Hancock Tough Luck First Start

The Detroit Tigers were able to score
six runs in the first inning off Emerson
Hancock. Final score 9-6. There
was some tough luck with hits
dropping in.  Emerson only able
to get two outs.

This was s surprise since the Tigers
were going to use their bullpen.
Both teams used four relievers
each.  Carlos Vargas was the M's
third reliever who went three
and two-thirds giving up four hits
He gave up a run before taken
out on a ball that dropped in front
of outfielders.

The Mariners are expecting Troy
Taylor soon and Matt Brash after
that. Vargas showed that he
could stick around if he continues
to pitch this way.

Hitting department the Mariners
scored a single run from the
second thru the fifth inning
which is a good sign. Arozarena
started by hitting a solo home run
in the second. Luke Raley hit a
homer in the fourth. Cal hit a
two run homer in the ninth to
conclude the Mariners scoring.

Logan Gilbert will make his
second start and any like his
first in the opener the Mariners
have a good shot to win.  They
face another right hander so
likely the same lineup again.
Go M's.

Huskies In The NFL : Tampa Bay Buccaneers

We will look at the Washington Huskies in the NFL by team. We start with the
Tampa Bay as they have most players
with five.

The most recent Huskies drafted
by the  buccaneers last year were
wide receiver Jalen McMillan in
the third round and Delvin Culp
in the seventh round.

McMillan missed half of the season
when the Huskies went to the
National Championship game. The
reason he didn't get drafted until
the third round. He had a good rookie
season with 37 catches and 8
touchdowns. We hope a better season
in 2025-26.

Delvin Culp tight end college career
was mostly a backup player. Being
a seventh pick isn't automatic to
make the NFL. In limited action
Delvin had five catches in five games.
He didn't have any touchdowns however had 88 yards which is an
average of 17.6 per catch. We wish
him a better second season.

Cade Otton tight end was a 4th pick
in 2022 by Buccaneers. He had to
work up and is the team's starting
tight  end. Last season Cade had
59 catches and four touchdowns.
That is good for a tight end and he
had more catches than McMillan.

Greg Gaines defensive tackle was
drafted by the LA Rams in 2019
in the 4th round. He won a Super Bowl
with the Rams. Gaines signed as a
free agent in 2023 with Tampa Bay.
This year he signed his third one-year
contracts with them. He is the backup
nose tackle and gets some good
playing time since it is a tough
position to play.

The longest former Huskies is
Vita Vea the start nose tackle.
He was drafted in the first round
in 2018. Vea has been a pro bowler
twice. He had seven sacks last season.

We will continue on Huskies by teams.
Go Dawgs!

Mariner Win Split Series

The Seattle Mariners beat  A's
2-1 to split the four game series.

The Mariners continue to struggle
at the plate. We hope this is
a lapse starting the season.

Usually it is the pitching that
gets off to a slow start however
not the Mariners.

Sunday the Mariners had only
five however the A's only had
four.

The A's got their one run first on
a homer. Julio Rodriguez hit
the game winner in the sixth
inning hitting a deep one with
Victor Robles on base. There
was no question it was a homer.

Bryan Woo went six innings
followed by Gregory Santos,
Trent Thornton and Andre
Munoz.  Woo gave up three
hits, two walks and struck
out five. Woo threw 76 pitches.
He might be able to go seven
innings longer in the season.

Santos threw ten and retired
all three batters. This was
his second game of the
season. Right now the Mariners
feel it is the inning to pitch him.

Both Thornton and Munoz each
threw 15 pitches. Thornton
walked one and struck out one
and no hits. Munoz gave up a
hit and struck out two. Thornton
and Munoz pitched in the opener.
Santos pitched in game two.

Dylan Moore started at third
in place of Polanco who had
in the previous two games.
Dylan is hitting .333 starting
two games while most of
the lineup is not hitting well.
Garver was dh while Cal was
at catcher. Polanco is hitting
.500 so far as good average
it is he and Moore.

Polanco we can see he still
is having trouble playing defense
at third. I wonder against lefties
Dylan should be at third and
Polanco at second until he
looks better or be at dh. All
depends on Garver. Against
right handers I would have
Moore go in defensively late
in the game depending where
the order is.

The Mariners will start a three
game series against the Detroit
Tigers beginning on Monday.
Emerson Hancock starts for
the Mariners while Jackson
Jobe starts for the Tigers.
Jobs has pitched twice in
relief so it could be the Tigers
bullpen in the series opener.
He is a right hander so should
see Polanco, Raley and Tellez
in the game.

On Tuesday Logan Gilbert will
start against Casey Mize who
hasn't started or pitched yet.
Last year he pitched 22 games
with an era of 4.49 and 2-6
record. He is another right
handed pitcher.

On Wednesday the Mariners will
face a lefty in Tarik Skubal. Last
year he had a great record at 18-4.
Against the Dodgers on the Tigers
opening game he went five innings
and giving up four runs. Three of
the four runs were in the fifth. Tarik
gave up a home run to Teoscar
Hernandez with two runners on base.
We will see what version of him
when he faces the Mariners. Go M's.

Another Tough Loss For Mariners

Saturday night's game was rough
and tough losing second straight
to the A's. Final A's winning 4-2.

The Mariners had Victor Robles
lead off the bottom of the first
with a double. Julio get's hit by
a pitch and Cal Raleigh walks.
It looks like the Mariners are going
to get off to a good start. Arozarena
hits a hard ball up the middle
where second baseman Max Muncy
steps on second to get Julio out
too. With two outs Cal steals second
however Luke Raley strikes out.
The Mariners often didn't score
with the bases loaded with no outs
however this one was tough luck
you may call it. The rest of the
game was much like it the rest
of the game.

The Mariners actually scored first
when Ryan Bliss was stealing second
and the ball was overthrown.

The A's took a lead in the fourth
on a two-run homer. They added
another in the sixth and Mariners
scored a run in the bottom of
the sixth. The A's added their final
run in the top of the seventh.
Mariners had their chances late
in the game.

Besides Robles hit in the first
the rest of the hits was farther
down in the lineup. Polanco, Tellez,
Ryan Bliss and JP Crawford each
had one. Tellez left early as Dylan
Moore came in to pinch hit for
Tellez against a lefty. My question
if the Mariners were pinch hitting
for Tellez why it wasn't Solano.

So far Luke Raley hasn't played
first base yet. It must be his defense.
I am sure most of us thought Raley
was going to be at first base.

Now we have to see how Bryan Woo
will do on Sunday. It is important
he pitches well. So far in his short
career he has dominated the A's.
The Mariners will face another lefty
on the mound. We could see Polanco
have a day off.  Go M's.

WSU , Gonzaga and Washington Huskies Basketball Transfer Portal

Since the men's college basketball
season has ended for Gonzaga
and Washington along with the
Cougars who have a game on
March 31 the transfer portal
has been something else.

All three teams will be busy to
find players through the portal.
At least season doesn't start
until November you want most
if not the players available by
summer this way they can get
to know each other.

Gonaga was going to be busy
anyway with four being done
with eligibility however having
a couple players enter the transfer
portal doesn't help.

The Cougars are going through
the same thing having a couple
starters graduate plus now three
into transfer portal. The Huskies
have to rebuild as well.

The Huskies lost another player
to the transfer portal who came
from France and didn't play in a
game. Not sure the trouble was
that when he expected to play
right away or not when he came
in January.

The Cougars just lost Marcus Wilson
a freshman so makes three into the
portal. It is tough when you lose a
freshman no matter how much or
little he plays. These days though
a team has to promise a lot to keep
the players they have. I don't like
the fact thst teams are recruiting
players on other teams. If the players
want to transfer that is fine thst
is fine though tough but teams
need to stay away until they enter
the portal.

When it comes to the transfer portal
the players have agents which I
think should be a no no as well.
Another thing players shouldn't
be allowed to transfer within the
conference for at least a year.

