a move to improve their offense.
Not a big surprise as far as a trading
partner. Whether this is the only trade
we will find out the next few days.
The Mariners acquired outfielder Randy
Arozarena from the Tampa Rays. It
always seems seems every year the
two teams make a trade. The Rays
received two minor leaguers in the
trade. We will see how this trade
works over some time.
Both players are in the low minors.
Outfielder Aiden Smith and right
hander pitcher Brody Hopkins. Also
added is a player to be named later.
Arozarena was the American League
rookie of the year in 2001 so he has
some years ahead. He got off to a
slow start in 2024 like many of his
new teammates however has done
better recently.
The Mariners will have Arozarena for
control over the next two years. He
is hitting .290 since June 1. A right handed
bat that will likely play in left field. Hopefully he is better then what they have
had there in years.
His former teammate in Tampa Luke Raley
will see time in right field and first base
mostly though could give him a rest on
occasion in left. Arozarena will likely plant
himself behind Julio Rodriguez in the
lineup which we hope is a good thing.
What this means for Dominic Canzone
and others in the outfield we will see.
Wouldn't be surprised if another trade
comes about. The Mariners could use
another best which might be an infielder
at second or third base. Picking up a
reliever or two would be good as well.
Go M's.
