Seattle Mariners Eliminated

The Mariners were eliminated from the
playoffs Thursday on their day off before
playing the Oakland A's on Friday.

The odds were against it, however,
sweeping the A's sounded good to
think about. The Toronto Blue Jays
beat the New York Yankees 4-1
to clinch the last wild card in the
American League, and the Houston
Astros beat the Texas Rangers to
take second place in the AL West
division.

Oh well, now we can enjoy the four
game series against the A's without
pressure. I am sure most of us didn't
think they would make the playoffs
anyway.

Going into this series the Mariners
have a record of 25-31. They are
in fourth place a half game behind
the Los Angeles Angels who finish
the season against the Dodgers on
the road.

The Angels have been hot lately
winning six of their last seven games.
The Mariners still have something to
play for besides victories is placing
third in the division.

I am sure there are those who might
want the Mariners to lose all four
games so they can have a better
draft pick next year. Only the
Baltimore Orioles and the Kansas
City Royals can do that both a
game behind the Mariners.

Yusei Kikuchi will start Friday
night's game against the Oakland.
Kikuchi has had another disappointing
season though he has had some bright
spots. We hope to see better things
out of him next season. Go M's.