The Huskies and Cougars have
head coaches now going into
their second season. With the
way of college basketball the
job is even harder. Coaches
shouldn't be recruited either
during the season like what
happened to the Cougars
football team. Players shouldn't
go into the transfer portal until
the season is over and that
includes bowl games. It isn't
only fair to the team but the
fans which is even more important.

That is enough of my opinion
about it. Now we see who the
three schools get in the transfer
portal..Also when May comes
or even April the Cougars and
Huskies may add more football
players for next season. Go teams.

Mariners Shut Out

Most Mariners fans were hoping
for a sweep of the A's  to begin
the season however not meant
to be. Now we hope for three
out of four.

Like most series the Mariners
winning the opening game is
important. Having a winning
season and making the playoffs
is what is most on the signs.

The final score on Friday night
A's 7 Mariners 0

The Mariners scored more runs
in spring training than any team
however the question will they do
so in regular season. Right now
they are not looking so. I hope
Edgar will get them to ride the
ship. They had five hits on the
night and only singles.

Now that the Mariners face the
third pitcher in A's rotation on
Saturday they will do better.

Down on the farm the Tacoma
Rainiers had there season opener.
They beat Round Rock 6-1.
The big hits were by Tyler Locklear
with a two-run homer and Leo
Rivas with a three-run shot.

Logan Evans made his triple-A
debut going three and two-thirds
inning. He gave the one run the
Rainiers surrendered. He gave up
six hits, one walk and struck out
for. The Rainers relievers only
gave up one hit. There was a total
of three relievers.

Cole Young, Harry Ford and Ben
Williamson all made there triple
A debut and each got a hit.
Williamson drove in a run too.

This series against Round Rock
is three. The rest of the season
they play each series at six games.
They go on the road to Reno next
week and return to play Sacramento
on April 8. Each series will be
Tuesday through Sunday and having
Mondays off. So Raniers be home
every other week.

The Mariners double A and Single A
teams begin on April 4th. The
Mariners top prospects Colt Emerson,
Lazaro Montes and Michael Arroyo
will be starting the season at
Single A Everett. All three may move
up to double A at some point in
the season.

Mariners Win Season Opener

The Seattle Mariners offense didn't
look like they were going to follow
through however late in the game
they did some excellent hitting.

Logan Gilbert was into a tight
pitching match with the A's
starter Luis Severino. The Mariners
couldn't get to Severino though
he walked four guys in six innings.
Jorge Polanco during that time
had  two hits for the Mariners.

Logan Gilbert who was pitching
well gave up a home run to
Tyler Soderstrom in the fifth inning.
In the seventh inning the Mariners
were able to tie in seventh inning
on a Victor Robles sacrifice fly.

This is where Logan left with no
run support. In the 8th inning
Soderstrom hit a line drive that ended
up  taking the lead again for the A's.

In the bottom of the 8th Arozarena
hit a home run to tie the game again.
After a Luke Raley walk Polanco
hit a two-run homer. Andre Munoz
closed the game. He walked a
batter than struck out Rooker for
tge fourth straight time for M's.
Bleday hit one to JP Crawford
who tagged the runner and got
Bledsay at first.

The final Mariners 4  A's 2

The Mariners and Astros are tied
as Houston beat the Mets 3 to 1.
The Mets actually had the bases
loaded in the ninth but couldn't
bring in enough runs.

Both the Texas Rangers and
LA Angels lost their season
openers. The Mariners crowd
was noise all game long.
Well we expect it as time goes
on.

Luis Castillo starts Friday.
Let's see the Mariners win
another.

This season the hitters see
to look to hit smarter. We hope
more runs earlier. Go M's.

Thursday March 27 Opening Day MLB

For baseball fans the opening day
of major league baseball is always
a joy.

The Seattle Mariners will be at
home facing the A's (formerly
Oakland). Logan Gilbert will
be making his first opening
day start for the Mariners while
Luis Severino for the A's.

Both pitchers are right handed
so the Mariners likely will have
Rowdy Tellez hitting at dh. Tellez
who the Mariners signed in the
offseason to a minor league
contract made the team. Luke
Raley will play first base much
of the time, however we will
see Tellez playing there against
righties. Donovan Solano who
the Mariners signed as a free
agent will play first base against
lefties. On occasion we may see
him play at third base too.

Mitch Garver will likely be the
main dh along with being the
backup catcher against lefties.
Other players will dh as well
especially position starters
need a day off. Randy Arozarena
who will start on left field will
be the one who will likely dh
more than the other position
players though we could see
Jorge Polanco doing so when
not playing third base several
times too.

There was a thought that Mitch
Haniger would be the main guy
to dh however he didn't play
a game after March 6 for injury
to a shoulder. The Mariners
decided to release the veteran
player instead though having
to still pay him over $15 million
on his last year of his contract.

On Tuesday Cal Raleigh signed
a six year contract for $105 million
plus incentives. Raleigh not only
the best defensive catcher winning
the gold glove for the best in the
American League as well as the
Platinum as the best overall
catcher. We will likely see Cal
behind the plate a lot. When
he needs relief he likely will
be the dh on most occasions.
Garver we will likely see him
at catcher on a Saturday or
Sunday. When the Mariners
have a day off on Monday
playing Garver is the best
choice so Cal will have two
days off from catching.

Ryan Bliss won the job as the
starting second baseman over
Dylan Moore who will still be
the Mariners primary utility
player. Also Miles Mastrobuoni
who tge Mariners acquired
from the Chicago Cubs will
be a utility player as well. A
left handed bat we may see
him on occasion at second
and third though he can play
the outfield too. Bliss is excited
since this will be his first year
starting the season in the majors.

Emerson Hancock will start the
season in the starting rotation
as George Kirby will be on the
injured list. Kirby should be able
to be back sometime in April.
The bullpen will look a lot like
last season with only adding
Carlos Vargas who played at
Tacoma last season. Troy Taylor
who was expected in the bullpen
will start the season. He and
Matt Brash who missed all of
last season should return in mid
to late April.

The opening ceremonies we will
see all the playerd introduced.
Also Ichiro who will be going
into the Hall of Fame this year
will throw out the ceremony first
pitch.

We hope for the Mariners to win
the opening game as well as the
series. The Mariners will be
competing to win the American
League West Division against
the Houston Astros and the Texas
Rsngers. The Los Angeles Angels
and the A's are long shots to win.
Go M's.

Report On Wide Receiver Stefon Diggs

There were reports that Houston
Texans wide receiver Stefon Diggs
was  going to sign with the Seahawks
as a free agent a few days ago.

Landing Diggs would have given
the Seahawks four new receivers.
Fortunately the Seahawks didn't
count their chickens before they
were hatched.

Though Diggs may have been nice
to make it an outstanding group
of receivers he signed a three year
deal with the New England Patriots
for $68 million.

A big surprise since he came off
an acl injury and he 31 years old.
Of course the Seahawks wouldn't
touch thst amount. The would
have signed DK Metcalf to that
kind of money if they wanted to
spend that amount on a wide
receiver.

It is likely the Seahawks won't
go for another receiver who
maybe on the market.

We do hope the Seahawks can
land a productive offensive
lineman and possibly a tight
end as well. They may go for
it in the NFL draft too.
Go Hawks.

Mariners Sign Cal Raleigh To extension

When we thought there would be
no news on the Mariners  until
opening day we were wrong.

News came out the Mariners signed
catcher Cal Raleigh to a six year
contract for at least $105 million.
It can be more than that with incentives. I expect he will get
bonuses for making the all-star
team and more gold gloves as
well.

This is great for him and the Mariners
together.  Next up would be to sign
his buddy and the  one who will
start the season opener in Logan Gilbert.

Roddy Tellez is on the roster as
well. He will be spending some
time at dh as well as first base.
I thought when the Mariners signed
him to a minor league deal and invited
to camp why we need another first
baseman. The loss of Mitch Haniger
means that Luke Raley will spend
some time out there and Dylan
Moore can to if they need another
right handed bat and one of the
three starting outfielders needs
a day off in the field.

Noe the question what will Harry
Ford long term plans be with the
Mariners will they trade him or
move him elsewhere on the field.
They do move him will he play
catcher on occasion too.
The answers will come some day.
Go M's.

