platoon at second base with
Dylan Moore in the mix.
I am not a big fan of Dylan being
in the mix depending on how
things are going along with who
the other guy at second.
The three candidates right now
outside of Dylan are Ryan Bliss,
Leo Rivas and Cole Young. If Bliss
gets the nod than he is a right handed
hitter like Dylan is. In this case I
would play Dylan every third or
fourth game at second. He would
be more value coming off the
bench. When he is starting Bliss
can do some of the same things
like coming to pinch running off
the bench. It comes down whether
one is struggling hitting.
Rivas is a switch hitter so whether
he starts against a lefty is how well
he is doing in that department or the
last time Dylan has started. It would
be nice to keep both of them fresh.
Cole Young makes the team out
of camp or comes along later
since hr is a left handed bat he
would start against righties. He
could start against some lefties
to see how he does. It would come
down to whether the lefty is at
the top of the rotation or lower
down. I would like to see Cole
to face lefties down in the order
at the beginning of when he is on
the team.
We will see Dylan on occasion when
JP Crawford needs a day off at
shortstop and possibly at third base.
The Mariners do have a couple
others to play third base if Polanco
has a day off. We could see him
in the outfield on occasion too.
This could come down to how
often Haniger plays in the field
and whether Raley plays out there
too.
Dylan's value is in his versatility
however how he is hitting at the
time will answer it. Comes down
to whether Garver, Haniger and
Polanco are hitting or not. Dylan
not hitting well is OK if few others
are doing well at the plate. The
Mariners haven't had a lot of clutch
hitters outside of Cal Raleigh so
Dylan hss value there too.
We hope that whoever is the second
baseman will play a good amount of
time out there. Starting at least 100
games would be nice. Go M's.
