to struggle. Wednesday night Oakland's
starter Joey Estes was pitching a perfect
game into the seventh inning. Oh by the
way this was his 5th start of the season
for Oakland.
Estes began the season in teiple-A. He
spent some of April on the injured list.
He made his first start May 11 which was
against the Mariners where he went five
innings giving up just two hits and one run on a homer.
In the seventh inning Estes gave up a double to JP Crawford for the first hit
of the game. Julio walked with one
out then Ty France was hit by a pitch
with two outs. Estes had been lifted
after one out. Mitch Garver pinch hit
for Luke Raley with a lefty on the mound.
Also the bases loaded however Garver
grounded out.
Oakland was leading 2-0 at the time
and only one was earned. Oakland
hit a homer in the third inning and in
the fifth the defense caused the second
run. Daz Cameron son of former Mariner
Mike Cameron hit a single then Logan
Gilbert threw wild trying to pick Daz
off and he went on to the third. Cal
Raleigh had a passed ball allowing
Daz to score.
Logan Gilbert went seven innings giving
up five hits, the two runs though only
the homer was earned. The Mariners
had opportunity again in the 8th inning
with Mitch Haniger and Dominic Canzone
each had a single with no outs however
the Mariners couldn't have another hit
to score.
In the 9th inning Julio Rodriguez had
his fifth home run of the season making
it 2-1. Three outs later the game for
Oakland.
Despite the fact they had a perfect
game thrown at them into the 7th
inning the Mariners still could have
won the game with a hit and better
defense.
The Mariners and Oakland play
Thursday afternoon. Bryan Woo
starts giving the Mariners a good
chance. Now we have to see if
the offense can come alive. Go M's.
