season behind at home against the
A's.
Logan Gilbert will start the opening
game after Luis Castillo started ones
since he was acquired from the
Cincinnati Reds. There was talk
that the Mariners may trade him
during the offseason however nothing
came of it.
The starting rotation was set before
spring training began though Emerson
Hancock hss to be the fifth starter
to begin the season as George Kirby
has to begin on the injured list.
Cal Raleigh will be the starting catcher
as expected and Mitch Garver will
be the backup. Garver having a good
spring training may be the right handed
dh as well when not catching. Cal may
dh when he isn't behind the plate.
Luke Raley is expected to be the
starting first baseman though he
will be the fourth outfielder as well
against righties. Dominic Canzone
might be the fifth outfielder if he
makes the team as well. Like Raley
he is a left-handed bat. We may see
Dylan Moore out there as a right
handed bat. This will depend how
Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez
and Victor Robles are doing especially
being healthy.
Raley and Donavon Solano are
expected to platoon first base.
The Mariners have an additional
player in Rowdy Tellez that may
make the opening day roster.
Tellez makes the team he will
likely be the dh against righties
and on occasion be at first base
if Raley is in the outfield or needs
a day off. Solano is expected to
be starting at first base against
lefties.
Ryan Bliss is expected to be the
starting second baseman. Dylan
Moore may start against some
tough left handed pitching or
Bliss has started several games
in a row. The Mariners have other
options on who may make the team.
There is Miles Mastrobuoni who
could make the team. During camp
he has played second, third and
the outfield. Austin Shenton who
can play second, third and first.
Leo Rivas who played some second,
third and shortstop is another
option too.
JP Crawford will be starting at
shortstop. Dylan Moore and
Ryan Bliss can play there too.
Second base is Dylan's best
spot defensively so we could
see Bliss at short when JP
needs a day off.
Jorge Polanco is expected to
start at third base. Solano played
a lot during camp so he might
be the first choice to play third
behind Polanco though they
have other options.
The bullpen we start with Andre
Munoz as the closer. Trent Thornton
may be the first out of the bullpen or
Colin Snider. Depending on the
score we could see Eduardo Bazardo
in that role. Most likely if the starter
only last four or five innings.
Gregory Santos is supposed to be
the guy to setup Munoz. He might
close on occasion too. It is important
how healthy he stays. Troy Taylor was
expected in the mix for sixth and
seventh inning as well however he was
hurt before camp and hasn't pitched
any innings in spring training. The
likelihood he will start the season
on injured list. Casey Leguumina
could be the guy to take his spot
at the beginning of the season.
Casey was traded to the Mariners
from the Cincinnati Reds for cash.
That looks at the possibility of the
Mariners roster however a trade
could happen. Go M's.
