best the Utah Utes at home 75-65.
The game was tight in the first half.
Both teams had five point leads with
runs by each. The Utes led by a point
at half time.
The Huskies controlled the second
half although no lead was in double
figures. Down the stretch rebounds
and defense were the keys. The Huskies
shooting from the foul line was another
key as they missed only two and made
nine more than the Utes.
All five starters played over 30 minutes
of the game. The Huskies had three
starters who scored at least 20 points
which it has been a long time since
that last happened. Zoom Diallo led
with 24 points followed by Desmond
Claude with 23. Forward Hannes
Steinbach had 20 points and led with
11 rebounds. Center Franck Kepnang
played great defense and had 10
rebounds. That doesn't happen
often when two Huskies have double
digits in rebounds.
This was the last game the Huskies
played in non-league games.
The Huskies begin the Big Ten schedule
on Sunday taking on the Hoosiers in
Indiana followed by Purdue a week
from Wednesday. This will be a tough
Big Ten schedule so it will be necessary
the Huskies win most of their home
games as they did where they were
undefeated during the non-league
schedule.
The Huskies are at 9-4. Every team
in the Big Ten had a winning record
during the non-league schedule so
every game will be a battle. The
Huskies have 1-1 record in Big Ten
right now as they have 18 games
remaining. To make the NCAA
tournament the Huskies will need
to win at least half of those games
which isn't an easy task.
Indiana is 10-3 and is undefeated
at home while Purdue is 12-1 and
the one loss is at home. The Huskies
first three games at home in Big
Ten will be against Ohio State, Michigan
and Michigan State. The second
road trip won't be easy either.
Go Dawgs!