College Basketball Transfer Portal Begins Tuesday

I think it is odd that the transfer portal  begins
in the middle  of March Madness however
college football  transfer begins during
college bowl  games too. College football
will have another round in April  during teams
spring  practices.

Washington  Huskies  are looking into the
transfer portal  to  find six players that can
help their squad. The Huskies  have three
starters who are still on their roster. Zoom
Diallo  is still expected to return as he recently
signed a NIL.  Not sure of the other two.

Recently  the WSU  Cougars  had Isaiah  Watts
and Nate Calmese  enter the transfer  portal.
Having two other starters out of eligibility leaves
one left at this in LaJuan Watts who was the
team's  leading rebounder. Not sure how many
players the Cougars will look into the transfer
portal themselves  they will have to replace at
least four guys at this time. Even with incoming
freshmen the portal  will  still needed  since
they will  be playing another season in the tough
West Coast Conference.

This season  St.Mary's  and  Gonzaga were the
only team's to make the NCAA Men's Tournament
from the WCC  and they both lost in the second
round so they will look to improve as well as the
other teams. This won't  be easy for the Cougars
even if Isaiah Watts and Nate Calmese were
coming back.

Sophomore  Dusty Stromer one of the top
reserves on the Gonzaga Bulldogs  announced
he is going into  the transfer portal on Tuesday.
He is one the Huskies and Cougars could
look at to transfer. Both teams want to get
better.  The Bulldogs  though have four
starters that are graduating and no news about
Braden Huff who became a starter in the last
four games and Graham Ike who has another
year  of eligibility left. The Bulldogs  could
look at seven players transferring  in.

We wish a lot to all three programs along
with the players staying and leaving. We
wish the best those whose college careers
are done and the future in basketball or
whatever they do.

Mariners Tie Final Game of Spring and Roster Set

The Seattle Mariners and the
San Diego Padres tied Monday
afternoon 7-7.  The Mariners
are on the way home to play
the A's on Thursday night.

Most of the starters only played
enough to get one or two at bats.
The rest of the way they went
with minor leaguers. The best
minor leaguer in this game was
Axel Sanchez who came in for
JP Crawford. He hadn't played
in one of the Mariners spring
games until this one ever. He had
a triple and a home run in his
two hits and drove in three runs
in four at bats.

Last two years Sanchez played
at single A Everett however batted
just under .200. Sanchez is 22
years old and from the Dominican
Republic. We wish the best season
for him.

Great news was Matt Brash made
his first and only appearance in
the spring after being out last
season with Tommy John surgery.
He three 12 pitches for two outs,
walked on and struck out two.
We may see him in a Mariners
game in about a month.

The starting rotation along with
starting position players were
set. Emerson Hancock taking
George Kirby's spot while he
is on the injured list.

Ryan Bliss won the second base
job. Dylan Moore will see some
action there as well.

The other bench players besides
Garver as backup catcher and DH
wiil Dylan Moore, Miles Mastrobuoni
who play mostly infield however
can go into the outfield, Rowdy
Tellez at first and DH and Donovan
Solano at first and third mostly.
Solano will platoon against lefties
with Luke Raley. Jorge Polanco
needs a day off go there. The
versatile of the bench we will
see guys moving to different spots.

The bullpen will look like it mostly
did at the end of last season. Troy
Taylor who had a good late season
with the Mariners will start on the
injured list. Carlos Vargas who is
out of options will be the last guy
in the bullpen. He pitched at
Tacoma last year in.55 games
with an era of 3.54 and a record
of 2-5. That is good in the Pacific
Coast League. We wish him the
best..Go.M's.

Mitch Haniger Released and More

The Seattle Mariners last year before
training camp they traded to have
Mitch Haniger back. Like most of
the offense Haniger didn't have a
good year.

We were hoping this year he might
rebound and be the right handed
dh however it wasn't meant to be
having a bad shoulder. His shoulder
must be worse than we thought.
I know about shoulders since mine
has been hurting for three years
off and on.

Mitch was a fan favorite when he
was healthy. The trade the Mariners
had with Arizona Diamondbacks he
was the best player the Mariners
received in return. He even made
the all-star team.

The Mariners made some other
moves as well. Included being
sent down were catchers Blake
Hunt and Harry Ford. They maybe
sharing time st triple A Tacoma.
Both had good spring training
so something happens in the
catching position one will come
up. Ford we could see him playing
other places besides catcher when
he isn't behind the plate. Probably
dh and left field as an example.

The Mariners have 12 position
players on the roster. This means Rowdy Tellez likely made the time
and they have to add him since he
was not on the 40-man roster
during the spring and was invited
as he signed a minor league deal.

Tellez did a fine job with the odds
of making it. The Mariners already
had Luke Raley and Donovan Solano
who were figured to platoon at
first base. Tellez likely will be the
left handed hitting dh while Mitch
Garver will be except when he plays
behind the plate. Occasionally he
will play first base when Raley
is in the outfield.

Sunday the Mariners beat Milwaukee
10-6. The Brewers were leading
going into the bottom of the 8th
when they scored seven runs. Julio
hit a grand slam followed by Cal
Raleigh who hit his second home run
in the game. Both look ready to go.

Bryce Miller started going five and
one-thirds innings giving up four
runs however two were earned.

Monday Bryan Woo will start against
the San Diego Padres in Peoria. After
the game the team will fly to Seattle
to open Thursday.

Let you know this game goes
and any additional moves. Go M's.

Gonzaga Loses to Number One Houston

It was hard to expect Gonzaga
to win this ball game however
they worked had to do so.

Houston was ahead as much as
14 points in this ballgame.
They fought hard enough to
come within four points at
76-72 with 1:20 remaining in
the ball game.

The Zags were able to get
within one point under one
minute remaining. The trouble
was at that point they were
out of time outs so they had
to foul. Within seconds they
could have tied however
Houston's defense was good
enough for the Zags to make
 a turnover than they fouled
and two free throws were
made to clinch the victory.

The Zags did a great job to
get back in and can't ask for
much more than that. The
end also ended the Zags
streak of nine in a row making
tge Sweet Sixteen. Houston
is now the longest at five in a row.

The Zags were led by Graham
Like with 27 points. Khalif Battle
had 17 points in his last college
basketball game.

The stats were close though
Houston took more shots.
Now we see what the future
looks for the Zags.

With Two Games Remaining Now Mariners Win Saturday

The team near the end of spring
training gives more of an idea
than any other time of the spring

The White Sox who had the worst
record last year may not be much
better. The Seattle Mariners beat
them 14-1.

Luis Castillo went five and one-thirds
innings. He walked two and struck
out three for the Mariners. He has
looked this spring.

The White Sox pitching gave up
12 walks on the day. The Mariners
didn't even score from the seventh
inning on. Victor Robles who was
having a good game got hit by a
pitch and was taken out. After the
game Manager Dan Wilson said he
should be OK. I don't expect him
to play on Sunday.

Donovan Solano, Julio and Randy
Arozarena each had a home run.
Solano drove in three runs, Julio
four and Arozarena one.

Sunday afternoon Bryce Miller
against Milwaukee. He will start
Sunday the third gsme against
the A's to start the season next
Saturday. Go M's.

The Mariners  sent down Dominique
Canzone  and a couple of pitchers.
Still more moves too make Sunday
and Monday.

Seahawks Sign A Receiver With Local Ties

The Seahawks signed former
Washington State Cougar River
Cracraft as a free agent.

Cracraft is now the third wide
receiver they have signed since
releasing Tyler Lockett was
released and DK Metcalf was
traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Cracraft adds depth to the
receiving core. He is a veteran
of seven years in the NFL.
The Seahawks will be his fourth
team. He started on the practice
squad of the Denver Broncos
in 2017. In 2018 he played eight
games for Denver. Cracraft moved
on to the San Francisco for two
years and the last three with Miami.

His career he has been on special
teams return punts and kickoffs
as well. Most likely he is competing
for the third wide receiver spot.

