for the playoffs though the odds are against
it. On Monday night in Seattle though they
beat the Astros 6-1 so they trail the Astros
by three games with six remaining on the
season.
Looking at the score you wouldn't know it
was a pitching duel for the first six innings.
Neither team had scored a run. In fact, the
Mariners hadn't gotten a hit off Astros starter
Lance McCullers Jr.
In the seventh inning it all changed. The
Mariners scored four runs off of Lance
McCullers in the seventh inning. The
big blow was a three-run homer by
Evan White his seventh of the season.
The Mariners went on to score two
more runs in the eighth inning. The
Astros scored their single run in the
top of the ninth inning off reliever
Joey Gerber with two outs.
Gerber hadn't given up a run in his
previous ten appearances. Carlos
Correa hit a double followed by Josh
Reddick single. Catcher Martin
Maldonado hit the first pitch for fly
ball out to right field to end the game.
Marco Gonzales started the game, he
went eight innings giving up no runs
on seven hits. He walked one batter
while striking out six. It was his first
victory against the Astros.
