Seahawks Last OTA

This is the last week going on
in OTA's for the off season. The
players  have a break  for a
month before training camp
begins.

For some the OTA will be important
to be invited back to camp. The
training camp  roster is 90. The
opening day roster is 52 players
and their is practice squad as
well.

The practice  squad  is around
18 players so means 20 players
won't be back at the end of camp.
They could return at some point
to be added to the practice squad
or injuries happen. When injuries
happen the practice squad players
have the best chance of making it.

Even being one of the players cut
from the 90 man roster  often other
teams may need their service or be
added  to  their practice  squad.
When you need to add a player during
the season you can take from another
practice  squad or a free agent.

Teams will add players and delete
others throughout off-season too.
Usually  announced in the media.
I  don't  take the announcement
very  serious or pay attention since
the odds of the player making the
roster is not great. I may glance
especially  if  it is a player  that
played college  ball locally or they
played for the Seahawks before.

There is talk that the NFL regular
season may go to 18 games begin
in 2024. If so the pre-season games
will go to two games. This means
rookies and those added to 90 man
roster will have give quicker impressions.

There is talk as well they may go away
with OTA's during the off-season which
means training  camp  will be more
vital. This has been talked by the players
association.  This makes sense allowing
veterans  having a better chance retaining
their jobs.

You have to figure NFL  career average is
three years so extending  careers makes
sense. Rookies who are drafted sign four
year contracts though some obviously
don't  last that long.

They have changed the rules on kickoffs
for this season.  The kickoffs will still be
kicked from the same spot the 35 yard
line. The placement  of the players will
be placed different. You can't  have any
amount of players on one side and where
they starting off is different to. There won't
be as far a distance to go. Also they are
going to pentalize  kicks going into the
end zone  since 80 percent  have gone
through. Also they are changing  the
pentalize if the ball goes out of bounds
inside the 20 yard line. They are expecting
more receivers and tight ends to be in
on kickoffs. We could see DK Metcalf in
on kickoffs. This is to help less injuries
tohappen as well.  It will  be interesting
to see what happens.  Go Hawks!