The Seahawks also resigned Josh
Ross linebacker who they picked
up off of waivers last year from
Baltimore to add depth. He played
mostly special teams however depth
to linebacker in case of injury.

Now we are still hoping the Seahawks
will sign an impact offensive lineman.
It maybe difficult since eight top ones
in free agency signed elsewhere.
I suppose they could trade for one
but I don't that happens often since
teams try to keep their good ones.

Whether the Seahawks are able to
pick up lineman they will likely draft
one. Will it be in the first round hard
to know. The Seahawks will draft
tge best available at time no matter
what position.  Go Hawks.

Mariners Lose Another Split Squad Game

Logan Gilbert started against the
Cincinnati Red in Peoria in his
final game of the.

He went five and two-thirds
innings. Gave up three runs.
At the time Logan left the game
was tied.He gave up two home
runs.

Cincinnati's opening starter
sent five innings and gave
up a homer. His was to Victor
Robles leading off the game.

Julio Rodriguez played after
being sick most of the week.
He didn't have s hit however
hr did have a sacrifice fly
driving Ryan Bliss.

The other game Kansas City
Royals won 8-7. The big blow
was Trent Thornton who gave
up four runs in the sixth inning.
The game was that close with
the Mariners scoring four runs
in the ninth to make it interesting.
Included was a home run from
Dylan Moore who has struggeld
most of the spring. Maybe a good
sign.

Miles Mastrobuoni who is trying
to make the team as a bench
player had three hits. He is hitting
.483. See if it is enough. He played
third base in this one.

Randy Arozarena is having a good
spring had a double and home
run.

Possibly Sunday we will have a
better idea who makes the squad.

Luis Castillo will start Saturday
followed by Bryce Miller on Sunday.
Bryan Woo will start in the last
spring training on Monday. Go M's.

Seahawks No Go at Offensive Line

I think most Seattle Seahawks fans
thought they would have signed
at least one offensive lineman
this week.

It hasn't happened yet. The trouble
mainly which is a team tradition
they were not willing to pay top
dollar as yet.

The Seahawks could be thinking
the current personal can learn the
new scheme and likely they will
draft at least lineman since two
have signed elsewhere through
free agent. I guess we will see
wishful thinking or not.

The Seahawks line for the most
part have done well in blocking
for the pass however being one
of the worse running teams though
a group of running backs is the
problem. We will continue to see
whether it can. Improve. This especially true when the emphasis
is expected in the running game.

In men's college basketball Christian
King redshirt freshman for the
Washington Huskies hss decided
to enter the transfer portal.

At times last season he did get in some playing time however not
enough to stay. King has three years
of eligibility remaining. My advice
would be to go to a smaller school
for at least a year and see how it
goes.

Currently the Huskies have a ten man
depth chart. Coach Danny Sprinkle
wants to improve each position over
last season. How many fit the bill
and who in the transfer portal can
improve them. We will see. Go Dawgs.

Gonzaga Wins First round in March madness

Gonzaga played an early afternoon
game against Georgia in the first
round of NCAA men's tournament.

Everyone who has watched many
of these knows that upsets happen.
Gonzaga is a number eight seed
while Georgia was nine. It was
expected to be a close match however
never know one way or another.

Gonzaga got off to a great start making the score 11-0. Georgia
made some turnovers early.
The Zags got off to shooting 3s
early to. On the day they shot
3s at sixty percent. At halftime
the Zags led by 21 points which
was the difference at the end
since both teams scored 41 in
the second half.

The game might have been a big
blowout however Georgia made
ten more free throws on fourteen
more shots.

Gonzaga was led by Khalif Battle
with 24 points. Braden Huff and
Nolan Hickman each had 18 while
Graham Ike had 13 with the only
ones in double figures.

This was the third game in a row
that Huff has started after coming
off the bench before then. The
Zags have been playing much
better since Huff has been starting.

The Zags play Houston who is
number one seed in their region.
It will take an upset for Gonzaga
to win on Saturday and advance
to thr sweet sixteen. Go Zags.

Mariners Have Thursday Off

Next Thursday the Seattle Mariners
season behind at home against the
A's.

Logan Gilbert will start the opening
game after Luis Castillo started ones
since he was acquired from the
Cincinnati Reds. There was talk
that the Mariners may trade him
during the offseason however nothing
came of it.

The starting rotation was set before
spring training began though Emerson
Hancock hss to be the fifth starter
to begin the season as George Kirby
has to begin on the injured list.

Cal Raleigh will be the starting catcher
as expected and Mitch Garver will
be the backup. Garver having a good
spring training may be the right handed
dh as well when not catching. Cal may
dh when he isn't behind the plate.

Luke Raley is expected to be the
starting first baseman though he
will be the fourth outfielder as well
against righties. Dominic Canzone
might be the fifth outfielder if he
makes the team as well. Like Raley
he is a left-handed bat. We may see
Dylan Moore out there as a right
handed bat. This will depend how
Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez
and Victor Robles are doing especially
being healthy.

Raley and Donavon Solano are
expected to platoon first base.
The Mariners have an additional
player in Rowdy Tellez that may
make the opening day roster.
Tellez makes the team he will
likely be the dh against righties
and on occasion be at first base
if Raley is in the outfield or needs
a day off. Solano is expected to
be starting at first base against
lefties.

Ryan Bliss is expected to be the
starting second baseman. Dylan
Moore may start against some
tough left handed pitching or
Bliss has started several games
in a row. The Mariners have other
options on who may make the team.
There is Miles Mastrobuoni who
could make the team. During camp
he has played second, third and
the outfield. Austin Shenton who
can play second, third and first.
Leo Rivas who played some second,
third and shortstop is another
option too.

JP Crawford will be starting at
shortstop. Dylan Moore and
Ryan Bliss can play there too.
Second base is Dylan's best
spot defensively so we could
see Bliss at short when JP
needs a day off.

Jorge Polanco is expected to
start at third base. Solano played
a lot during camp so he might
be the first choice to play third
behind Polanco though they
have other options.

The bullpen we start with Andre
Munoz as the closer. Trent Thornton
may be the first out of the bullpen or
Colin Snider. Depending on the
score we could see Eduardo Bazardo
in that role. Most likely if the starter
only last four or five innings.

Gregory Santos is supposed to be
the guy to setup Munoz. He might
close on occasion too. It is important
how healthy he stays. Troy Taylor was
expected in the mix for sixth and
seventh inning as well however he was
hurt before camp and hasn't pitched
any innings in spring training. The
likelihood he will start the season
on injured list. Casey Leguumina
could be the guy to take his spot
at the beginning of the season.
Casey was traded to the Mariners
from the Cincinnati Reds for cash.

That looks at the possibility of the
Mariners roster however a trade
could happen. Go M's.

Another Spring Win For Mariners

Tge Seattle Mariners played and
best there division rival the Texas
Rangers on Wednesday. The final
was 3-2.

The Mariners had a lineup that
look to be against lefties since
they were facing Jacob  deGrom.
They did have Rowdy Tellez a left
handed bat at first base.  A spring
training invite he may be first base
and dh if he makes the team mostly
against righties.

Jorge Polanco at third had a home
run and so did JP Crawford for the
Mariners both solos. In all the Mariners
had five hits. Again they didn't have
Julio in the lineup.

Emerson Hancock started and went
four innings giving up a solo home
run in the first inning. He walked
one and struck out four. News is
that George Kirby will be left back
in Arizona and might be out until
mid or late April. Hancock is showing
he maybe an able fifth starter.

The Mariners will have Thursday
off and Logan Gilbert will have his
final tuneup before opening game.
The Mariners will have a split squad
so minor leaguer Logan Evans
will start in the other game.

Saturday, Sunday and Monday
will be the final three spring
games. The starting will start
Thursday at home. We should
have the final roster setup in
the next few days. Go M's.

The Transfer Portal and the WSU Cougars

Next Monday is the beginning
of the transfer portal for college
basketball.I know the regular
season is over however the
post season is not. I wish they
would wait until April to do so.
It is only a couple additional
weeks.

