Mariners Win with six games remaining in spring

The Seattle Mariners won Tuesday
afternoon over the Milwaukee Brewers
9-3.

Bryan Woo got off to a rough
start giving up three runs. After
that he settled down going five
innings. Cal Raleigh got the
Mariners going in the third
inning with a home run. The
Mariners scored four runs
and never looked back.

In the fifth inning Luke Raley
and Randy Arozarena each
hit a double to score to more
runs. In the sixth Victor Robles
hit a three-run homer to end
the scoring.

The Mariners play the Texas
Rangers on Wednesday with
Emerson Hancock starting.
The Mariners have six remaining
spring games including Wednesday.
Thursday is a day off. A split
squad on Friday. So leaves
single games Saturday, Sunday
and Monday. The last game will
be against the Padres.

The Mariners have next Tuesday
and Wednesday off before facing
the A's on Thursday March 27
in Seattle.

The Mariners still have 17 pitchers
still in camp on the 40 man roster.
The Mariners have 17 position
players on the same 40 man roster
as well. Right now they have
39 total out of 40 on the roster.
George Kirby likely will start the
season on the injured list and
the same goes to Matt Brash.
That means three nonroster
players could make the team
without taking anyone else off.
Mitch Haniger hasn't played
since March 4 so he could make
it four.

This means having 13 pitchers
and position players the Mariners
have to cut at least four pitchers
and four position players depending
whether any non-roster players make
it.

At this point Brandyn Garcia a lefty
is the best chance to make the
bullpen. Rowdy Tellez is the best
chance to be the only position
player not on the 40-man roster
to make the team. He is a left
handed hitting first baseman
and dh who has had a very good
spring so far. If Mitch Haniger is
on the injured list he likely will
make it and may anyway.

Tellez is currently hitting .297
in spring with three home runs
and four RBIs. He has only struck
out seven times. The Mariners
like guys who can play more
than one position which is downfall
however he could still make it.

The Mariners have nine position players plus four bench players.
Mitch Garver counts as dh along
with being the second catcher.
Donovan Solano will be the 2nd
first baseman who can play third
as well. Dylan Moore should be
the utility player so that leaves
two other spots. We will see how
that irons out.  Go M's
