Baseball Wrapping Up

This is Sunday September 27 the last day of
the regular baseball season. Again the Mariners
will miss the playoffs. I am sure most of us are
not surprised. It is nice we had a season though
abbreviated.

The Mariners made it ago in having a good
season. Of course, once again didn't make
the playoffs but they did play some exciting
ball.

I guess the question is what the team will look
like in 2021. Also, will they have a full season?
It may depend what happens with the virus I
guess.

The virus sticks around might not have fans
again in the stand though the season should
be a full schedule unless Covid-19 gets bad
again. We don't have the answers right now.

Now we can see the Oakland A's in the playoffs
as expected. See Houston Astros get knocked
out in first round. Unlike the Mariners they
didn't do well closing out the season. I am
sure most fans won't mind the Astros being
taken care of in the first round.

What will Jerry Dipoto do during the off-season.
Last year he was quiet for the most part. I don't
see many changes happening in the off-season
except in the bullpen.

The starting rotation seems intact unless Dipoto
signs Taijuan Walker to a free agent contract.
The Toronto Blue Jays or another team may
have something to say about it. The Mariners
could sign another starting pitcher as a free
agent as well. It may depend how close Dipoto
feels the team is to making the playoffs next
year. Have to see how many good free agent
pitchers are out there too We have some time
to discuss it and we will.

The bullpen is where I think changes need to
happen. Dipoto brought in some as a tryout.
One or two or maybe three will get a shot
next spring. I see any youngsters ready to
make the jump will be given the chance and
sign a pitcher or two or three as free agents
as well. Again time to discuss it.

The Austin Nola trade to the Padres gave us
answer at catcher and the infield primarily.
Luis Torrens will split time at catcher with
the return of Tom Murphy. Ty France will
play some infield well as dh. Dylan Moore
should be the regular second base though
may play elsewhere at times. The question
will Shed Long be on the ball club.

The outfield is a question mark. We do
know Kyle Lewis will be out there but
everything else is up in the air. We hope
Mitch Haniger is healthy to spend time
in right field. This is the case then will
left field be a position among several
players. We will see what Dipoto figures
out there too.

Enjoy the playoffs. Root for your second
favorite team. I will be watching the
Seahawks, some Husky football and
basketball. Gonzaga is expected once
again to be among the elite in men's
college basketball. You will hear it all
hear for sure. Have a wonderful fall
and winter. Many blessings to you.