The Washington State Cougars
will be taking on Georgetown
in a new post season tournament
on March 31. News came out
thst Isaiah Watts is entering the
transfer portal. A key loss going
into next season and so he won't
be playing against Georgetown.

Recently Isaiah lost his grandfather
Slick. A former Seattle Supersonic
that many of us watched him play.
Isaiah's father Donald played for
Washington Huskies. Growing up
in Seattle be interesting to see
whether he will go to Washington
or decide to go elsewhere.

The Cougars starting fowards who
had good season's for them Erik
Erikstrup and Ethan Price are
graduating. So for now that is
sixty percent of their starting
five.

As of now LeJuan Watts who
is not related to Isaiah and
Nate Calmese are the only
returning starters at this point.
Calmese is a former Husky
who led the Cougars in scoring
while LeJuan was the leading
rebounder

Freshman Tomas Valur Prastarson
an international player from Island
will likely start in Isaiah's spot
as he did when he was out with
injury earlier on in the season.
He to.made the West Coast Conference all freshman team.

We let you know how the Cougars
will do in acquiring incoming
freshmen and any through the
transfer portal. The Cougars hope
to improve over the sixth place
finish in the tough West Coast
Conference. Go Cougs!

Mariners Win with six games remaining in spring

The Seattle Mariners won Tuesday
afternoon over the Milwaukee Brewers
9-3.

Bryan Woo got off to a rough
start giving up three runs. After
that he settled down going five
innings. Cal Raleigh got the
Mariners going in the third
inning with a home run. The
Mariners scored four runs
and never looked back.

In the fifth inning Luke Raley
and Randy Arozarena each
hit a double to score to more
runs. In the sixth Victor Robles
hit a three-run homer to end
the scoring.

The Mariners play the Texas
Rangers on Wednesday with
Emerson Hancock starting.
The Mariners have six remaining
spring games including Wednesday.
Thursday is a day off. A split
squad on Friday. So leaves
single games Saturday, Sunday
and Monday. The last game will
be against the Padres.

The Mariners have next Tuesday
and Wednesday off before facing
the A's on Thursday March 27
in Seattle.

The Mariners still have 17 pitchers
still in camp on the 40 man roster.
The Mariners have 17 position
players on the same 40 man roster
as well. Right now they have
39 total out of 40 on the roster.
George Kirby likely will start the
season on the injured list and
the same goes to Matt Brash.
That means three nonroster
players could make the team
without taking anyone else off.
Mitch Haniger hasn't played
since March 4 so he could make
it four.

This means having 13 pitchers
and position players the Mariners
have to cut at least four pitchers
and four position players depending
whether any non-roster players make
it.

At this point Brandyn Garcia a lefty
is the best chance to make the
bullpen. Rowdy Tellez is the best
chance to be the only position
player not on the 40-man roster
to make the team. He is a left
handed hitting first baseman
and dh who has had a very good
spring so far. If Mitch Haniger is
on the injured list he likely will
make it and may anyway.

Tellez is currently hitting .297
in spring with three home runs
and four RBIs. He has only struck
out seven times. The Mariners
like guys who can play more
than one position which is downfall
however he could still make it.

The Mariners have nine position players plus four bench players.
Mitch Garver counts as dh along
with being the second catcher.
Donovan Solano will be the 2nd
first baseman who can play third
as well. Dylan Moore should be
the utility player so that leaves
two other spots. We will see how
that irons out.  Go M's

Washington Huskies and Washington State Cougars

Coming soon for the Washington
Huskies and Washington State
Cougars spring football begins
soon.

The Huskies spring camp begins
on April 1. The Cougars should be
about the same time.

We will see who are the starters and
thr second unit. The Huskies spring
game will be on May 2. After that
we will see the transfer portal open
up and both teams will look to see
where the weak spots are and see
who can fit in. The Huskies being
in the Big Ten will have a better
chance to bring in new transfer.

The Cougars are in the same spot
as the Huskies were last year by
losing their coaches as well.as
quarterback from last season.

Many of the Huskies lost from
last season were walkons. Not
sure how many have signed
elsewhere however the Cougars
could sign a few.

We do hope the Cougars can be
competitive.  The Huskies hope
to have a better team to compete
in the Big Ten. The Huskies need
to look more like Michigan and
Oregon.

News came out the Cougars
men's basketball team will
play in a new post season
tournament. The name is
College Basketball Crown.

The  Cougars will be one
of 16 teams. They  will have
Oregon State in as well.
Some others.will be former
Pac-12 teams in Arizona State,
Colorado, USC and Utah.
The Cougars will play
Georgetown March 31. All
games will be played in
Las Vegas.

The Cougars women team will
be playing in.the WNIT. They
have a bye in the first round.
Go Cougs.

Ten Days Until Opening Day

It is amazing  to think the Mariners  opening
day is in ten days. In fact Monday  they
lost to the A's  who they will play on the
opening series  at home beginning on
March 27.

It is odd to call the A's  just that instead
of the Oakland A's.  This season  they
have home games in Sacramento California.
They are supposed to be moving to Las
Vegas eventually so in the meantime the A's.

The A's  won Monday 7-6 in a walkoff
fashion. The Mariners  lineup was
some starters as well  as guys who
are trying to make the team. Julio
was scratched from the opening
lineup before game started. It isn't
serious he just wasn't  feeling well.

Luke Raley who should be the opening
starter at first base started in center
field in place of Julio. He actually
made an outstanding catch in the
game. Besides first base Raley should
be the 4th outfielder. We may see Dylan
Moore out there when he isn't playing
at second, third and shortstop. At this
point he should be the utility  player
once again.

Casey  Lawrence  who was sent down
and likely  playing at triple-A Tacoma
started the game. He gave up four of
the seven ŕuns. He went four and
two-thirds innings giving up a solo
home run and a three-run homer.
I saw him pitch last year in Tacoma
and don't  understand  why he is
still in the organization.

Jesse Hahn a veteran reliever
finished of the fifth inning. Most
likely  he will start the season at
Tacoma however we could see
him in Seattle sometime  in 2025.
Mariners  have had success
stories like him.

Gregory  Santos followed  him
going an inning and gave up a
run. The importance is that he
stays healthy  since he will start
the season  as the setup man
for Andre Munoz  until at least
Matt Brash joins in.

Colin Snider followed Santos
for an inning. He gave up just
a hit but no runs. Colin was the
surprise reliever on last year's
tea. We could see him come in
the game anytime including
setting up for Munoz depending
how much Santos is used.

Gabe Speier who has recovered
from an injury last season went
one inning and gave up a run.
Not serious about him right now
as long as he stays healthy.

Brandyn Garcia  another lefty
pitched the 9th. He gave up
the walkoff  run however it
wasn't  earned. At this time
time not sure he has made
the team or sent to double-A
or triple-A.  Last year he started
at single A Everett before going
to double-A.  A former starter
Garcia could pitch long relief.
Expect himon the team at some
point even if not on day one.

We will continue  to look, at the
guys who are still looking at
making the team. The Mariners
still have about 15 players to
cut down to the 26 man roster.
Expect ten to be done real soon.

Mitch Haniger hasn't  played a
game since March 6 because of
injury to a shoulder so he could
end up starting  the season on
the injured list. It is still tough
to know what his future  is on
the Mariners  though he is owed
a lot of money. If he is not
starting  the season  a lot
depends how well Mitch Garver
does hitting as dh against lefties.
Right now Haniger would be the
extra outfielder  only if they are
facing a lefty and Arozarena,
Robles, or Julio are hurt or need
a day off on the field against
a lefty. Right now Raley looks to
be the guy in the outfield  against
righties  when he isn't  at first base.
Raley I  expect is playing some
in the outfield  so he would be
ready to go when needed.

Tuesday  Bryan Woo  will start
against the Brewers in Peoria.
Any other news on the Mariners
let you know on Tuesday.
Go M's.

