Mariner Win Split Series

The Seattle Mariners beat  A's
2-1 to split the four game series.

The Mariners continue to struggle
at the plate. We hope this is
a lapse starting the season.

Usually it is the pitching that
gets off to a slow start however
not the Mariners.

Sunday the Mariners had only
five however the A's only had
four.

The A's got their one run first on
a homer. Julio Rodriguez hit
the game winner in the sixth
inning hitting a deep one with
Victor Robles on base. There
was no question it was a homer.

Bryan Woo went six innings
followed by Gregory Santos,
Trent Thornton and Andre
Munoz.  Woo gave up three
hits, two walks and struck
out five. Woo threw 76 pitches.
He might be able to go seven
innings longer in the season.

Santos threw ten and retired
all three batters. This was
his second game of the
season. Right now the Mariners
feel it is the inning to pitch him.

Both Thornton and Munoz each
threw 15 pitches. Thornton
walked one and struck out one
and no hits. Munoz gave up a
hit and struck out two. Thornton
and Munoz pitched in the opener.
Santos pitched in game two.

Dylan Moore started at third
in place of Polanco who had
in the previous two games.
Dylan is hitting .333 starting
two games while most of
the lineup is not hitting well.
Garver was dh while Cal was
at catcher. Polanco is hitting
.500 so far as good average
it is he and Moore.

Polanco we can see he still
is having trouble playing defense
at third. I wonder against lefties
Dylan should be at third and
Polanco at second until he
looks better or be at dh. All
depends on Garver. Against
right handers I would have
Moore go in defensively late
in the game depending where
the order is.

The Mariners will start a three
game series against the Detroit
Tigers beginning on Monday.
Emerson Hancock starts for
the Mariners while Jackson
Jobe starts for the Tigers.
Jobs has pitched twice in
relief so it could be the Tigers
bullpen in the series opener.
He is a right hander so should
see Polanco, Raley and Tellez
in the game.

On Tuesday Logan Gilbert will
start against Casey Mize who
hasn't started or pitched yet.
Last year he pitched 22 games
with an era of 4.49 and 2-6
record. He is another right
handed pitcher.

On Wednesday the Mariners will
face a lefty in Tarik Skubal. Last
year he had a great record at 18-4.
Against the Dodgers on the Tigers
opening game he went five innings
and giving up four runs. Three of
the four runs were in the fifth. Tarik
gave up a home run to Teoscar
Hernandez with two runners on base.
We will see what version of him
when he faces the Mariners. Go M's.
