Mariners Shut Out Saturday Afternoon

The series between the Mariners
and the Royals is even now.

Final Royals 5 Mariners 0

The Mariners offense has struggled
in this series with the only runs scored
in the series opener on a  two run
homer by Steve Garver. In that one
Logan Gilbert into six innings getting
two outs and the Mariners didn't give
up a run.

Saturday's game the Royals scored
three runs in the first inning making
enough to win. George Kirby went
six innings giving up nine hits. What
is common though he didn't give a
walk. He is one of the top pitchers
in the majors not giving up a lot of
walks. He surrendered all five runs
however only three earned. Kirby is
now 5-4 on the season. The Royals
we're aggressive on the bases too.
They have been struggling scoring
runs this season so they decided to
change things up.  Kirby only had
three strike outs in the game. Love
for him in that regard.

The Mariners have struggled against
left handed pitching however in this
one they faced a right hander. Stephen
Kolek went a complete game giving up
four hits to the Mariners. He walked
only one however had only two strike
outs. He started out in May where his
first two starts he gave up 8 runs
but in the last two games including
this one shutouts in both although
in last start he went six and one-third
innigs.

Luke Raley had three of the four hits
while Cole Young had the fourth hit.
Everyone else was shut out.

Bryan Woo will start Sunday for the
Mariners and face another right hander
Seth Lugo.  He has a 1-4 record with
bad luck with 3.68 earned run average.
Lugo has only given up two home runs
in his ten starts. The Mariners a home run
hitting team may have to turn that around
if they expect to win. Go M's.