Bryce Miller Helps To End Spring Losing Streak

Bryce Miller pitched a good game
to end spring training losing streak.
Milker went five innings while giving
up two and one run on 62 pitches.
If he pitches a lot this way in the
regular season he will win a lot of
games.

Along with two hits Miller walked
one batter and seven strike outs.
His one run given up was in the
second inning. The Mariners first
one came in the fifth inning and
another in the sixth for him to
record the victory.

The 9th inning the Mariners scored
four runs and Cincinnati Red had
two to make the final score  8-3.

Much of the lineup for the Mariners
were guys that are trying to make
the 26 spot on the roster. Dylan
Moore, Donovan Solano and Mitch
Garver were the only ones who
likely on the team..The bullpen
were Tayler Saucedo, Andre Munoz
and Trent Thornton all who went an
inning without giving up a hit.

The final reliever was right handed
minor leaguer Charlie Beilenson who gave up the two runs in the 9th inning  with two solo home runs. Besides
he did strike out two Reds.

On Monday afternoon the Mariners
have an away game against the A's.
Casey Lawrence who was sent to
minor league camp will start. Go M's.

While the Mariners were playing
Gonzaga Bulldogs found out where
and who they were playing in the
first round of the NCAA men's
basketball tournament. They are
the number eight seed and take
on the Georgia Bulldogs. They are
playing in the Midwest Region.
Georgia is ninth seed and they will
be playing Thursday.

At Climate Pledge Arena will have
four first round gamed in Seattle.
Two teams familiar to Seattle
Arizona seeded #4 will take Akron
in the east region. Also in the East
region will be #5 Oregon against
Liberty which is #12.

From the West region will be #4
Maryland against #13 Grand Canyon.
Also #5 Memphis against #12
Colorado State. We will have to
see whether any upsets at all.

Sort of a surprise St. Mary's is
the only other West Coast
Conference to make the tournament.
They are a 7th seed against #10
Vanderbilt in the east region.

In all the Big ten had eight teams
in the tournament. Michigan beat
Wisconsin to be in automatically.
We wish all the team's the best.

Update On Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament

Sunday Michigan and Wisconsin
play in the title game. It starts
about 30 minutes before the
Seattle Mariners spring training
game.

Both teams barely made it in.
Michigan beat Maryland by one
point while Wisconsin beat
Michigan State by three on
Saturday in the semifinals.

The title game should be exciting
and both teams should go to
the bigger dance. May see
Michigan State and Maryland
as well.

The Oregon Ducks lost Friday
to Michigan State  by ten.
The Ducks seeded 8th in
the tournament I am sure
won't go to the bigger dance.

Keep enjoying good college
basketball. Late Sunday afternoon
we will know where Gonzaga
play in the first round of the
NCAA tournament. Go Zags.

Mariners Lose Split Games

The Seattle Mariners haven't done
well in split squads so far. Fortunately
the games don't count.

In game one Logan Gilbert gave up
three runs in four innings. He gave up
a solo home run in the second.
One thing he could do is cut down
on home runs.

Logan last year looked like a Cy Young
winner however he had a 9-12 record
since he had little run support.  News
came out that Logan will be the opening day starter. Who follows him
is hard to know.

The final was San Francisco Giants
6-2.

The Mariners didn't have much hitting
and the two runs unearned.  They
had three hits by Donovan Solano,
Dominic Canzone and Cole Young.

In the second game the Mariners
lost to the San Diego Padres  8-3.
In this one the Mariners had five
hits. Randy Arozarena hit a home
run in the 4th inning to tie at 2-2.
Pretty much the Padres the rest
of the way.

Arozarena had two hits as well
as Ryan Bliss who had a double
and scored twice. Don't expect
a lot of home runs however he
could have a lot of doubles with
his speed. Right now he looks to
be the starter at second. Blake
Hunt had the fifth hit as he came
in for Mitch Garver at catcher.
It was his first game since he was
injured last Monday and thought
he might miss some time.

Bryce Miller takes the mound
against the Cincinnati Reds
on Sunday. At this point he
looks to be the third starter
though on the Mariners it
doesn't look like any difference.
So he will start in two weeks
against the A's on the 29th.

Seth Martinez who gave up
four runs on Wednesday in
his only appearance with
the Mariners was put on
waivers and the Miami Marlins
reclaimed off of waivers. We
wish him the best.

Go M's.

Mariners Loss Two Games Friday and More

The Seattle Mariners lost both
the regular spring game and
breakout game with there
top prospects was both scores
were identical 8-7 to Cleveland.

The regular game was tied going
into the bottom of the 9th.
Cleveland scored on a wild throw
to win the game. The breakout
game the Mariners were down by
two into the top of the 9th. They
scored a run and had runners on
base with two outs however the
game ended with a fly ball to
left field.

In the regular game Emerson
Hancock started instead of
Logan. Gilbert. With the game
cancelled on Thursday this game
Hancock was moved to Friday
and Logan will go on Saturday.

Hancock pitched well going
four innings. He gave up six
hits and had no walks. Hancock
struck out one. The Mariners
scored first with five runs
where Jorge Polanco hit a
single driving in two runs.
Julio had a single as well driving
in two runs after Polanco scored
on fielding error.

Jessie Hahn a veteran pitcher
trying to make a comeback
hasn't pitched in the majors
since 2021 gave up a three
run homer. The Mariners don't
have many spots up for grabs
in the bullpen. Don't think Hahn
will make the team.

Gabe Speier pitching the sixth
inning gave up a two-run homer
to tie the game. He has pitched
for well for most of the spring.
Unless something happens
over the next ten games he
should be on the opening roster.

All the runs except the last were
home runs by Cleveland. The
Mariners had no home runs
however scoring seven runs
with one unearned was a bright
spot.

The Mariners are on the road
Saturday against the Giants.
This will be the game that
Logan will start. Luis Castillo
will start the other split squad
against the Padres as the home
team. Expect this game to have
more starting position players
than the away game.

Tai Peete the number 12th prospect
in the Mariners farm system had
the best game in the spring breakout
going 3 for 3 including a home run.
Peete was drafted as a shortstop
and since they have two shortstops
ahead of him including number one
Colt Emerson he will be playing
mostly the outfield this coming
season. Making the Mariners over
tge next couple years or so I see
him as a super utility player. Be
the number four outfielder along
with playing the infield when
needed.

The Mariners number one draft
choice last year Jurangelo Cijntje
pitched two innings. What is unusual
is he can pitch both left handed
and right.  The first hitter he faced
he threw left-handed however the
remaing hitters he threw right handed.
On the radio broadcast general
manager Justin Hollander said
he will be primarily a right handed
pitcher. If he throws left handed
between starts on the side line
he will start by throwing left
handed however will still be
seen throwing right. It will be
interesting to see how it goes
in his first full professional
season. He throws around 98
mikes per hour right handed
and can do about the same
left which is amazing.

In other local sports the Seahawks
signed free agent wide receiver
Cooper Kupp who had an outstanding
career with the LA Rams when
he was healthy. He will be added
as the number two receiver if
he can stay healthy. Fans are
excited adding him since he
played his college football career
at Eastern Washington and grew
up in Yakima.

Thr Seahawks are hoping to sign
a free agent offensive lineman
next week. We will let you know
whether it happens or not. Go Hawks.

On Sunday Gonzaga will find out
where they will play and what seed
in the NCAA men's basketball tournamen We will update yiu on
that too.

The Washington State Cougars
have an outside shot to make
the same tournament. If they
don't make it tge Cougars have
a shot at the NIT tournament.
Go Cougs!

Mariners Game Canceled

Thursday  night's  game against Arizona
was canceled  because of bad weather
conditions. Since it was a spring training
game it won't  be made up.

The Mariners  have afternoon game
against  the Cleveland  Guardians
with Logan Gilbert  on the mound.
Since Thursday's  game was  canceled
most likely  will  see a lot of the starters
begin the game.

There is a second after that called
the spring  breakout where the Mariners
top prospects  will go against the
Guardians  top prospects.  Guys
like top prospect olt Emerson will
play in the game.

Cole Young  and Harry Ford who
are still in Mariners camp will
play as well.

