Will the Mariners Make Moves Before Thursday

There is two more days until the
New year so will make any substantial
moves before or wait until January.

Getting Brendan Donovan from the
St. Louis Cardinals has been talked
about. My opinion giving up one
of the starters up shouldn't happen.
He is a solid player however he didn't
have a solid season in 2025. If he
bounced back and had a year around
2024 maybe.

If Donovan is considered to be a
starter at second base should the
Mariners include sending Cole Young
to the Cardinals or wait for him to
develop further. Katel Marte may cost
Mariners even more however the
question is how he will be in the
club house.

Cal Raleigh has a lot influence with
the front office especially the year
he just had. Jorge Polanco signing
with the New York Mets it is important
to pick up another midinfielder.
Colt Emerson maybe on the team
in 2026 however the Mariners really
need a good bench player at least.
They have Rivas and Bliss however
they need at least another guy.

Outside of the top seven prospects
the Mariners have a good nucleus
if prospects they could trade. How
many other teams would be interested
in is the question. I wouldn't mind
them trading at least three or four
prospects outside the top seven.
The rest of the guys are more for
depth and see how they continue
develop.

The Mariners had several relievers
at double A Arkansas last year
however how close are they to
the majors. The Mariners may
have one spot left in the bullpen.
They have a lot of candidates
on their 40 man roster too. Could
see them signing another reliever
to a minor league contract or a
major league contract may cost
releasing someone.

I expect Emerson Hancock to be
in the bullpen unless he is one
involved in a trade. He could be
the long reliever and start if
necessary. Logan Evans would be
another candidate. The Mariners
tried him in the bullpen for a few
times in the minors in 2024 however
he didn't stick. He could be the 5th
starter if the Mariners did trade
one of the starters.

It will be interesting to see what
happens since the Mariners aren't
done.

At this point they are hoping that
Victor Robles and Luke Raley
bounce back. Raley or Canzone
could be a partial piece in a trade
too.
