afternoon 5-3 to the Twins. It was
the first series loss in Seattle since
being being by the Cubs back in May.
This game looked like replay recently
except they had nine huts on the day.
The trouble is again they could not
bring runners in when opportunity
arised.
Mitch Garver who was catching while
Cal Raleigh was at dh was hit in the
right wrist in the second. Garver had
to leave the game and Cal had to take
over. One question who would have
been.the third catcher. There was
speculation had Garver been dh he
likely would have stayed in the game.
The trouble was him able to throw.
Xrays were taken and came up
negative. He should be able to play
though have to see if he can catch.
Dies this mean the Mariners mave
have to add another catcher to the
roster and will that be Zavala.
The Mariners only have Garver and
Raleigh as the only catchers on the
40-man roster as well as the 26-man
so they would have to add Zavala
or anyone else to the 40-man roster.
Zavala so far has only played three
games at Tacoma with a .222 average
so can't go by that. Nine if the other
catchers at Tacoma have very good
marks so unless they acquire somewhere
else Zavala is the best choice.
Mariners number two prospect catcher
Harry Ford is doing OK hitting .254 at
double A Arkansas. The question
is he be ready to play any amount of
time in the majors right now or this
season. Have to get that idea from
the scouts, Jerry Dipoto and general
manager Justin Hollander for the
answer. Even rqeady would it slow
down his progress.
Luis Castillo who started Sunday
went only five innings giving up
three runs. With Garver out of the
game Luis had to bat in the 4th
inning. He ended up striking out.
After that the Mariners used three
pinch hitters without success.
When Castillo left the Mariners were
behind 3-0. It give me much of an
idea they would. They did score
two runs in the bottom of the fifth
making 3-2 and interesting. Julio
reached on a fielder's choice with
Dylan Moore scoring. Luke Raley
had a single to score Josh Rojas.
The Mariners actually tied the game
in the 7th on a single to right scoring
Raley. This certainly gave Mariners
fans hope however in the top of
the 8th Ryne Stanek who has had his
ups and downs gave up a two-run
and there went the win.
Thus was a gsme the Mariners may
have won or not. Game one the
Mariners were lucky to win.do.they
could have been swept at home too.
Now they have Monday off with the
Baltimore Orioles coming to town
for three. The Oroles are at the top
of the American East slightly ahead
of the Yankees. They are 4-6 in their
last ten games. The Mariners will have
to do better than their last 12 games
to beat them.
The Astros are playing well now
so the Mariners have step up to
keep the lead in the division.
This means either the offense
gets better on its own or they
acquire a bat real soon.
Go team.