Great news came on Thursday  where
pitcher George Kirby  is able to start
pitching once again.  With less starts
in spring  games hè may still be
going on the injured list however
he should be able to start when it
ends. We will have more updates
on Kirby.

Mitch Garver  injured in his last game
should  be back in the lineup.  Mitch
thought it was broken arm however
the MRI came back as negative.  If
head to go on the injredlist Harry
Ford or Blake Hunt would have taken
his spot. Hopefully  Garver  who has
had a good spring won't  aggravate
it. Go M's.

The Big Ten Tournament

The Big Ten's tournament began
Wednesday. Though the Huskies
men's basketball team didn't make
it here are the results up to now.

Iowa who was the lowest seed
at 15 upset number 10 Ohio State
77-70 and USC #14 beat #11 Rutgers
97-89. #8 Oregon beat #9
Indiana 72-59. #5 Wisconsin beat
#13 Northwestern 70-63.

USC will play #6 Purdue on Thursday.
Iowa plays #7 Illinois Thursday
evening. Stay tuned for more results.

The Latest On Seahawks

Right now the Seahawks have
four free agents signed. Quarter
back Sam Darnold signed first.
Second was offensive lineman
Josh Jones who is  expected
to bring depth and not be a starter.

Now they have signed receiver
Marquez Valdes-Scantling to
a one year contract. A veteran
he is expected to help Jaxon
Smith-Njigba out with the
departure of Tyler Lockett and
DK Metcalf. Word is out they
could sign former LA Rams and
Eastern Washington receiver
Cooper Kupp as well. Marquez
is familiar with Seahawks offensive
coordinator as he played for
the Saints for part of the season.

Also signed edge rusher Demarcus
Lawrence formerly of the Dallas
Cowboys so familiar with the
Seahawks defensive coordinator
whose previous job was with the
Cowboys.

The Seahawks have ten unrestricted
free agents. Last Sunday linebacker
Ernest Jones IV and defensive tackle
Jarran Reed.

Cornerback Tre Brown who has played
well when healthy has signed with
San Francisco 49ers. Offensive
tackle Stone Forsythe signed with
the New York Giants. Guard Laken
Tomlinson signed with the Houston
Texans. So five free agents still
unsigned so could return to the
Seahawks or go elsewhere as well.

The Seahawks can still look at
adding two veteran offensive
lineman and or draft as well.
Go Hawks!

Mariners Lose Game In the 9th

During the regular season  it is important
not let the opposing team rally for a
victory that cost a game. 2

In spring training  games it will happen
more frequently. The Mariners were
leading 6-3 going into the top of  the
9th. I  am  sure  most fans figured  a
victory it wasn't  meant  to be.

The Kansas City  Royals  scored 4
runs in the top of the 9th. The Mariners
we're not able to tie or score two runs.

Bryan Woo  started and went three
innings giving up three hits, one unearned
run , no walks and struck out five.
I would call that a solid outing.

Victor  Robles  lead off the game with
a home run. In the second inning
Julio Rodriguez  hit a grand slam home
run to make it 5-0.

The Royals scored a single run in
the third, fifth and sixth inning.
The Mariners  final  run the bottom
of the  sixth. The Mariners used
seven relievers.

Seth Martinez  who the Mariners
claimed off waivers from the
Miami Marlins  on March 2.
Martinez  trying to make a
comeback with the Mariners.
This was his first outing of
the spring.

The Mariners  take on Arizona
on Thursday night.  Emerson
Hancock will start for them.
Go M's.

Bryan Woo Goes Wednesday

The Seattle Mariners take on
the Kansas City Royals Wednesday
afternoon in Peoria as the home
team. The Mariners had Tuesday
off.

Bryan Woo makes his third start
in the spring. He has given up
one hit in four innings and has
six strike outs. Only one walk
and no runs score.

Woo will try to go at least three
innings in this one. With George
Kirby on the shelf he will likely
be the 4th starter.  I would say
the best 4th starter.

Woo's goal is to stay healthy and
pitch at least six innings and go
further when he can. The Mariners
watched his pitch count the last
couple of seasons having not
pitched a lot in the minors. Now
though he should go as many
innings are expected.

Many teams have there starters
go five innings and sometimes
six. The number one starter they
hope to get at least six and
maybe seven. The Mariners
rotation is such that they hope
to get six and possibly seven.

With George Kirby out to start
the season getting five out of
5th starter Emerson Hancock
might be the best scenario.
This means the Mariners may
need to use four relievers or have
one go two innings. Since the
Mariners will have eight relievers
it does make it hard.

The Mariners do have at least three
days off in the first month of the
season so that will give the relievers
needed rest.

Gabe Speier who had a rough
2024 season seems to be back
at his old self. He and Tayler
Saucedo will be the main two
lefties in the bullpen. Brandyn
Garcia trying to make the third
lefty in the bullpen as a non-roster
invitee would be welcomed.
Garcia is a former starter so
he would be a good addition
especially since he could go
two innings and keep Speier
and Saucedo to pitch one inning
every two to three days.

The Mariners go with five righties
in the bullpen we would see Andre
Munoz and Gregory Santos as late
inning guys. Trent Thornton and Collin Snider the bridge to Munoz and Santos. Troy Taylor the fifth member
if he is healthy getting off to slow
start in spring training. If not him
then likely Eduard Bazardo.

Matt Brash expected back near
the end of April.

Looks like a good relieving core
at this time. Adding Brash will
certainly help Munoz and Santos.
Go M's.

Gonzaga Wins Tournament

Whether the number two seed beats
number one seed is an upset or not
Gonzaga beat St.Mary's Tuesday
night 58-51.

The  game was close all along though
Gonzaga had it in the last minute
remaining.

Neither team shot well on 3s. Gonzaga
made the only one in 31 total attempts
by both schools. Gonzaga shot more
field goals despite that St. Mary's
dominated in rebounding. The
trouble as they had 18 turnovers.

Gonzaga made a change starting
Braden Huff instead of coming
off the bench. Obviously worked
since he led with 18 points. In all
Gonzaga had four starters score
in double figures. St. Mary's had
only two that scored in double
figures.

Sunday will be selection for the
NCAA tournament starting next
week.  Winning means Gonzaga
will be in the tournament. St.
Mary's will likely be in however
have to see where they land.
Go Zags!

Zags Move On To WCC Tournament Final

Monday night Gonzaga beat the
San Francisco Dons 85-76 to advance
to the finals of the West Coast conference men's basketball
tournament.

The game was pretty tight until
the last five minutes of the game
where they did most of the scoring.
Really the only run of the game.
Basketball is funny since wins
come down to runs most of the
time. A run could five straight
points though usually more like
ten unanswered points.

The difference in this game was
Gonzaga made more than twice
as many foul shots. They made
25 compared to 9 for the Dons.
Both teams made the same
amount of field goals and the
Zags took one more shot. The
Dons made more 3s.

Graham Ike who is having an
excellent season had a double
double leading with 27 points
and 10 rebounds. Khalif Battle
had 21 points. They made most
of the Zags free throws. Ike
made 9 while Battle had 8.

Tuesday night the Zags take on
St. Mary's in the championship
final. St. Mary's won the regular
conference title so it won't be
easy. The winner will go to the
NCAA tournament however both
should be in. Where they are
seeded this game will make a
difference. Go Zags

Done a lot of sports news on the
Seahawks in the last week. Monday
was the day to begin signing
free agents and they signed Sam
Arnold right away. Let you know
here who they sign as well as lost.
They signed two of their own.
They have eight others however
be a surprise if they resign many
of them.

Unless it is a big name signing
we will mention them in a few days.
The Seahawks likely will try to
sign a few offensive lineman.

The signing of Arnold means the
Seahawks likely won't draft a
quarterback. The top of the draft
they will look at offensive linemen
however they are known to draft
the best player available no matter
the position. Go Hawks.

Mariners May Lose More Ways Than One

On Monday the Seattle lost to
the Milwaukee Brewers 7-5.
The trouble is the Mariners
may have lost catcher Mitch
Garver as well.

