before going on the road to San Francisco
taking on the Giants for two games. Now
they have lost two in a row. The series is
over now the Mariners have Thursday off
before facing the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
Nick Margevicius who had pitched well for
the Mariners after taking over for Kendall
Graveman when he was injured and now is
in the Mariner bullpen had his worst outing
of the season.
In the third inning Margevicius surrendered
a three-run homer to Mike Yastrzemski follow
by a run in the fourth and three more in the fifth.
Walker Lockett making his second appearance
for the Mariners gave up three runs in an inning
and a third on six hits. So the Mariners had a
hard hill to climb which they didn't make losing
to the Giants 10-1. The Mariners only run came
in the eighth inning after a double by Dylan Moore
who was brought home on an rbi by Kyle Seager.
Right now it is hard to know whether Nick Margevicius
will be in the Mariners rotation next season. Marco
Gonzales along with Yusei Kikuchi, Justus Sheffield
and Justin Dunn will make up four of the spots.
The Mariners have a full season next year they will
probably be back to five starters. Nick Margevicius
and Ljay Newsome will compete for the fifth spot
in spring training along with Logan Gilbert. We
would have to be sure to say Gilbert would have to
be the favorite. Nick Margevicius and Newsome
may be in the bullpen next season making spot
starts on occasion.
Anthony Misiewicz and Yohan Ramirez are the
only relievers who have spent the whole shortened
season in the Mariners bullpen. Speaking of the
bullpen the Mariners added another reliever on
Wednesday Jimmy Yacabonis who was in extended
training camp to the squad. He pitched the final
inning of Wednesday's game surrendering no runs
or hits.
Yacabonis the Mariners acquired from no other than
the San Diego Padres on August 19 for cash. Since
the bullpen needed additional help he was brought
up while reliever Brady Lail was sent to extended
training camp. He is actually on the taxi squad just
in case the Mariners do need to add another pitcher
while in Arizona.
Next year we will see more changes to the bullpen.
Would not be surprised if most of the relievers on
the team now will not be on next year's squad.
Yusei Kikuchi is scheduled to start Friday's game
against the Diamondbacks followed by Justus
Sheffield and Justin Dunn. Monday Marco Gonzales
is scheduled to start the first game of the double-
against the Oakland A's. Not sure who will start
game two as of yet. It may depend on how the bullpen
is used so won't be surprised someone come up from
extended training camp to start. Go M's.
