Mariners Beat Rangers

Friday evening the Seattle Mariners
beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 in the
opening game of the series. The
Mariners are now 41-31 ten games
above five hundred. Much of their
record has to do with winning the
first game of a series.

The scoring took place early on
in the game. Often starting pitchers
struggle early on in the game and
this happened to both pitchers.

Nathaniel Lowe hit a double that
scored Marcus Semien who led
off with a single. Wyatt Langford
up next singles to Julio Rodriguez
scoring Lowe. I am sure at the time
no one figured that would be the
only runs the Rsngers would score
on the night.

In the bottom of the first the Mariners
scored twice to even the score. Julio
Rodriquez who gotten on base by a
walk was brought home on a home run
by Mitch Garver to tie at 2-2.

In the third inning the Mariners scored
the final run of the game. Julio grounded
out forcing Mitch Haniger at second
and JP Crawford scored.  That was
the ball game in simple terms.

The Rangers had five hits while the
Mariners had eight on the evening.
Julio didn't have a hit however his
groundout allowed the Mariners.
Mitch Haniger had two hits including
tgevone setup the winning run. Victor
Robles the Mariners recently acquired
from the Nationals had two as well
although the Mariners were unable
to score on them.

Luis Castillo went six innings giving
up the two runs and four hits total.
He only walked one while striking
out seven.  Mike Baumann came
in the seventh striking out one.
Baumann who has done well in
this role threw on seven pitches
so we could see him again on
Saturday or certainly on Sunday.

Andre Munoz was available pitching
the eighth inning. Munoz walked
one while striking out three. He
threw 19 pitches so have to see
how he feels the rest of series.
Ryne Stanek pitched the 9th record
his sixth save of the season. A
good sign as he threw eleven pitches
with ten strikes. Depending the
opposing teams batting order Stanek
is taking well closing games. Most
likely we will see Munoz pitching
to the middle of the order. A role that
fits him well. Besides closing Munoz
hss been comfortable coming in the
eighth inning. A role he did when
Paul Sewald was the closer.

George Kirby starts for Mariners
starts late afternoon as the game
is on Fox TV.  Nathan Eovaldi starts
for the Rangers. We could see another
pitching match once again. The
Mariners hope that Kirby will go
at least six innings. With his control
seven innings could happen too.
In 14 starts Kirby has only seven
walks while striking out 78 batters
in just over 80 innings. In his last
outing at Kansas City Kirby gave up
only five hits and didn't walk a batter.

Though the news isn't official Bryan
Woo is expected to start on Tuesday
at Cleveland. Most likely we will see
Bryce Miller on Wednesday. Logan
Gilbert starts on Sunday. We will
see if any moves are made before
going to Cleveland.
