WSU Cougars Opened West Coast Conference

The Washington State Cougars beat
the Portland Pilots in their season opener
Sunday afternoon  67-62.

The Cougars had a good lead heading
into the last two minutes of the game
being up 61-49 when the Pilots went
on a good run  scoring seven straight
points.  The Pilots ended up at 65-62
after making a three point shot with
nine seconds remaining to make it
interesting. The closest since the
beginning of the game. The Cougars
made a two point field goal with five
seconds to seal the game.

Neither team shot well from the field
though the Cougars did a little better
and the Pilots took more shots. The
difference was the Cougars made
five more free throws though neither
shot well there either. Both teams will
have to do better to have a successful
WCC record.

The Cougars  went with a seven man
rotation most of the way. Jerone Morton
who made the last shot for the Cougars
played 11 minutes and the only two
points of the game.

The Cougars had only three players in
double digit scoring. Rihards Vavers
had 13 points while Ace Glass and
Tomas Valur Prastarson each had 11.

The Cougars play Seattle University
at Climate Pledge Arena on Tuesday
night. Go Cougs.

Currently Gonzaga is playing Pepperdine
at the moment.