Mitch Garver who is having a
a good spring training hit a
home run in the first inning.
His second at bat in the third
inning he was hit in the hand.
Garver had to leave the game
and get x-rays done. Not sure
how bad it is. We will know
sooner then later whether
he misses any time.

Like last year he was expected to
be the Mariners opening day dh
and the backup catcher to Cal
Raleigh. It will be interesting
who will be the backup catcher
if he  misses any time. Harry Ford
who came in for Cal hit a double
driving in a run and scoring as well.
He currently hitting .571 in 14 at bats

All seven runs came off Casey
Lawrence who started the game
and Austin Kitchen who came in
for him. Both won't make the
opening day roster. At least I hope
not. Lol

Gregory Santos pitched an inning
right after Kitchen. He gave up
three hits however no walks or
runs. May seem later in the week.

Luke Raley who will play some
first base hit a double in the
first inning leading off. Jorge
Polanco playing third again
drove in Raley. Garver's home
run followed that.

Arozarena started along with
Ryan Bliss who had a hit.
It does look like Bliss has
a good chance to start.

The Mariners have Tuesday off.
The Mariners play Kansas City
on Wednesday. Bryan Woo is
scheduled to face the Royals.
Go M's.

Sam Arnold To Seahawks

Reports are that the Seahawks signing
Sam Arnold to a 3 year contract.
It looks to be a little lower than the
one that Geno Smith wanted.

The contract is supposed to be
$55 million guaranteed which
would be more than Geno's would
have signed for.  I don't know how
things work for the salary cap hit
however may be lower.

Sam Arnold had a better season
last year for the Vikings though
didn't do well in the playoffs. We
will have to see how he does with
the Seahawks.

Sam Arnold is 27 years old so when
his contract is over he will be still
younger than Geno. We don't know
however his best years could be
ahead of him.

Sam has been a starter five of his
seven years in the league so he has
the mentality and experience to be
the starting quarterback. Does this
mean he will be the quarterback
needs we will see. He has started
more than Geno.

The Seahawks must feel he can
work under Klint Kubiak's offense.
Now we have to see who the
Seahawks may pick up at wide
receiver. Under Kubiak they will
go with more of a two wide receiver
formation so replacing DK will be
more important.

The Seahawks will likely get a fullback
or use two running back setup or
have a tight end in the backfield.
It will be important to that the Seahawk
will be able to get more third down
and short instead of third and long
which they were in a lot of times
last season.

Being in third and short will help
Arnold and the passing game too.
Stay tuned for more updates on
the Seahawks. Go team.

Cougars Lose In Tournament Sunday Night

Tge Washington State Cougars lost
to San Francisco Dons Sunday night
86-75. Not a big surprise since
they were the sixth seed and the
Dons number three. We will see
if this is the end of the season
for the Cougars or not.

The game was close in the
first half being down by two.
The Cougars were led by Ethan
Price with 26 points. He has
played very well in the last
several games. He ended the
season so far with 13.1 scoring
average.

Sophomore LeJuan wants had
20 points however only one
rebound. He led the Cougars
with 6.7 per game.

 Nate Calmese had 16 points.
Just above his team leading
15.2 average. Incredible he
had 11 assists on the night.
He averaged 4.4 per game.

A major difference in the game
besides the Cougars not getting
much from the bench the Dons
did much better at the foul line.
Both teams shot the same amount
of times however the Dons made
seven more. Also tge Dons dominated
rebounding 49 to 25.

The Dons now will take on Gonzaga
in the semifinals Monday night.
This will be another tight match
though the Zags dominated in
their win last week.  Go Zags.

St. Mary's the number one seed
will take on number nine seed
Pepperdine in the other semifinal.
Pepperdine upset number 4
Santa Clara on Sunday 78-76.

What Will Seahawks Do

The Seahawks were busy unloading
players and freeing up a lot of salary
space.

They started by unloading veteran
offensive lineman George Fant and
three defensive players. The middle
of the week they released wide
receiver Tyler Lockett who is second
in every category including receptions
to Steve Largent.

The same day DK Metcalf announced
he wanted to be traded. So this meant
losing two starting receiver. On Sunday
Metcalf was traded to the Pittsburgh
Steelers for a second round pick.

Before Metcalf was traded on Friday
the Seahawks traded quarterback
Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders
for a third round pick. Geno told
the Seahawks he wanted more
money than they offered.

Now what will the Seahawks do to
replace two starting wide receivers
and quarterback?  As far as Metcalf
and Geno they could draft a receiver
and a quarterback. The likelihood
even if they do both might sign both
spots in free agency.b

The top quarterback in free agency
is Sam Arnold and he likely cost
more than Geno however he is younger
and had a good season last season.
The question do you want a qb who
had one good year to be your starter.

The Seahawks have Sam Howell
so is he capable of being the
starter for at least one season.
We will see how it goes.

We do know that the Seahawks
plan to run the ball more or at
least more successfully. They
do have capable runners however
do need to improve the offensive
line. Most likely they will sign or
draft a center and at least one
quard. It comes down to what
side of the line.

Stay tuned this could be an interesting
week as well. The Seahawks did resign
defensive tackle Jarran Reed and
linebacker Ernest Jones IV. Both
signed three year deals with one
guaranteed. Jones is expected to
be the key to the defense next season.

We will keep you up to date on the
Seahawks. Though the Seahawks
are pretty stable on defense right
now the offense doesn't seem
that way. Go Hawks.

Seahawks Trade Metcalf

It didn't take long for the Seahawks
to trade DK Metcalf. They traded him
to the Pittsburgh Steelers for a  2nd
round pick. It doesn't sound like
enough though he asked to be traded.

At this point the Seahawks offense
isn't as it was a few days ago. At
least not in the passing game.
JSN as he is called must feel
like a lone ranger. Will the Seahawks
go for a wide receiver in the 2nd
round or an offensive linrman.
They could trade up with the 2nd
and third round pick.

There isn't much out for a quarterback
in the first round. I am sure a first
round pick could be good or an offensive lineman. I am sure John
Scan and Mike Macdonald have an
idea. It seems they will need to
bring in a free agent at receiver
and offensive lineman no matter
who they draft. Quarterback is
a question too.

Stay tuned to see how the Seahawks
turn.

Mariners Win Huskies Lose

The Seattle Mariners beat  Colorado Rockies Sunday afternoon 8-1.

Most of the Mariners runs were
scored late by the young guys.

Luis Castillo started and went
three and a third innings. He gave
up a run in the 4th. He looked
good other than throwing more
pitches in his last outing. He is
looking good though. He gave
up one walk and struck out one.
The Mariners have another off
day on Tuesday so we may not
see him pitch again until next
Friday. He may have only have
two more starts in training camp.
Could start a third game if necessary.

JP Crawford started the scoring
hitting a solo home run. Jacob
Nottingham who came in for Cal
to catch hit a massive home
run scoring three. This was after
Miles Mastrobuoni singles in a run.

In the 8th inning  Nick Dunn gets
on and after an out top prospect
Colt Emerson hits a double. First
baseman Luis Suisbel hits a
three run homer of his own.
He is only 21 years old and hit
15 home runs at Modesto last
year.  We could see Luis in Everett
this year along with Emerson.

In men's basketball the Washington
Huskies lost at home against the
Oregon Ducks however the game
into overtime. The final was 80-73.

Great Osobor who was the Huskies
best player this year player his final
game in college. He scored 21 points.
He was 6 out 12 in field goals and
9 of 12 at the free this line.

The Huskies had there whole
starting lineup scoring in
double figures however only
six points off the bench. Much
of the problem has been lack
of scoring from the bench most
of the season.

Now we will have to see how
the Huskies lineup will look
next year. They do have several
international prospects however
we will have to see who they get
through the transfer portal. First
yearnhead coach Danny Sprinkle
knows they need to improve
at every position. Go Dawgs

Sunday night Washington State plays
San Francisco Dons. The winner will
face Gonzaga tomorrow  night in
the WCC tournament.
