Seattle Mariners Lose Final Game

I am sure the Seattle Mariners were hoping
they would win the final game of the season
against the Oakland but it wasn't meant to be.
losing 6-2.

Marco Gonzales started the game going five
innings giving up two runs on six hits while
walking one and striking out five. The game
was tied 2-2 when Marco left the game so he
didn't record the loss but he wasn't able to get
his eighth win on the season either.

So the loss came down to the bullpen once again.
This has been the problem for much of the season
for the Mariners. They are hoping next year to
compete the bullpen will be better.

Yoshihisa Hirano was the third pitcher used coming
in the seventh inning. He gave up three runs including
a home run to former Washington Husky third baseman
Jake Lamb. Hirano had pitched well until last week
but not so good recently. He will be a free agent
so whether he will be back is questionable.

Next season the Mariners may look to using a younger
core of relievers out of the bullpen. Jerry Dipoto could
go out and sign some free agent relievers or acquire
through a trade we will see. With Jerry the off-season
is always interesting.

So the Mariners end up with a record of 27-33. The
Mariners finished third place a game ahead of the LA
Angels who were swept over the weekend by the LA
Dodgers. They fired their general manager so a lot of
changes could happen with the Angels.

Through out the off-season we will look at what the
Mariners can and will do before training to improve
the team. It certainly looked like a better club then
last year. We hope the improvements next year will
put the team into the playoffs. Go M's.
