

They were able to stop the Cougars
on their next position. They started
driving like they will score a touchdown
or at least a field goal. The Bulldogs
Mikey Keene made a big mistake
throwing directly to Cougars Cornerback
Ethan O'Connor who returned it for
a touchdown. The Cougars were able
to make the two point conversion to
make the score 25-17.

The Bulldogs had no timeouts and under two minutes remain. Some mistakes on
their part including the kick returning
falling down on the kick return. They
were able to get into place to tie the
score however had  the final play
that went incomplete and the Cougars
won.

The Cougars come home to play Hawaii
next Saturday at 12:30 pm. The Cougars
are now 5-1. One more win the Cougars
should qualify for a bowl game. Not
being in a conference it is hard to know
what bowl game they will.be asked to
play in. They have six games left to play
so they are at the half point line on the
season. Go Cougs!

Huskies Lose On the Road Again

The Huskies are unseated at home
however having trouble doing the
same on the road.

Final Iowa 40 Washington 16

Iowa is not normally a high scoring
team although this the fourth game
they have won scored at least 30 points.
The Huskies again have more yardage
than the opposing team they lost too.
Coach Jedd Fisch said after the game
not only did they played badly it was
weird game.  The Huskies have a bye
week before facing Indiana and again
this game will be on the road. The
Huskies need to find a way and turn
things around.

Kaleb Johnson had a touchdown run
to put the Hawkeyes up 7-0   in the
first quarter. Denzel Boston caught a
pass for a touchdown in second quarter
to tie then Hawkeyes  had a field goal then
Johnson had his second touchdown on
the day and another field goal at the end
of the first half right after the Huskies had
one.

Half time score Iowa 20 Washington 10.
Hawkeyes had a field goal in the third
quarter as the only score of the period.
4th quarter Iowa  had two touchdowns
and a field goal. The Huskies had a touchdown with the second unit to end
the scoring with a long drive. Rashid Williams had his first career touchdown
from Desmond Williams Jr. who completed
12 of 16 for 71 yards.

Interception, fumble and special teams
was the Huskies trouble. In two weeks
the Huskies will be on the road at Indiana.
We see whether they can turn things
around on the road. Go Dawgs!

Gonzaga Men's Basketball Preview

I am sure most have heard Gonzaga
is going to the Pac-12 as it is still
being called  in 2026. The Zags will
be the only non-football school in
the conference at least right now.
The conference right now has eight
schools listed who will make it
coming up. They have to add at least
one more university who plays football.

Gonzaga begins their non-league schedule
on November 4 against Baylor. They
play six non-league games for the WCC
begins on December 30 at Pepperdine.
This schedule will be tough so we will
see how good they are. Besides Baylor
they are followed by Arizona  State,
West Virginia, Kentucky, Connecticut
and UCLA.

The Zags won't look tgecssme as far
as high profile players they do bring
back most of the roster from last season.
At point guard will be Ryan Nembhard
who set a Gonazaga record in assists
last year averaging 6.9 per game while
scoring 12.6 points a game. Again be
important to have the ball in his hands
again.

Shooting guard will be Nolan Hickman
who averaged 14 points a game and
shot 41.3% behind the 3pt. line. At small
forward will be Michael Ajayi who averaged
17.2 points a game and shot 47% behind
the 3pt. line in limited attempts. May see
him take more shots behind the arc this
season.  Ajayi average 9.9 rebounds
last year placing him se Ind in the WCC.

Ben Gregg is expected to be the starting
power forward after taking over the role
during last season. Graham Ike returns
at center where he averaged 16.5 points
a game along with 7.4 rebounds. The
previous two years Ike played at Wyoming.

The bench will be made up of five guys
mainly depending on the rotation. Often
teams will go with eight do the last two
might not get as many minutes. Braden
Huff at forward averaged 13.5 minutes a
game as a true freshman last year scoring
9.3 points a game. Coming in his second
season he most likely will have a bigger
role.

Another one coming into his sophomore
season will be small forward Dusty
Stromer. He averaged pretty good
playing time last year at 23.5 minutes a
game. Stromer averaged 4.8 points
a game however we should see that
go up this season. Another key bench
player is Khalif Battle a point guard
well as shooter. Depending on the
situation he might be the first off the
bench and could start as well. Battle
is an experience player as Gonzaga
will be the fourth school he plays for.
Last season his only at Arkansas he
averaged 14.8 points a game. Battle
starts or comes off the bench he is
a solid newcomer to the Zags.

Emmanuel Innocenti  is expected to
be the ninth player in the rotation.
A transfer from Tarleton State where
he played one year as a true freshman
and started 33 games. Tarleton State
is in the WAC and Innocenti averaged
6.6 points and 6.4 rebounds a game.

Steele Venters guard/forward missed
most of last year with an ACL injury.
The Zags were hoping to have him
this season however he tore his left
Achilles tendon so will miss another
season. The Zags have five other
reserves so we will find out if one
of them will be part of the rotation
or not. Go Zags!

Seahawks Lost Thursday Night

The Seahawks had a slow start to
another game. They did try to
establish the run with Ken Walker 3.
They had the ball at kickoff however
couldn't go anywhere.

Final 49ers 36 Seahawks 24

The Seahawks weren't able to
score in the first half having no
points. They allowed the 49ersar
only a field goal in the first quarter.

The second quarter Samuel caught
and ran for a 76 yard touchdown.
Big plays and turnover cost the
Seahawks. The Seahawks were able
to hold the 49ers to two field goal
though they did a good job running
the ball. The Seahawks were able
to get a field goal before the half ended
SF 16 Sea 3 at half time

The 49ers scored a touchdown first by
George Kittle in the third quarter however
the Seahawks had a kickoff return to
make it SF 23 Sea 10

Ken Walker had a touchdown just over
five and a half minutes remaining in
third quarter to have San Francisco
up by six points.

In the fourth quarter at 7:46 remaining
Geno Smith had a pass intercepted. It turned out to be another George Kittle
touchdown. Tyler Lockett had a catch
for a touchdown to give the Seahawks
a chance. The 49ers had a long run that
setup a six yard touchdown that ends
up burning the Seahawks.

The win allowed the 49ers to tie the
Seahawks for the lead in the division.
Had the Seahawks won it would have
made the 49ers 0-3 in the division
since they had lost to the Rams and
Cardinals. The Seahawks go and play
the Falcons in Atlanta Sunday October
20 while 49ers are home against the
Kansas City Chiefs.

Preview: Seahawks At 49ers
